Gaffers Tape, Plasti-Dip, Sole Protectors and More: The Red Sole Project

Will that do the trick?

What is the likely hood of it ripping off the red?

Not sure about that one. Gaffer tape is gaffer tape....i guess. Stilly uses a particular one from amazon. I use one from a hardware store i think its bear brand. Anyway when i pull it off slowly it does not remove the red underneath (removed it today) and lasted a few uses.
Obviously when you go on gravel or uneven surfaces it will still indent the sole but still a cheaper alternative than placing topy but then again i dont wear mine so often ($70 as opposed to $4)

Is this your tape in the UK Amazon, Stilly?

Yes that's the correct Gaffers Tape Rgambles.

It's different than duct tape and you should be able to peel it off without taking off the red paint on the soles.

The tape is only made for light wearing of your CL's however. If you're going to wear your CL"s a lot, I'd recommend getting the red rubber Vibram soles applied by a cobbler.

Thankyou!

They're for light, indoor use only!

It's hard to tell from the picture and description if this tape would work.

The Gaffers Tape I us is fabric tape and the red is almost a perfect match. It also peels off without removing the red paint which is critical. You could always try this tape and do a little "trial and error" but be careful...

On the following link which tape is it that you use?

Is it the tape entitled: "Dull Finish / Gaffers Tape"

Sorry for being a pain!

I reckon its the dull finish gaffers tape that you pointed out
The rest are pretty much duct tape.
Like stilly suggested order it and do a trial and error. For reference i use this one but mine is not a perfect match but holds up well.

Yes I tried the shiny as well and the color doesn't quite match. I also found the shiny tape to be slippery if you wear it out in the rain or on polished wood or tile floors. Falling in CL's is the worst...

There are so many great tips on how to protect your soles!

I don't know if anyone has already asked this, but can old rubber soles be removed and replaced? I bought some boots second-hand but I want to swap the textured rubber soles with something smoother. Has anyone had experience with their cobbler saying they can't do it?

I'm betting the red rubber soles can be removed and replaced but I'd only recommend bringing them to a cobbler that has worked on CL's in the past.
