I overheard another conversation last weekend at the outlet when I was up by the checkout counter.

A women was returning a black and gray sig mff hobo. The SA asked why she was returning it and she said "My husband said that it looks too much like my other bag and I should get something different" Then she holds up the bag she is carrying and it was also a black gray sig mff hobo but a slightly different style and with a smaller C pattern.

The SA responded "Oh no! I think those 2 bags look very different!" I was tempted to say "Oh brother, who are kidding? I totally agree with the husband here!" and I wanted to say to the customer "So go a little crazy and get yourself a brown khaki sig mff hobo this time!"

But it wasn't my business so I didn't say anything. I just smirked quietly to myself! :sneaky:

Male perspective.....

Before I was really into Coach, I bought a few replicas - legitimate replicas, sold by a couple of sisters in my Curves (womens exercise studio) group. (I say legal, because they researched, and as long as they didn't have Coach hangtags, or creeds, they were legal to sell - at least in CA). They were all $40 - be it signature, or leather.
Kids in school..... so $500 bags were out of the question, at the time.

Then along came a Hampton Satchel I just had to have. First day carrying it, I came home, put in on the dining room table as I usually do, until I take it upstairs after dinner. My 23 year old son walks by it, comes into the kitchen and asked "How much did you pay for that?"...... I replied "$40....just like the rest of them". His reply -"bull - it's a REAL one"...... I asked how he knew - he said because " it didn't look cheap, like the rest of them". Hmmmmm...... my thoughts were wondering how a guy knew - let alone a son, who's only interests seemed to be in girls, baseball and football. Ssshhhhhhh.... don't tell Dad! Hence the reason I pick up an occasional card case, wallet or shaving bag for him. Our little secret. My husband is clueless how much a Coach handbag costs - doesn't know, doesn't want to know.

ETA: My husband is an avid sports fan. 49er season tickets for 30+years. Anytime a new handbag is delivered - he gives me the look. i just say "......season tickets......."

You son is a smart guy! Before I knew better I once bought a fake Kate Spade from a street vendor. I was thrilled with it but it started to fall apart pretty quickly. And once you have had a good bag there's no going back!

I was carrying my Anna Sui Dragon Fly duffle in my local Coach store and one of the SA that I was familiar with said, "oh see that bag you have? It is quite similar in shape and size to our new Duffle bag!" She didn't have a clue until I said it was a Limited Edition Anna Sui bag for Coach...I think at the end of that she was still not convinced it was a Coach. But's it funny when we tPFer's give some SA's 'lessons' on their products....;)

Once when I was in Macy's at the Coach counter I said to the SA "Please let me see that Kristin clutch." She looked at me in surprise and said in a shocked voice "Miss! These are all Coach bags!"

:roflmfao:

Once when I was at the outlet, I was looking at all the deletes and overheard a conversation between another customer, her friend, and an SA. The one girl was telling the other two how she hated shopping for bags because she just really didn't care about them and kind of wished she did care. All I could think was "wow I wonder what that's like".

Lol! I remember when I didn't. My bank account misses those days. Fell in love with one when I was 18 and tumbled down the rabbit hole. She ought to be careful for what she wishes, but I wouldn't change a bag.

I once had SA at the outlet arguing with me that coated canvas tote (it was in man department don't recall the name, I really wanted to buy for travels but it was too expensive for not being leather), she argued that it is ALL leather it is just being coated with something so it doesn't appear so. She was very young and looked lost. I kept pointing a t a trim that is leather but the rest was all fabric, nice and thick but still fabric. Then I gave up.

My sister-in-law is this way, she never shops and doesn't know what is what, I almost envy her.

I bought her dressy Coach wristlet that actually was like a purse it was Madison patent with silver chain, she didn't even understand what that was, I am like OK why did I bother, I now almost wish i kept that wristlet for myself

Haha, men can tell. My hubby will look at a new bag of mine and know (without seeing tags, siggy print, etc) which ones are Coach. The "department store knock arounds" I have to him "look cheap. That's not real leather. The circle things are plastic." Etc.
That being said, I shop for vintage bags at my local thrift stores and was looking at their $50+ collections of fakes as were a couple other women. One says "Oh this one's got to be real, it's expensive". I was able to, fortunately, show her why it wasn't. At the same shop, I picked up an Authentic Hamilton Patchwork tote for $18.00 hanging with their cheapy section. Lol. I can't believe people use the " but I paid $50 for it, it must be real" line. Sigh....

I just had a good one at work.

Male coworker: "Is that a Coach purse?"
Me: "Yes"
Male: "I'd never buy my wife a Coach purse" (said as if it's the height of expensive)
Me: "Well good thing I don't have to rely on a man to buy me sh!t."

My DBF can as well. He's learned about designers through listening to me, but could tell high quality from before, looking at evenness of stitching, no loose threads, symmetry, etc. I think it comes from looking at the nice baseball gloves as a kid...
