Has anyone debated lately about selling off their whole LV collection?

I don’t have a massive collection and in the past I have sold off what I hadn’t used in a while. I sold them as I realised over the years maybe my thoughts weren’t the same as when I purchased them - eg I bought the Alma PM in 2016 and used it once. I bought the Alma BB at the end of 2017 and it is one of my most used bags.
I will unlikely purchase much more as the constant price increases and battling to find classic pieces is becoming tedious. That coupled with bad quality items and fear of buying in excess of the company’s current policy on canvas goods is just too much for me personally. I pre ordered a Christmas animation round coin purse over the phone and it arrived with quality I wasn’t happy with. When I asked for this to be replaced, the item had already sold out and I was forced to choose whether to keep an item I felt was below standard or miss out on the collection.I thought to keep it was the right choice given I had chased a coin purse for years but eventually I sold it off as I realised keeping things I wasn’t happy with wasn’t going to give me peace.
This is just my opinion and I hope the original poster finds a way to make the decision that is right for them.

I’ve been thinking of it for awhile now.

I love LV but I have a number of pieces I have never used. To be honest, I can think of 30 bags that I haven’t used in years...

I no longer travel and now work within walking distance of my home. I don’t even get dressed anymore for work.

I know I’ll regret selling but I would rather the pieces go to loving forever homes.

Unfortunately I have no one to pass the collection down too.

OP: I've only kept LV vintage luggage, everything else (not that much actually) went a long time ago. I kept MJ as CD RTW too.

It's a big decision if you are heavily invested financially and emotionally. If you start with the pieces you know you won't regret, selling little by little, you may actually feel a little relief from the one's gone and more attached to the one's left.

I would also investigate further why you like the look but not the use, that's very a very interesting dichotomy to have.

Others on this thread: I'm very sad to hear of the issues going on at LV, even more so knowing that profits went up even during the pandemic

It's been interesting becoming an active LV buyer again after almost ten years, bar a few SLGs in that time. I guess with having kids, I barely had time to enjoy what I already had (not a huge amount) so it's only in the last 6 months that I've really added to the collection in a huge way. Funnily enough, I've been mostly buying the items that I missed out on when I wasn't buying LV so mostly secondhand. The current LV collection and business model really seems different to me. I guess a change in head designer makes a huge difference too. And I won't lie that I'm not alarmed by all the faults and issues people report here.

So I get how you may be over it. The bags are so much more expensive and it's only for a milestone that I'll actually buy a new bag from the current collection. On the other hand, I know that for the same money I can get something pretty special secondhand.

But don't sell your entire collection. I guess as with clothes, if you haven't worn something for 12 or even 6 months, maybe put them away and consider selling them. I did that with a particular doll I collected. I put my least loved ones away and if I didn't really miss them after half a year, I moved them on (and bought a LV...) lol

I still enjoy the SLGs, mainly for their durability, but I haven’t reached for my Empreinte Montaigne in months. I look at it and no longer feel drawn to it.

I would consider parting with it, but the Empreinte line doesn’t have much demand here, so much that the resale value is equivalent to a Monogram Montaigne. Thankfully my mother still carries the bag on my behalf from time to time.

No more Louis Vuitton for me as well, at least for awhile.

Let’s see. I’ve been loving latter the brand since multicolored came out. Seeing all the canvas pieces become impossible to find has me disheartened. Along with the insane price increases. I’ve been active with owning an LV for 10 years at least. Some of my pieces are maybe 5 years older now. I remember getting my first LV pre loved and it was 750 and freaking out about the cost. Lol. I sold her a long tone ago. Was not for me. I just wonder if maybe LV isn’t me. No matter how much I love looking at it it doesn’t feel right when I use it.
Some people just "outgrow" a brand, for so many different reasons. You have to want to carry/wear it and feel comfortable doing it, otherwise you will feel awkward. There have been sooooo many threads here about people who feel heavily scrutinized, judged, embarassed "...when carrying LV".... You seem to know you're at a point where you may need to branch out to other designers, so just go with your gut/intuition and perhaps one day you may find your way back to feeling the LVoe again. (And if you're part of tpf Marketplace, you can unload your collection there -- would love to see it !!)

I absolutely think LV quality is not the same. I have a square bag don't even remember the style name from 1991, quality is unbelievable, still looks new after so much use. It's my treasure. Then I remember going into old 5ave store (before the current 57st) to buy the bucket bag in early 2000 & even the buying experience was different. I still remember them telling me to have a seat while they took my bag & rang it as I relaxed in a chair, didn't even need to stand in line as they brought back my card, receipt & my new bag all wrapped up. It felt like a luxury shopping experience. Now you go to 57st store & it no way has that same buying experience. So I am too kind of disillusioned, but like someone said here, I'll just enjoy what I own, likely not buy more bags but may still get SLGs. But I wouldn't sell them, it's like they're my babies, remember each purchases w fond memories LOL

TPF has a place to sell/buy/trade items if you meet criteria. You need to be a regular , frequent active contributor, (not just lurking here) in order to get approval. Here's a link from the O.G. forum, but if non-O.G members can't access it, it would be best to inquire as to the specifics with a moderator.

I sold all my bags one time after a fit of guilt for owning too much stuff. I definitely regret some of those sales! Now, I'm VERY thoughtful about what I sell. But, the bottom line is you can replace just about anything for the right price. Sometimes better price, sometimes at a loss.

I am thoroughly enjoying some other brands besides LV right now and am shocked when people complement my bags that I assume they don't recognize. I carried my Celine Trapeze today and got 2 complements. It's pretty much unbranded. And Loewe is not a big brand around here and I get complimented on that bag too. Just about everyone has LV here, so I think any beautiful bag that is NOT LV gets complemented. LOL.

If you feel uncomfortable carrying your bags, then sell. You can rebuy. But you might not ever rebuy them.

I've gone through phases where I buy and sell and buy again. There are certain pieces I don't use regularly but will keep forever because of their sentimental value. My first LV was a Neverfull that I bought in London and it was the most I had ever spent on a bag at the time - I was literally sweating handing over my credit card. I don't use it much now, but I know that I might want to again. That being said, I am ruthless with most things. If I'm not using it, I sell it. I bought a Christmas animation mini pochette a few years ago and I loved the design, but I literally never used it and it sat in its dust bag from the moment I got it home until the moment I sold it years later. I've regretted it in some cases, but there are times I've sold an item, bought it again, and then it just sat in my closet and I ended up selling it again.

I recently got rid of most of my bags to have a more core collection of pieces that I love (and fund a new LV purchase). I still have more than I can use realistically, but I love the pieces I do have and am satisfied shopping my closet.

For anyone considering downsizing a collection, I think you need to just think about what pieces are the ones that you can see using in the future, or ones that have a particular memory attached. I'll never get rid of the Neverfull, or the Speedy B I got for my 30th birthday in Paris, even if I'm not using them a lot right now.

No. I only have two bags and a wallet, anyway ... one bag and the wallet just bought. I have no issues with quality and price increases cos I only buy vintage. It's all I can afford. One bag was $450 and the other was $660 -- both in excellent condition. If those two issues are your main ones, why not stick with vintage?

Not my whole collection but definitely a lot of it I would like to sell off. I've bought some limited/show bags which I feel now I'm older just look silly, I wish I'd just purchased pieces in monogram. I'm in Aus so it's a lot bigger challenge to sell them here.
