I have been admiring everyone's gorgeous Kelly bags for a while, and only quite recently i was fortunate enough to finally be offered one from the boutique. I was quite elated that I was able to finally get one, however, after having taken it out for only about three times so far, I noticed something that has been bothering me a lot: it seems like the studs on the back of the straps are sticking out and scratching each other. It also left some deep scratch marks on the center metal plate as well...

I understand that as the bag is used and enjoyed, metal scratches are bound to happen, especially because I took all the plastic protective materials off the moment I got the bag. But what concerns me more is that the studs on the back of the straps stick out and are scratching each other. Is this normal for a kelly bag?
(I checked the straps on my B and Jypsiere, and none of them have the same problem. Therefore, I was wondering if this only happens on Kellys...?)

I also noticed that there are discolorations on both of the clasps... I was told it is normal, but I do wonder if this is really normal or they just don't want to fix it..

It will make me feel so much better if anyone could share some insight on any of these issues.
Maybe I just worry too much since it is my first Kelly...

amka, i hope you get to enjoy your beautiful beautiful bag
i can not put it any simpler, the first step you can take is to stop looking at your HW. whatever you do, when we wear bags with HW they will get scratches. whatever the reasons. no need to wonder what those reasons are. because when you do, you will enter a hole that the members have been discussing here for weeks

Honhon, Thank you for saying this! My Kelly's are vintage, and one of the joys of a vintage bag is not worrying about every scratch and mark. My rule is, if you have to enlarge your photo for us to see it here, don't worry about it! Use and enjoy your bag!

Thank you, @honhon and @catsinthebag for your reply.
But what I really wanted to know was if it is normal for the studs to stick out that much on the strap plates, because when I checked the strap plates on my Jypsiere and my B the studs are flush with the leather. Just wondering how the studs are on everyone else's bags.

Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to being able to purchase from Hermes, but I have loved the brand from afar for as long as I can remember. Thus far I have purchased a CDC, a rivale double tour, and an Evelyn. I have several more items on my list, but the absolute top, holy grail status item that I want is a Kelly Sellier 32 in a deep rich brown colored Fjord leather with ghw. I haven't even brought it up with my SA since it seems you have to build quite the relationship with them prior to gaining access to the Kelly's and Birkins, and it's still something that I am working on saving up for.

All that being said, what are the odds of getting the Kelly of my dreams from the boutique? I don't have any specific timeline, and it's worth the wait, but am I being realistic in my hopes of ever getting such a specific bag. For the price I would hate to settle on something that wasn't just right, but at the same time getting the bag from the boutique would be so special for me. And second question, is there a different leather in the Sellier style that I should consider that is similar to the Fjord? I love the veining that the Fjord sometimes has, but its not a deal breaker if that is not on the bag. I'm primarily looking for durability, and a leather that will hold it's shape well. My other thought was that Togo might be a good second choice. Thank you in advance for any thoughts!

Fjord leather has been rested and for Kelly Sellier, the most commonly available option is Epsom. Togo and Chevre are available mostly via special order. Sombrero and Box are also available for regular leathers but rarely and mostly as push stock. (Though Sombrero if I'm not mistaken might also be available for special order.) HTH. :flowers:

My Kelly doesn't do this, it would one thing if you scratched it, but you didn't. Have it looked at. My hardware has scratches from normal wear, so I don't worry about this kind of thing, but this seems like a repair might be in order!

Thank you for your reply @NikkisABagGirl.
I guess I will definitely need the metal plates to be replaced at some point.... It bothers me enough that I don't carry my Kelly that often, and the scratches are much deeper and pronounced when compared to my 5-year-old Jypsiere, which I don't use very cautiously. I wish I had checked the studs on the back when I was offered the bag. Then again, who knew this would happen, especially when I have never had such a problem with my other bags before.

Based on your first post you were saying that the bag is fairly new. If that's the case I think you can take it to your store and they will fix it for you for free. I have an older Kelly that I don't baby anymore but it doesn't have scratches like that from the studs. Also my strap hardware is still shiny not like what you are showing. Despite the scratches, your Kelly is still very lovely.

Thank you @odette57 for your reply. I really appreciate that you checked the studs on your bag for me.
My bag is 2 months young. Sadly, when I brought it to the store yesterday, they told me that it is normal for the studs to stick out, especially on a Kelly bag (This is my one and only Kelly, so I don't have another one to compare it to). As for the discoloration of the hardware clasps, they said that it is normal and it would be less visible on gold hardware. They did mention that if I want to have the plates and studs on the straps replaced that they will do it, but it will cost me, and they can not guarantee that the studs will not stick out again.
I am very disappointed with their response. The quality control for their bags must have been gone down hill if discoloration of the clasps and scratching caused by protruding studs are considered normal by Hermes standards nowadays.
