I have a panic attack if someone gets near one of my bags with a pen or something accidentally spills. It's one thing having that happen to a purse that cost me a few hundred. I can't imagine how I would deal with it if was a purse that cost thousands.

This is sooooo me! My husband even knows. We went to get frozen yogurt last week and he blocked my pocketbook when the girl was putting whipped cream on his yogurt...you know how it kinda sprays, LOL. Another time I was using my Dooney Patent Zip Zip and my poor son kept touching the handles in the car cuz he had to move my purse and I kept saying, stop touching it, LOL! I'm a lil crazy and the Zip Zip was a steal at $89 - can you imagine if it cost more - I'd be a mess and more annoying than I already am

Glad I am not the only one like that. I recently was in an exam room at my dr's office and I placed my purse on a chair. The doctor came in and put my purse on the floor (the horror) so he can sit in the chair. The whole time he was talking to me, I couldn't concentrate because I just wanted to grab my purse off the floor!

:roflmfao:
I've certainly had moments when I could only concentrate on my purse. Like once when I had to brake hard, my purse went flying and landed on the floor. I was mortified!! I kept glancing down at my poor bag on the floor of my truck. Poor baby!! I pulled over to rescue her. Now I buckle my bags in...;)
Another "Eeek!" Moment:
I had my dog at the vet for shots, and there was a puppy who tried to gnaw on the straps of the bag I was carrying. I was bug-eyed with astonishment. "Uhh" I muttered weakly, and looked around. Luckily, the puppy's owner came and got him. If that had been a premier bag, I'd have come completely unglued.
Sorry for being OT!

Thank you for the laughs...I literally was cracking up reading your posts! I would have totally reacted the same which made it even more funny (I tried to add the laughing emoticon but they don't always work for me)

As handbag lovers I know that many of us have veered from our norm and been smitten with brands that we never thought we would have lusted after.

I was led astray last year for a very high end brand and started 'wanting' and 'wanting' more and more. I quickly saw that was a dangerous road to go down as I don't have unlimited funds for bags.
Nor do I really have the desire for a ton of bags.

As a result of my mis-guided addiction I ended up buying (and selling) about 8 of these luxury pieces. No regrets and I've come to my senses.

I've now started exploring more affordable (but of equal quality in my mind) brands such as Coach which I find to have the aesthetics that I need without breaking the bank.

I'm not bashing any brand, just bashing my 'mercurial' tastes. There comes a time when one needs to have a come to Jesus meeting and get real!

Have you ever run into a brand that you thought you 'had to have' and then had second thoughts?

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with owning several brands at all, what I'm wondering is if you ever started down that luxury road and then had a change of heart.

My achilles heel was LV, what was yours?

BTW, I did keep my Speedy B and I love it. It's the one bag from LV that I'll keep.

And just in case anyone here is wondering.....I've never given up on Coach! They always have such a great variety that they always keep me interested....:smile1:

I've always been sort of a junkie when it comes to handbags. No particular drug of choice, I'll just buy whatever makes me feel good at the moment. As a result, I have a little bit of everything. Fendi, Marc Jacobs, MCM, Louis Vuitton, plus the American classics, Coach and Dooney. (I sorta stopped buying Coach after they moved away from the thick, heavy glove-tanned leather that I liked.) And only twice have I regretted buying luxury bags. After getting them, I realized that I fell for the hype. I found myself obsessing over a Prada tote (thanks to Olivia Pope) and after finally getting it--it was so disappointing. The bag was depressing; it was too stiff and cold, even for a structured bag. I just wasn't feeling it and the construction wasn't that great either. I also won a Birkin from an auction. I was on cloud 9. Finally, I've reached the top of the handbag mountain! When I got it, it was soooo underwhelming. It was just a big old bag. The leather was nice, but it wasn't the near orgasmic feeling leather that everyone gushed about. But, it was a Birkin. I took it to Hermes to have it sent to the spa; the customer service was piss poor and they estimated it would cost $900 to repair scratches and get new keys. I was so turned off by that, I didn't want the bag anymore. The auction house re-sold it for me and I say good riddance.

I'm currently mulling over a Stella McCartney. They look so nice on other people, but I can't deal with $1000 for a plastic bag. I might treat myself...who knows?

Wow! I feel like this was written by me. LOL.

I have always purchased premier designer self-authenticated from auction sites, and that has served me well; it takes a few years to gain experience to know what's real and otherwise, but it's worth it. That said, I tend to stay away from brands like Chanel and LV that have too high of a resale value for me to get it at a reasonable price. At the end of the day, I know I'm not the kind of one-bag-a-year person, who can purchase a HG bag and not look at any further conquests, so I go for contemporary brands if I were to buy through the retailers. For the price of one, I would much rather buy several. Such is the way with me; however, I love to look at reveals of members from all subforums!

Yes! I've realized if I stick to contemporary brands I can buy one bag a month instead of one every six months to a year.

Interesting thoughts on other brands that you thought would be fantastic....! I too moved away from Coach many years ago when their leathers seemed to change. I think they've improved a lot in recent years with some wonderful styles and great quality.

Makes me happy to find well-constructed bags at affordable prices. No brand is perfect and it's fun to discover other ones that appeal!

Variety is the very spice of life!! While I wouldn't know what to do with that many bags if I purchased one a month it would be fun......I don't have the storage space for that many bags.
I envy those who do...:smile1:

I have owned a few Fendis, a Burberry and a Gucci. I got rid of all of them. I only sort of regret one of the Fendis. They were all relatively inexpensive as I bought them used, so I didn't have to deal with the guilt of spending too much. I can never bring myself to take the risk to spend a humungous amount of money on one purse. It just seems like it would create too much pressure to love it and carry it a lot. Even some of my more expensive Coaches make me feel like I'm not getting my money's worth.

There are designer purses I've toyed with buying, including a $4000 LV, a $4000 Dior, a $2000 Chanel, and a $2000 Versace. I've stayed in love with some of them for a long time but can't get myself to drop that much money on one bag. I think it is just my personality. I've always looked for the best deal for my money and I'd rather have a large assortment rather than a few very special items. I get bored if I carry a bag longer than a week at a time. Some of my older Coaches and my recent Henri Bendels are as nice as anything I could get from a premier brand.

We live in an area that just doesn't warrant carrying designer bags. We rarely go anywhere that requires dressing up. I have a panic attack if someone gets near one of my bags with a pen or something accidentally spills. It's one thing having that happen to a purse that cost me a few hundred. I can't imagine how I would deal with it if was a purse that cost thousands.

+1 I completely agree.

Oh! I don't have that space either. LOL. I give them to my Mom, my sister, or even sell a few when I run out of space. My mom and I have always been that mother/daughter who trade out bags and shoes. I like to keep my collection rotating, except for the few that were special gifts that I can't bear to part with :)

Yes, I did the same thing with LV and like you, came to my senses and am in the process of selling some of them. I have 5 pieces , mostly monogram, and while I love them, I just cannot justify spending that much money on something you carry your stuff around in. I also get so nervous about the vachetta that they sit in my closet.

I have never given up on Coach either and never will. Coach bags are certainly not cheap but definitely more practical and attainable for me. And you cannot beat the quality!
