Ok, so this is my crappy photo booth picture taken at night :smile1: Anyhow, it is not a very high-end expensive anything watch... But I bet it's the watch that's been on Everest the most times :roflmfao:

I love it for its barometer and altimeter, use it a lot when hiking and in everyday life to predict the weather (ok I just outed myself as a complete outdoors-geek with a meteorological-fetish :D, but I can still love H can't I?)

The watch is a Suunto and not very stylish, but I love it!

Heeey, I was supposed to get DH a Suunto last Christmas! The one he wanted was actually too big for him at 50mm so we didn't get it  They are totally cool though!

Frannita, this could be just what you need? I took a couple of better shots of the Explorer in daylight (DH has gone back to wearing the Jaeger after a very brief spell back with the Exp 2 so I got it back, adjusted the bracelet etc)
This watch did originally have a black dial, and when the GMT came along, then the Jaeger it made no sense to have three black dial watches,so a Rolex watchmaker friend swapped it over for me........totally changed the look of the watch without going down the route of outlaying for a whole new watch.

Love it on you chaz!!! Your arms are so slim too, I'm jealous! :flowers:
I definitely want a bigger watch with a white dial, so it's this or the 49. I just wish that the Explorer had 3 timezone capabilities like the GMT 2!

-Does it wear off over time?

Chessmont, the links inbetween the ceramic 'tile' sections are pvd,and I have seen some very, very old Rado watches and the pvd seems perfectly intact with no trace of wear. The pvd is very hardwearing, its process of application seems to lend its self really well to be long lasting.I don't know about how it performs on the Rolex, the edge of the case etc that would naturally seem to take a lot of wear, but on the model of the Rado above,it seems to have a great longevity.

LOL!!! Gets on my nerves that my arms are so skinny sometimes!!
The Explorer has a second time function too,the red hand is it,sets the same way as the GMT,so you can set the time back home when you are going across time zones without having to re-set the whole watch......is that what you mean? Or have I mis-interpreted what you are saying???:flowers:

PVD, like all plating processes can wear off. Typically, and way more likely, is it can be scratched off when smacked against an abrasive surface, or repeatedly bumped in the same spot; think clunking it down on a nightstand over and over for a year or two.

However, it is not likely to be a HUGE problem, AND, you can always get it replated for a nominal fee.

Also, you can baby it like I do, and put it in a winder when not being worn :)

Hope that helps!

*EDIT* Keep in mind, high polish black PVD shows finger prints and smudges. Moreso than steel, IMO. If the PVD is a shiny, polished finish, and you hate seeing smudged watch bands, make sure you consider this before buying. Brushed coatings typically do not show fingerprints, smudges, etc...

Too big? There is no such thing!! :graucho: I absolutely love mine and would love for an X-Lander or Yachtsman one day with it's silver casing.

Tell him he's a wuss if he thinks its too big... :roflmfao: (I'm kidding of course )

Lady, your arms look great!
What I meant to say was that the bezel on the Explorer doesn't rotate, and thus can't be used as a 3rd time zone like on the GMT. The third time zone would follow military time or something. Do you know what I'm talking about though? I don't quite have a talent for explaining things clearly! :D

In any case that's just a bonus, I don't really need 3 time zones!

Now for you Bell & Ross lovers, they are coming out with a ladies model that is all ceramic, including the bracelet ala J12  Although this one with the strap looks adorable anyway!

LOL!! Frannita, you are very kind!! (my dh says I have arms like a sparrow!)

Ah,now I've got ya!!!! Yes,perfectly correct, the Explorers bezel is fixed, its 'mostly' diving watches that have a rotatable bezel.....in my experience anyway, there could be more that do....maybe Wired can drop in and give his advice? ( I was in the jewellery trade a very long time, but since my DD came along I have been out of it,and new things come along all the time so he is probably much more up to date on that kind of thing than me)

I worked with Bell and Ross for a while, would be interesting to see what their new ones will be like!

i've never heard of bell and ross, but i really like that white watch! very simple and cute.

btw, frannita or chaz, i've always wondered how that rotating bezel works? i mean, how do you use it to tell time in a different time zone?

LOL!!!! OMG!! I can't remember because I never use the function!! With the second time zone hand, the red one on the GMT and Explorer, you can set that to time where you are going if its forward or backwards of your home time zone, then you can leave the main time showing as your back home time...makes it easier if you need to make calls back home as you can see at a glance what the time difference is.(Also means you don't have to re-set your whole time display when you get there or get back home too)
The rotating bezel is normally for setting against time you have in air tanks when you are diving etc.

Funny,I can tell you how the gear train in a watch works, or a tourbillion etc,but the most simple function escapes me...lol!!

Hi!!! Oooo! Post pics when you get it!!! Would LOVE to see it!:smile1:

To use a GMT bezel (vs. a hand on the face) to tell time in a second zone, here is what you need to know.

Let's say it is 12PM in NY, and 9AM in LA. Your watch is set to NY time, so you have the hands clearly delineating that by pointing to the 12 o'clock position.

GMT function uses military time. So 0900 or "9" is 9AM. Simply rotate the bezel until the hour hand on the face (currently pointing to 12PM on the face) is pointing to the "9" on the bezel. Or in this instance, bring the "9" on the bezel to the 12 o'clock position.

As you will see, it shows 12PM on the face, and 9AM on the bezel. Face of the watch = NY TIME. Bezel = LA TIME. You have set the correct time in 2 zones! Congrats! :yahoo:

Now, as the day progresses, say it is now 3PM NY time, you will notice that the hour hand is pointing to "3" on the face of the watch, but a "12" on the bezel. This is because now it is Noon in LA, and 3 in NY. No other adjustment is needed as time is constant.

You can do this for any time zone shift. Simply remember the numbers on the bezel are your hours in the day, in military time. Minutes need not be adjusted as they are constant.

If your watch has a longer hand on the face for the GMT function, and numbers for the military time, it works the same way. You will just need to pop the crown to adjust the GMT hand for the second zone. Again, minutes stay the same.

Hope this helps!:D
