I watched Vi and I just have to comment on it even though the film came out a while ago.

The performance Gustaf gives in this film is astonishing. I thought he was very good in Patrick 1.5 and Evil.

Vi takes him to an entirely different level. The nuances that he brought to the character were superb. The film is disturbing as you witness the dysfunctional relationship of these broken and toxic people.

Every time Gustaf is on screen he brings such tension and power. The way he could change his character from vulnerable to menacing was astonishing. No gimmicks. No scary music. Just his face and body language. He's absolutely brilliant! His scenes with Rebecca Ferguson made my toes curl. I'm still rattled.

I respect him so much.

If there's any justice in the acting world, Gustaf will be considered for better roles. He's so much more than quirky Floki. It's a waste of his talent even though it's given him recognition.

Jealous! I haven't had yet an opportunity to see Vi. But heard it's great. I was convinced of Gustaf's acting talent ever since Bibliotekstjuven. Kon Tiki is on Netflix here. Have to watch it soon.

If the world were a fair place Gustaf would be on a level with Cumberbatch, Hiddleston and Co. in terms of casting choices. But sadly it's not.

Bibliotekstjuven did it for me. He is just mindblowingly good there. SO good. Steals every scene and takes it to an entirely different level. It's downright tragic that it's probably his looks that prevent him from getting a big international break (especially since he IS damn hot) *pouts* But I guess we can always hope he will get that *one* role that will make a difference..

I will try to find that one with subtitles.

As far as Gustaf's looks prohibiting him from getting work in Hollywood, I'm not sure. Men are "allowed" to be bald, fat, old or not conventionally attractive and still get great roles. Or still be considered "sex symbols" for that matter.

Very true. Even for them, it took some time to find their breakthrough.

He just has to be patient and make the right connections. I sense from some of his interviews that when he tried to crack the US market in the past he got frustrated.

Maybe Gustaf doesn't want to be all Hollywood and famous. I think I read somewhere that he said he has no interest in being a big star or something in those words. :thinkin:
As for his looks, he seems very sensitive about losing his hair. He could have used Rogaine or go to hair club for men. In this day and age, if you have money, there are ways to get your hair to regrow. Seeing how sensitive he about that, I don't know why he never tried that. I think he looks gorgeous completely shaved and bald. Poor guy has no idea.
Hollywood is a *****y town. They have no problem telling someone in the audition "you're too old for the part" or "You're too fat" or etc. Gustaf seems very sensitive and doesn't have the rhinoceros skin Alex does. Look how many years it took Alex to break into Hollywood? God knows what they said to him. Not easy. Bill has had it quite easy I think. Between his gorgeous looks and being Alex's kid brother, many doors opened for him. Sometimes it's not fair. At least Gustaf has Vikings as his success and it's a great show.

He's said that he doesn't want to sell out making cheesy films.

He wants to work with top notch directors and actors in quality projects. As well he should. He's got all the talent in the world and he should get his choice of roles.

You edited your post to add this comment.

Gustaf gave an interview a while back talking about the pain of losing his hair. He was quite candid about it and now seems more accepting of the fact.

I'm not sure what you mean by the rhinoceros skin of Alex. Yeah he was toiling around Hollywood for years before getting cast in Generation Kill. He had the financial luxury to do so unlike most actors. So even if he got turned down for a role, he never had to work a regular job. He's handsome and blonde but I'm not sure what types of roles might be available to him as he starts to age. His hairline has gotten further and further back too.

With Gustaf I see a deep passion for acting. The electricity in his performances is undeniable and I want to see him do more.

Great that you managed to see Vi. One of my fave Gurra performances alongside Hamlet & The Serious Game.
