Have you ever given up on another brand?

Yes, I did the same thing with LV and like you, came to my senses and am in the process of selling some of them. I have 5 pieces , mostly monogram, and while I love them, I just cannot justify spending that much money on something you carry your stuff around in. I also get so nervous about the vachetta that they sit in my closet.

I have never given up on Coach either and never will. Coach bags are certainly not cheap but definitely more practical and attainable for me. And you cannot beat the quality!
I'm so glad I'm not alone with this feeling, thank you! I do love the whole history behind LV, the travel, luggage, inspired designs......etc.

However I've found that they're not really for me. I don't need to spend a fortune on my handbags to be happy with them and I'm so glad I found this out about myself.
Quality is more important to me than a brand. If I can find exceptional quality in an affordable brand I'm happy!

well being sat on a floor or chewed by dog neither would fly with me no matter the bag lol but i got stuck in an absolutely pouring rain yesterday to the point the roads were flooding! anyhoo i was confident my Classic Maddison could handle it and it did better than my sandal cover feet ...

I think we had the same rainstorm. It flooded in places that don't typically flood, and - I kid not - I saw geese swimming at the side of a major highway because the water on the shoulders was just that deep. We got 5+ inches in about 3 hours.

If someone's puppy tried to chew my bag it would be getting its first lesson in the stern "NO!" voice. I love dogs, but there's a line.

I appreciate the history of LV, and also Chanel, but unless that amount of money becomes inconsequential, I'm probably not going to invest in one of those bags. I like a few of the LV bags, mostly the more unusual ones like the velvet bags from about 10 years ago, and like a lot of the Chanel bags, but I find I'm drawn to Coach because they offer a number of designs I do like, they're good quality, and it won't be a tragedy if something happens to one. I like being able to have a wardrobe of bags to pick from to suit my mood or occasion. I couldn't pull that off with a premier designer unless I suddenly hit the jackpot. And even then I'd still carry Coach often because neither LV nor Chanel has made a Snoopy bag. :D

To add on to my earlier post, I do find myself buying less bags than I used to, and I feel inclined to spend more money on 1 bag that I have to have, that is absolutely amazing and the quality is phenomenal, than to buy just a lot of a less expensive brand, and I feel like since I/ve gone back to Coach in the last few years from only buying premier designers, I've bought so many, because they were less expensive and I thought it would be a great selection, that I don't really feel the need for them that I originally thought I would. It's not that I regret buying so many, and I wouldn't sell them, that's not really my thing (no offense at all to those that resell bags, I know a lot of you do) but I think i went a little overboard and even though I wanted them, there were quite a few I didn't need to have. Where I know if I am spending 1000$ plus I know that I will keep this bag for the rest of my life, like I have to be absolutely sure that I want this bag no matter what. I don't mind buying one bag a year and spending a couple thousand on a bag, that is a true statement piece that will last forever like a fendi peekaboo or an LV softlockit. I think at this point in my life I am focusing more on quality than quantity, and to be honest there hasn't been a coach bag in a while that I have to have.

Well I applaud those who know themselves well enough to know that they'll want to keep a bag for the rest of their lives.

I can struggle with that (as I know many can) so investing a ton of money on one bag can be a gamble for sure.

Honestly it's a trait I picked up from my mother, I have dior and coach bags from hers from the 70's, I also think it's also made me a little bit of a hoarder. Your'e right though investing that much on one bag can be a gamble so I would definitely have to be 100% sure. But for instance hypothetically I think something like a chanel flap bag never goes out of style, it's always relevant, so I think even with the ever increasingly large price tag, it's a bag I wouldn't get tired of or be scared to go out of style.

I'm too fickle to know that I'll love a bag for the rest of my life. :p

I already own a few classic bags that could easily go the distance but i like the variety hence my reasoning behind not jumping off into many super costly choices, i know myself it won't cease there and then i'll feel unhappy with the decision.

At the contemporary price point, it's less of a gamble if you may turn out to not like it or feel like you want more/something else. I know others point out resale and while i don't disagree i still believe there is an element of risk there, selling luxury goods it's a fickle beast and doesn't always turn out successful and i would be uncomfortable banking on that indefinitely to justify a higher bag value purchase.

I agree with you on there being a risk with buying pre-loved luxury goods. Most of mine are pre-loved and I was super lucky everything checked out to be authentic. I got one off Poshmark, one from a Facebook group and another from fashionphile.com. But it seems like the legit websites also sell at a higher price than an individual on Poshmark. There are a lot of fakes on Poshmark so I guess you get what you pay for.

And I agree that buying the contemporary brands at the lower prices is easier to stomach if you decide you do not like something.

I've actually given up on Coach for a short time. I moved on, bought much more expensive bags but I always find myself wishing I could just buy an awesome Coach bag every month or so instead of one or two LVs a year. I often think it's ridiculous that my everyday mommy bag is a $3k bag. I still love Coach but I haven't found a bag that really grabs me like they used to. I cruise through the store every now and then and just end up buying a bag charm or some jewelry.

I have owned a few Fendis, a Burberry and a Gucci. I got rid of all of them. I only sort of regret one of the Fendis. They were all relatively inexpensive as I bought them used, so I didn't have to deal with the guilt of spending too much. I can never bring myself to take the risk to spend a humungous amount of money on one purse. It just seems like it would create too much pressure to love it and carry it a lot. Even some of my more expensive Coaches make me feel like I'm not getting my money's worth.

There are designer purses I've toyed with buying, including a $4000 LV, a $4000 Dior, a $2000 Chanel, and a $2000 Versace. I've stayed in love with some of them for a long time but can't get myself to drop that much money on one bag. I think it is just my personality. I've always looked for the best deal for my money and I'd rather have a large assortment rather than a few very special items. I get bored if I carry a bag longer than a week at a time. Some of my older Coaches and my recent Henri Bendels are as nice as anything I could get from a premier brand.

We live in an area that just doesn't warrant carrying designer bags. We rarely go anywhere that requires dressing up. I have a panic attack if someone gets near one of my bags with a pen or something accidentally spills. It's one thing having that happen to a purse that cost me a few hundred. I can't imagine how I would deal with it if was a purse that cost thousands.

This basically sums up exactly how I feel.

:roflmfao:
I've certainly had moments when I could only concentrate on my purse. Like once when I had to brake hard, my purse went flying and landed on the floor. I was mortified!! I kept glancing down at my poor bag on the floor of my truck. Poor baby!! I pulled over to rescue her. Now I buckle my bags in...;)

Haha I buckle too! Too many horrified moments of fast braking and bags flying!

I do have to say that this makes me laugh! There will never be a time where I will feel the need to "buckle in" my handbag.....................NEVER!

It's a bag, not a child!

Please know I'm not making a judgement, just my own opinion. If I've spent that much on a handbag that I have to worry about it in a car then I think my priorities are out of whack.

I don't think it's all that crazy to want to keep your bag from sliding off the seat onto the muddy rubber truck mats, but maybe that's just me. :what:

Yes, I get that but what I do is put my bag in the back seat so I'm not obsessing about it. There is not a bag on earth that I will "strap in" with a seat belt.

I see nothing wrong with strapping anything in with a seat belt. I have even done so with various things I may be taking places. It has nothing to do with what the item may cost, but more about not having to worry if you have to slam your brakes because a deer jumps in front of you and you don't want stuff flying around the car.
