Goyard - Quality and Durability Discussion

Wanted to provide a brief update on my saga in the hopes this will be helpful for others! I ended up sending a politely-but-strongly-worded follow-up email that ended up making it to the right person, got a shipping label, and sent my bag in nearly 3 months after kicking off the process. I haven't heard anything since November 28, had sent a few follow-up emails, and then thought about this post and figured I should call the NYC store to see what I could learn. In 2 weeks I'm traveling outside the US for the first time since 2019 (!!) and really want to have this bag as it's the perfect size in my collection to take all I need for a 13 hour (!!!!) flight. I was able to get through to a SA who told me the repair had been completed and the bag was going through final checks. She told me she'd put a note in my file about my departure date to try to ensure the bag gets back to me in time.

So...moral of the story...if your bag has already been sent and accepted for US repairs and you're looking for a status update, there's nothing to lose by calling the NYC store. Thank you again @tenshix
Hope you get your bag back in perfect order and with no more issues! Enjoy your trip!

UPDATE:

My Belvédère PM bag is already in Goyard’s Hong Kong store (that’s where the after-sales rep told me to send my bag.) Kenji, the after-sales associate who’s been assisting me the whole time, is so helpful and patient with me. I only had to pay the shipping fee and nothing else. They said it usually takes a month for the bag to get fixed. So happy that Goyard offered me the complimentary repair.

All I can do now is wait for the bag to be shipped back to me.
Hello. Curious how long it took for the bag to be sent back to you?

I am in a similar situation (live in the Philippines, bag is defective).

Goyard’s quality and after-sales service is really poor considering how much their bags are priced. Sigh.

I bought my hardy pm from a store in Paris. One of the handles cracked soon thereafter. I sent in my bag to repair via SF store. Four months and four hundred dollars later I receive my bag handles attached crooked. I’m so shocked at the quality of repair. I reached out to the SF store and they connected me to the NY repair store. NY says I have to send in my bag AGAIN for evaluation. What evaluation? It is pretty clear that the repair was faulty. Anyhoo they said they will provide expedited review. I’ll provide an update once I hear from them. View attachment 5682648
I wanted to provid me an update in hopes that no one else suffers. So Goyard NYC wanted me to send the bag back to them for “expedited evaluation.” I agreed but clearly told them I did not want the tabs to get stitched in again because that would leave holes. To my horror, I hear back from them after a week saying that the bag has been fixed. They went ahead and did what I told them not too and now there’s multiple holes in the canvas and leather. I asked for a refund and they completely ghosted me so I took them to court. They never showed up and the judge ruled in my favor. I’m appalled and disgusted at being treated this way and needless to say I am done with Goyard as a brand. There are plenty of other luxury brands out there for me.

That’s so disappointing Makes me sad. I have a few Goyard pieces I got in Paris in 2018. Fortunately, they’re still in great condition. Since the pandemic a lot of artisans have retired, so the newer artisans haven’t had a lot of experience. I do believe they are “graduated” too soon to more than making keychains and other SLGs. But it’s still very sad to see the quality plunge like that.

Wow! Thank you for sharing. Did Goyard do anything after the judge ruled in your favor?

Hi, TPFers! I wanted to ask your opinions on something..

I'm getting ready to buy a special bag for myself after working for several years toward a specific promotion and finally receiving it. I own several designer bags (Chanel, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Celine, YSL, etc.) but have bought every single one preowned up to this point. To celebrate this milestone, I'd like to purchase a brand new bag for myself.

I have two LV Neverfulls that I adore. They're functional, lightweight, and durable. As a mom of a young toddler and a frequent traveler, these totes are fantastic for my lifestyle. As a result, I've been considering a Goyard tote. I particularly love the bright colors!

Here is where I'm stuck: Will I be disappointed in the quality/longevity of a St. Louis if I do buy one? I don't stuff my bags (I carry a wallet, keys, a small wristlet with chapstick/sanitizer/etc., and occasionally a pair of sunglasses all in a lightweight felt organizer) but do sometimes throw in some items for my toddler (a lightweight change of clothes or a stuffed toy). Whenever I carry a laptop or iPad, I use a backpack, and I hand-carry a water bottle. With that said, though, I'm concerned that even with this light load, the St. Louis will crack/show serious canvas wear.

I do live in a fairly humid area, if that matters, but I take care to keep my bags out of extreme weather as much as possible.

Does anyone have any insight on this? Would love to hear some opinions from you experts as no one in my circles "gets it" when it comes to handbags. ;) Thanks in advance!

I have 27 Goyard bags (11 of which are Saint Louis totes) and 14 other Goyard pieces. I have never experienced any quality issues. That being said, it is difficult to speak generally about how any item will endure, especially since perceptions of “light” use are subjective.

I live in a VERY HOT part of Texas and carry my Anjou tote daily, I have for a couple of years. There's no quality issues with it or any of mine. The Anjou is basically a leather lined, reversible StL. I'd buy it in every color if I could!

I have a gray Artois that I use for work. I think I have been using it almost daily for going on 8 years!!! The straps are holding up very well and I don't know what's in my bag but it's heavy! The corners are heavily scuffed as expected, but I do not baby this bag. I throw it in the car, leave it on the floor, and basically lug it around on an almost daily basis. It's been rained on, snowed on, spilled in... the body of the bag still looks very new, just the corners are scuffed. I recently purchased a new Artois in Paris in black but I haven't felt the need to use it yet... my current tote is working just fine for me.
