Giving TIPS to sales in order to get a BIRKIN?

As much as I love Hermes and their products, I am very disappointed in Hermes policy. It is well understood that there is a high demand and low supply in Bs and Ks, and Hermes tried to be exclusive and selective with their clients. In fact, the sad thing is they are actually helping those resellers to mark up the products and create a black market out there. I have witnessed in my own eyes a lot of resellers are going back and forth and are good friends of Hermes store managers. I don't blame resellers because it is their way of livings. I don't blame any SA because it's their job and they just do what they are trained to do. I don't envy anybody who have established a good relationship with their SAs. Sometimes, I wish I could write to Hermes corporate so that they can open their eyes and do something about it. Hermes is actually chasing away a lot of their true honest customers. But in the end I just realized how small I am as an individual and I just probably waste my time doing that as Hermes probably does not care. I also realized Hermes is out there serving really high end clients and that is what they have been established for.

very well said and absolutely truth

Just another reminder that this thread is about TIPPING and SAs. If you have issues about resellers, or anything else, please do a search and start another thread if necessary.

And, please, be respectful of one another and if you have an issue, either use the REPORT button or the IGNORE feature.

As I said before, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and you can express it respectfully anywhere in this subforum, but NOT if it takes a thread wildly off topic or if expressing your opinion includes running another person down or being disrespectful.

I hope everyone will take a moment and try to appreciate what we are trying to do here, which is keep this conversation open and on topic, and civil.

Please. We are going to have to close this thread if it isnt working.

Yes, I am well aware this thread is about tipping and SA. I don't take the thread wildly off topic at all. I by far understand that it is well possible that a person tip an SA to get a Birkin and I don't have anything against that. I don't have an issue about resellers either. I am not being disrespectful to Hermes. But it is all about Hermes have to look into it carefully and do something about it.

I wasnt addressing you in particular. i am sorry if it appeared I was. I just want to make sure this thread doesnt derail again. We have had to delete several posts. It is just a hot button issue, it seems.

I am so sorry for the misunderstanding. You know how much the purse forum means to me and how much I treasure each of you member's opinion? :smile1:

I've been buying Hermes for years now and have never heard of Hermes SAs accepting tips from customers, but I don't doubt it happens, despite the rules or disapproval by management. It's all about greed. The SAs who do it take advantage of desperate customers, and the customers are desperate to be a part of the exclusive club of Birkin/Kelly ownership.

I've also never been told I have to spend a certain amount in order to be considered for a Birkin, and this thread is the first I've ever seen or heard anything about it. From my understanding, SAs have been discouraged from saying such a thing, especially giving a specific dollar amount. Whether or not a Birkin can be ordered/purchased by a customer is totally at the discretion of sales staff. Sometimes, a SA will meet a customer and get a feeling (s)he will be loyal for many years, so that customer may be offered one from the back or even a PO or SO immediately.

I've also never seen a customer being turned down after requesting to buy a Birkin in the display case. I've seen many a customer simply point to one and whipping out their cc's to buy it 2 seconds later. I'm pretty sure a good amount of Birkin purchases have happened that way, including one of mine. In the US, I don't believe it's mandatory to sell a bag in the display case, but it's illegal to offer to sell to one customer and not another. In that case, the customer who wasn't allowed to buy could argue discrimination.

I am a SA at Bergdorf Goodman. It is well known that H does not pay well. I have 2 friends who worked at H and left to work at Chanel and close to double there paycheck. I know SA who take money at Madison H for Birkin/Kelly <special bags> and SA in New Jersey H store who take $.

Not surprised at all...I have not heard this directly but have heard SA's say there are ALOT of shady things going on all over.

Your profile says you are in SC ... no Bergdorf Goodman there?
