Retirement is hard even for us normals. You may love your spouse but still not want to be around them 24/7. Or you realize you don't have that much in common. Or you simply don't like each other anymore. Now imagine how much harder it is for two big egos considered to be tops in their field when they suddenly stop working at what made them famous, and several decades before most other people retire. Money certainly makes life easier, but it doesn't always buy happiness.
Or you love you job, you’re young enough to work and don’t want to retire. I’d hate to make my hubby retire if his heart didn’t want to.
Of course we don't know what goes on in private, but if I were in her position I'd have made the argument that he should have gone out on top, after his last SB win, instead of going out with a whimper after what could be a few mediocre seasons. Or worse, suffering a life altering injury. I realize it's difficult to tear yourself away from something that has consumed your life for most of it.
Victoria's Secret went into a huge spiral. She doesn't seem all that likeable. I don't know what job opportunities she missed. They are both rich and famous. Cry me a river

She knew who she was marrying and I feel like Football Wife is a lifestyle and a life of its own. Especially someone as high-profile as Tom Brady. May not be so simple for him to walk away from it when his identity is tied to it (as many men tend to do with their careers).

I believe these super ambitious alpha males need wives who will be happy as a SAHM without much support from them. They must manage the kids & home and do all that supportive football stuff. That’s probably easier to do for a regular woman who sees and enjoys the perks of that life than someone of Gisele’s fame and wealth.
I wish my brother could understand this. He wants to marry the most ambitious/ educated woman he can and convince her to quit and become a SAHM. It may work for a while but eventually one or the other will wind up resentful at the sacrifice.
True - look at Jay Cutler and Kristin Cavallari. Happily married for awhile, she was the SAHM. As soon as he was done with football, she launched her own company, but Jay still wanted her to be a SAHM. Whereas she wanted him to get his butt up and do something.
I don’t think Tom necessarily wants Gisele to be a SAHM though. The issue at hand is Gisele wanted him to be more present, devoting more time to her & the family instead of having his life and entire lifestyle revolve around football.
Wish this could have waited a few more months until he wins his next Super Bowl. I don’t see him playing his best knowing he’s headed for divorce. But then again who knows…maybe it’ll drive him to be even better. Tom is crazy lol (but I love him!)
Let’s be honest, both Tom and Gisele are raving egomaniacs. Their appeal to each other was how being together would enhance themselves. Now, many years later, perhaps one or both of them is starting to think there’s more to life.
