As handbag lovers I know that many of us have veered from our norm and been smitten with brands that we never thought we would have lusted after.

I was led astray last year for a very high end brand and started 'wanting' and 'wanting' more and more. I quickly saw that was a dangerous road to go down as I don't have unlimited funds for bags.
Nor do I really have the desire for a ton of bags.

As a result of my mis-guided addiction I ended up buying (and selling) about 8 of these luxury pieces. No regrets and I've come to my senses.

I've now started exploring more affordable (but of equal quality in my mind) brands such as Coach which I find to have the aesthetics that I need without breaking the bank.

I'm not bashing any brand, just bashing my 'mercurial' tastes. There comes a time when one needs to have a come to Jesus meeting and get real!

Have you ever run into a brand that you thought you 'had to have' and then had second thoughts?

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with owning several brands at all, what I'm wondering is if you ever started down that luxury road and then had a change of heart.

My achilles heel was LV, what was yours?

BTW, I did keep my Speedy B and I love it. It's the one bag from LV that I'll keep.

And just in case anyone here is wondering.....I've never given up on Coach! They always have such a great variety that they always keep me interested....:smile1:

I have always purchased premier designer self-authenticated from auction sites, and that has served me well; it takes a few years to gain experience to know what's real and otherwise, but it's worth it. That said, I tend to stay away from brands like Chanel and LV that have too high of a resale value for me to get it at a reasonable price. At the end of the day, I know I'm not the kind of one-bag-a-year person, who can purchase a HG bag and not look at any further conquests, so I go for contemporary brands if I were to buy through the retailers. For the price of one, I would much rather buy several. Such is the way with me; however, I love to look at reveals of members from all subforums!

I totally get not being the "one-bag-a-year person"! It's a great feeling when we have that revelation about ourselves, isn't it?

Allows one to relax a bit about our choices......

Besides Coach I do still buy a lot of LV and burberry and some chanel slg's, but not as much as I used too. The price increases for chanel and LV are hard to keep up with. I did give up on MK a long time ago though, I have quite a few bags from them, but I started to notice there were too many styles that were very "influenced" from higher end designers and it definitely lost appeal to me.

I know what you mean about MK. It's too bad really because if his designs were a bit more original I think he might have something there....lol. His quality seems very good and I did buy one of his wallets once but ended up selling it. It was a gorgeous wallet but bigger than I really needed.
I totally agree with you about the price increases for LV....too much!

I have owned a few Fendis, a Burberry and a Gucci. I got rid of all of them. I only sort of regret one of the Fendis. They were all relatively inexpensive as I bought them used, so I didn't have to deal with the guilt of spending too much. I can never bring myself to take the risk to spend a humungous amount of money on one purse. It just seems like it would create too much pressure to love it and carry it a lot. Even some of my more expensive Coaches make me feel like I'm not getting my money's worth.

There are designer purses I've toyed with buying, including a $4000 LV, a $4000 Dior, a $2000 Chanel, and a $2000 Versace. I've stayed in love with some of them for a long time but can't get myself to drop that much money on one bag. I think it is just my personality. I've always looked for the best deal for my money and I'd rather have a large assortment rather than a few very special items. I get bored if I carry a bag longer than a week at a time. Some of my older Coaches and my recent Henri Bendels are as nice as anything I could get from a premier brand.

We live in an area that just doesn't warrant carrying designer bags. We rarely go anywhere that requires dressing up. I have a panic attack if someone gets near one of my bags with a pen or something accidentally spills. It's one thing having that happen to a purse that cost me a few hundred. I can't imagine how I would deal with it if was a purse that cost thousands.

I went down the LV road for awhile, a little overboard actually. Then I realized I just didn't really like the bags for myself. Sold them and now I own only Coach. Most of my bags are pre-owned treasures I've found, as I'm partial to particular leathers so have to search for them. I love having a variety of bags and SLG, so Coach, especially pre-owned and FOS is a better option for me. :)

I was sort of in that place last year. I bought my one premier designer bag last Fall, and as a result was really, heavily considering leaving behind my norm ( Coach ) in favor of running with the big dogs. I started really researching premier brands, but just never pulled the trigger. My wallet is thankful. ( so is my closet, haha )

It's funny i wondered if you were going to say the brand then was not surprised when you said LV lol

Haven't been in this position yet, i'll go with yet as i never say never... it's difficult to balance what suits your lifestyle and brands you admire/desire, but i try to hence i have not gone down the super high end route.

I like dabbling in different brands because each brings something different to the table... some brands make great totes, while others make great satchels NO way iMO does a singular brand make a superior bag across the board, none i don't care at what price point.

This forum is great fun but i also think keeps people out of touch with reality, most people consider hundreds on a bag a lot here that is like 50$ lol which is not realistic. I think it's important to make sure you are buying the bag because it suits you and what you like not the name not saying brands are unimportant but just because it's the ever popular Mctoaster(obviously made up here lol ) doesn't mean it's for you. ;)

Most do not put the thought into bags that we do here so sincerely do not care if the brand is "inspired by" "worn by" or made by little elves in Ireland... most are just oh, nice bag... and move on... it's a slippery slope so one has to be careful to not let yourself get carried away past your own comfort zone.

I agree with everything you've said here. I'm thankful that I've had the opportunity to carry (if even for a short time) some of the LV's that I "absolutely had to have!" and found out differently after using them.

Since they do hold there value I actually made money on them but don't care to go back down that road. I do love their SLG's and still own a couple but most of the bags aren't to my style anyways so no big loss there.
I did spend (for me) a small fortune on my Speedy B and feel guilty every day I leave my house without it....lol!

Wonder if that feeling will ever go away:shame:

"Little elves in Ireland", lol. I must have one!

I too feel guilty when I don't use my LV -- like many of us here, I have quite a few bags in my closet. So now I say to myself, gotta use my LV one weekend a month. Otherwise it is just sitting there in the dust bag. I guess part of me is nervous about carrying a premier brand bag. I once broke a jar of bbq sauce at the supermarket and it got some over my cream color purse -- luckily it wiped off ok. Just read over on the LV subforum that someone's LV purse was stolen straight out of her car through an open window while she was in the car.

That's the reason I can't pull the trigger on an expensive bag.
