IDk if this fall under jealousy but after a close friend of mine found out I had bags she claimed to have bought a qb from a local reseller, but it is very obviously a fake. She had previously made comments about how she doesn't see anything wrong with fakes and no one can tell the difference btw. She rejected my advice for her to get the bag authenticated before and/or after the purchase. I suppose it is possible she was scammed by a reseller, but more than likely I believe the bag was purchased from some shady online replica maker and I believe she knows it is fake and is lying. The reason I think this is partly bc the bag quality is quite jarringly bad and she sent me photos of it in what if you look very closely appears to be a sweatshop background. I wouldn't care about her shopping habits if it wasn't for the long, elaborate stories and details of the lie which make me begin to question her character. It would be one thing to get the bag and be hush hush, but another to come up with entire stories... :confused1:

Friends or not, people create their own storyline, including mine is better than yours.
Fakes are fakes & do believe than many buyers are fully aware that they are buying a fake ,
have no conscious about doing so & could careless about whether it came from a sweatshop or not &
they can create whatever scenario they like, but a fake is a fake is a fake at the end of the day
no matter what kind of spin one chooses to say
Here's to the joy of owning & carrying an authentic Hermes bag...

It’s such a strange phenomenon. I was watching Simone Biles get flamed over her Hermes bag from Paris and then two weeks later people were congratulating her on her new Mercedes G Wagon. I was thinking to myself, “do you have any idea how many Hermes bags that is?!”
It is a strange phenomenon as to why some get raked over the coals & others not a nod.
Do people think that Simone Biles doesn't fit the "profile" of having an Hermes bag?
Whatever one thinks the profile is?
The reaction is so perplexing as well as being judgmental

I have the impression this could be a perfect topic on it’s own… you got a fake bag… so what days my friend. Lol.
Absolutely impossible for me and I am known to cut ties if fakes are a habit. Wear Zara if you want heavy inspired. Wear cheap outfits o don’t care and wear some myself. But never a copy or a fake.

This was my concern - that it indicates something greater (dishonesty). Honestly, if she did not tell me about the bag and just wore it I would have minded my own business and just side eyed her. But to tell me elaborate stories with details that were all clearly lies, it is really disappointing. It makes you wonder what else is a lie.

Human nature at its worst! Simone Biles earned her Birkin-she is the ultimate athlete. It filled me with joy when I read she got a Birkin. I am looking forward to her collection growth and hopefully she will “show and tell” for all to admire. While the Birkin doesn’t compare to her many achievements, world records and accolades, I love this fun fact that such a focused athlete, also wanted something we mere mortals love. Cheers to her!

Frustrated failures always blame everyone but themselves for their own failings. If they're not raking a successful person over the coals, it's because they have ever heard of the person.

Right? I feel like if ANYONE ever could be said to have “earned” their birkin it’s Simone.

Don’t know whether this classifies as jealousy or entitlement. My wife grew up where every dollar counted. She was always into fashion with magazines and people watching in NYC. Her cousins were as well. They all went to Paris a couple decades ago and this was when Birkins were just put out on the shelf if H had one. My wife (gf at the time) grabbed it and put it down for a minute to call me to discuss the cost of it. As we were talking, another customer grabbed it and purchased it. Not meant to be but the cousins were putting her down saying “that’s crazy to spend that much on a bag” and other comments like that. Mind you they were all in Hermes and knew how expensive their items were.

Fast forward to a year ago when we all go out to dinner. There’s around 10 of us at a table and it was just a good get together. We are all having fun and it’s time for the check. Right then, one of the cousins says “Look at her new Kelly bag. He can obviously afford to up the check”

Let’s say we haven’t gone to dinner together again.

I just stumbled on this thread.

People are crazy! It’s the damn if you do, damn if you don’t.
I try not to tell anyone how I get my bags because I have various levels of friends (for simplicity on this post). I have friends that can, i have friends that cannot, I have friends that can but won’t, etc.

I have friends that judge with their eyes- so I don’t tell them where I got them if they ask and sometimes even down play it and tell them I’ve had it for a while. Which is really idiotic and frustrating, but not worth the hassle.

I also have a friend of my best friend- and every single time she sees me and I have an H bag, she asks if it’s fake and if I got it from X (fyi I don’t know X). Mind you, this friend of my best friend, drives a rolls Royce and lives near me, yet only purchased fake bags from X. Apparently the X person sells to these high net worth ladies that only buy fakes in my town (including the real housewives on tv/LOL). It’s nonetheless frustrating bc I would never ask someone, even when I know their stuff is fake, if it is fake. This woman is just jealous and petty, and annoying.

I think I may have mentioned it on another sub, but I also have an acquaintance that happens to have the same SA I have, and attempted to get a bag by using my name with SA (the horror).

I buy H houseware, loungewear, leather etc. I do it because I enjoy being surrounded by pretty things. Makes me happy. I also like home goods and thrift items. It’s all enjoyable to me if I love it.

What I have learned at my age, and continue to learn via experiences, is that humans can be unwarrantedly petty and jealous. That if you thrive, even some of your friends, will not be happy for you (including family in this as well) because ultimately it’s the “why can she and why can’t I” mentality. What they don’t bother to look at or reflect upon, is that I can by sheer education and work ethic, not by luck. I did not inherit it, I studied for it and I worked for it. And, there is nothing more frustrating than for someone to tell me “how lucky I am”. Duh, wasn’t luck, it was hard work.

I buy the things that I enjoy, for me. Which is why I enjoy tPF due to the anonymity and collegiality of H fans.

It's like when someone asks me how I got my job (which sometimes happens). They don't usually have much to say in return when I tell them how long the qualifications take to acquire or the level of experience needed. I often think about the impression I must be giving off - or maybe it's just who one knows in their line of business(?). Like you say, I think, they just assume everything is just luck (although sometimes that helps). As for the fake nonsense, it says more about their values than anything else, I take no notice, but I wouldn't get into business with someone that knowingly carries a fake H bag (total personal pref).

It really helps if someone genuinely enjoys many products across the depts. and be interested in the craft(ing) process, that's for sure.

When it’s jealousy from relatives, it’s even worse, cause c’mon these people are supposed to be in your corner and cheer you on and support you. Human nature is really weird 🤷‍♀️
