Is there anything wrong with buying MFF bags? My first coach was a FP bag. I reluctantly sold it after my husband got laid off from his job and went a year without employment, and I've regretted it every since. I just bought 4 bags to hopefully try to fill the void (ha ha!) but they all came from the outlet. Now I'm regretting my choice and wishing I would have just bought one FP bag.

There is nothing wrong with MFF bags. I can't tell the difference sometimes. If you like the styling and quality, why should it matter?

I have a lot of MFF accessories but I don't have any MFF bags. I have bought a few and returned them because the styling and details just weren't as nice as FP, in my opinion. But I have seen some MFF bags at the outlet that are exceptions to that rule and they are every bit as nice as any FP bag.

You can often find FP delete bags at the outlet at a good price (my closet is full of them!) Maybe you should save up and wait until you see one that you really want. Good luck!

Pretty much all my bags (that I have now) are FP deletes bought from the Outlet store. I have one FP bag I bought from the FP Boutique and one MFF Sophia. Honestly, they are all well made, beautiful bags. I compared my MFF bag with my Steve Madden tote and you can absolutely see the better quality of the Coach MFF bag. IMHO, Coach is Coach and is a high quality bag. :)

Katev, thanks for the excellent guide! I have a question, and I hope this is the right place to ask it. The creed on the Poppy Glam tote I just bought at an outlet does not mention the bag's country of origin (nor does it have a bullseye, fwiw). I turned the lining and pockets inside out and there's no country of origin tag anywhere on the bag. Is this unusual? I've attached a photo of the creed below.

It seems strange because I also got a Lindsey satchel (Aegean! I fell in love! :smile1:) and the creed says made in Vietnam, and there's a separate brown Made in Vietnam tag as well.

(And to those keeping track... the Poppy came with a dustbag, the Lindsey did not, but the lovely SA at the Petaluma outlet found a spare for me! And the drawstring bag I got with my key fob had brown thread and brown printing.)

Thanks for the info!

I have read some posts recently on TPF saying that some recent Coach creeds no longer showing the country of manufacture. I don't know if that is the new format or just a temporary glitch. But I am surprised that there is no "Made in" tag in the bag. I thought imported goods were supposed to be labeled?

I have gotten a few FP deletes at the outlet that do not have a bullseye mark on the creed. I figured that they were returns and someone missed marking them. I just consider it an extra little perk! Congrats on your new bags!

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing your thoughts -- it is so nice to have this resource. Especially since my love of Coach has been rekindled recently and I'm now totally obsessed. :smile1:

Abbreviations and Symbols on Items With a Creed Patch:

Coach has used many variations in their serial numbers and creeds over the years and you can find loads of information about them, and how to distinguish fakes from genuine bags, under the Authenticity Questions Thread at the below:
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/answers-to-authenticity-questions-94198.html

But here are some markings that Coach adds to the serial number or stamps on the creed patch to indicate specific types of bags, I have also attached some pictures below. Feel free to add additional abbreviations and photos!

Bullet (target or bullseye symbol) = Full price boutique bag sold at the outlet for a discount (FP Delete)

F after the serial number's hyphen = Made for Factory bag, sold only at the outlets or online factory sale

X = An MFF grade bag sold at a discount store like Marshalls

M = A boutique grade bag made exclusively for Macys

N = A boutique grade bag made exclusively for Nordstroms

FS (or 2 bullet stamps) = final sale (extra discount was given but Coach won’t accept return or repair requests)

ES = employee sale, sold to a Coach employee at a discount (may also void returns/repairs?)

P = Pilot bag, a test product that may not have ever gone into production

Don’t worry too much about the numbers/letter that appear in front of the hyphen, they indicate the month and year of manufacture and the plant code/country. That’s helpful information when you are trying to identify or authenticate a specific bag; but in the beginning it is helpful just remember that F after the hyphen means MFF bag and a bullet on the creed patch means FP delete sold at a discount at the outlet.

Below are photos of some of these markings.

Picture #1: Boutique Bag, this bag was probably sold at a boutique or department store, there is no bullet on the creed and there is no F after the hyphen. We call this an full price (FP) bag but you may have gotten it on sale at the department store or during a PCE event at the Coach boutique.

Picture #2: FP Delete (or transfer bag). This bag was probably sold at a discount at an outlet/factory store. There is no F after the hyphen and there is a bullet (bullseye) symbol on the creed patch to prevent someone from returning it for full price.

Picture #3: MFF bag (I borrowed this pic from ebay.) The F after the hyphen indicates that it was made for the outlet. The MSRP on the tag has been inflated and then immediately marked down. A similar grade bag that was sold at a discount store like Marshalls or Loehmanns may have an X instead of an F.

Picture #4: 2 Bullet Stamps (or sometimes they use an "FS" stamp) indicates that the bag was sold “as is” as a final sale with an extra discount, but Coach will not let you return it or accept it for repairs.

In the next message I will post info and pics about markings on items without creed patches.

What can you tell us about the model numbers that end with an E? It seems some of us have found what appears to be FP bags but have an E at the end of the numbers. Curiosity is killing me! Thank you in advance for any information!

I have seen discussions about the bags ending with E on the forum recently too. I have no idea what it means but I am also curious, hopefully someone will have an answer soon! Sorry, I can't help!

The only thing I can come up with is 'Extras'. lol! The bag is definitely FP Coach. It came in the plastic bag that purses from FOS sales come in, BUT the tissue wrapping was definitely FP Coach. Plus, it had a dust bag and no F before the style number and no bullet either.

I'm thinking maybe they had an overrun so instead of flooding the market with that style number, they put a new number on the patches. The reason I'm kinda guessing this is because the bag I bought is absolutely identical to another one with a different number. Same color leather, same color hardware, same size, ect.

What is the name of your bag and the full creed number? I'd like to try and do some investigating.

I wish you would. I've been tempted to called Jax and see if someone there can find out. It is a Sophia gray leather gathered with gunmetal hardware. The patch numbers are:

M1282 - 23748E

The price tag has: 23748E QB/GY $498.00

So according to the patch, it was manufactured in December of 2012, right? Well, its the same bag as a 15942 that is posted on the 'Post Your Gathered Leather Coach here' thread, post #7 by 4vryng. I think 15942's were made in 2011.

Good luck!

Yes, it was made in Dec 2012. Thanks, I will poke around and see if I can find anything.
