have you set a limit on the number of bags you will own?

I have 34 bags. Twelve of them are strictly spring/summer, twelve are solidly fall/ winter. Of the remaining ten, seven can be worn year round while the remaining three are definitely holiday Christmas/New Year's bags. It has taken me many painstaking years to amass and refine my collection, and I am utterly without shame. :p

And without shame you should be! We are channeling the same strategy! May I ask what your year round bags/colors are? This is where I am trying to fine tune.

interesting thread, OP! I haven't set a number/limit, but I usually get a "gut feeling" when I have too many, and then I want to purge my collection - sell off what I don't adore and minimize things. Helps clear my head mentally, too. Just sold three and am trying to sell two more so that I can buy a beautiful everyday Chanel bag.

I just realized this is ALOT and I'm not using it. The money thing was a part of it; not "OMG I have spent so much and I can't afford it.". Rather, it was "Oh My! I have pissed a lot of money away and I don't even love this stuff." It was easy to rehome the first 5-6 bags and then it got a bit tricky because I felt like I "should" keep it (HG to others, expensive, was a gift, etc.).

And you know what else triggered a second round? I wore a crap outfit to work.

Sure it was professional and clean and tailored, but the fabric was icky, the fit just OK, and the overall look uninspired. And I decided why would I do that too myself? Why not always wear something you feel beautiful in?

And so I tossed a lot of clothes and have since decided to buy less and ONLY buy things I feel fabulous in. So I just have less. Less clothes, less shoes, less bags. But I feel like a million bucks.

Great post!

The bolded part is where I would like to be...

It has taken me awhile to figure out which handbags I really like and which ones work best with my very casual lifestyle. I also need a few for special occasions or business casual attire as needed.

I've been revamping my wardrobe over a number of years, trying to re-work my style and am finally starting to feel like I have a handle on what I want/like to wear now that I am a "woman of a certain age"...included in that is handbags and accessories.

I'd MUCH prefer to have fewer clothes, handbags and pieces of jewelry and have all things that I love and feel fabulous wearing than have a closet full of stuff I don't like that doesn't fit and none of it goes together very well. That is a recipe for frustration.

I am still working on paring down my things.

Very good thread. Thank you!

One for each year I plan to be alive. :D

Seriously, I have niches in my wardrobe for bags. If the niche (color/size/usage) is filled, I don't get another bag for it. I rotate my bags and they tend to stay nice. I plan to use them for life.

Most of my bags are small and I see them more as a wardrobe accessory. I try to limit my larger bags.

I don't have a specific number in mind but I know I would def love to pare down. I had a pretty good variety of designer and styles prior to coach legacy coming out and now I have way too many bag of similar styles, albeit some were purchased as back up bags and workhorses so I don't feel too bad, knowing that they will get used a lot. That said, workhorses aside, I think 10 -15 would be a nice number to have in rotation.

Can't blame you on the Coach Legacy bags, I only have one Candace & it's LOVE! I cannot wait until spring & summer just to use it, haha...

I would say a dozen bags would be my ideal number. I have way more than that (Luxury, contemporary & non) and it feels like too much, I would love to simplify for sure.

Great thread op!

Omg, love this!!!!:smile1:...I'll have to try this mindset for the new year :smile1:

I dont count bags but think of situations and bag usefulness - similar to shoes. Then i add some colors/ sizes and a couple of special pieces and throw around bags. I have my mind set on only one bag in 2014:)
