So basically a grey market watch or not. After the warranty period you'll have to pay out of your own pocket to fix it anyway? But you'll be able to send to the manufacture to fix regardless where you purchase right? I saw my watch on prestige watch and they are a lot cheaper than boutiques.

When I was buying my OMEGA Seamaster (Aqua Terra) I searched the watch forums and this is what I gathered...

Basically sometimes ADs are "required" to purchase a certain amount of watches under a certain time to maintain their authorized dealer status. Sometimes the goods aren't that easy to move so they resell these watches to the grey market vendors like Jomashop.com etc.

The watches are REAL, but since it didn't come from a AD, there is no stamped warranty paperwork (ALTHOUGH you do get the warranty cards, it's just NOT stamped).

I ended up buying my Omega from Prestigetime.com (if I remember correctly) for $1700 when retail is $2500? Something like that.... Shipping was fast and service was great. One thing you HAVE HAVE HAVE to always check is if the serial numbers on the watches are there, some grey market dealers remove them so the serial numbers CANNOT be tracked back to the AD who sold the watch to a grey market vendor.

Mine came with all papers + serial number.

How is your watch holding up so far??prestigetime.com really have the best deal price compare to a lot other online websites.

Yea that's my question too...like for instance if I bought a cartier watch from them and would I be able to take it to a cartier boutique for repairs later? Or will they ask where I got it from and for paper work or something?

I did a little more research and decided to purchase from a local authorized dealer. Just google gray market watches. Some articles said the watches may have the serial number removed in order to prevent the manufacturer from determining which store sold its inventory to the gray market. It went on to say that without the serial number the manufacturer would not service the watch, which is why, I presume, that Jomashop has to offer the warranty. Also mentioned in some states an item without a serial number might be considered stolen property; I didn't quite understand the reasoning behind this - but in the end I decided the potential headaches weren't worth the potential savings!

Still beautiful and perfect. From that day i posted that message, I've seriously been wearing it every single day.

that good too hear. Now im just gonna have to come up with the money. Cuz there is some places they offer finance on watches too. but prestige dont really do that so. Im thinking about pay like 50% down and pay the rest later.

Being a fellow Canadian, I should mention that you need to be aware of the duty charges on a big ticket item like that. It will completely negate the savings. Go to the AD, bargain for the 20% discount, get the stamped paperwork and warranty, and you'll probably pay less than ordering from Jomashop after all is said and done.

The coaxial escapement would be super expensive to service too, if something isn't right. Best to have that covered under warranty!

there is another onine shop calle prestigetime. I emailed their CS. they said it'll come with original warranty paper and if anything is wrong i can take to boutiques as well. But im still doing a little bit shop. Since watch is still consider a big investment. if anyone got more experience plz share.

im in the usa i don't think there is duties. I found an authorize dealer but the watch is selling almost 3k more than prestige watch. and prestige said there will be warranty paper stamped by authorized dealer and etcs. so there is no difference .

They have no customer service and if you try to call the phone number you get voicemail and NO return call. After all the problems I had with them I return the watch to find out that they are charging me back for the "free" shipping.. They are scam company!!!

You save money upfront with grey market but any warranty they offer is essentially worthless since most repair in-house and to rather poor standards. The upside is that most of the time the savings from buying grey market more than cover a factory overhaul if something were to go wrong. With a company like omega you can easily haggle 20 to 40 percent off from an authorized dealer. I'd recommend going grey market if it were a discount over 60 percent though.
