Thank you thank you THANK YOU @fettfleck and everyone in this thread for writing about Frrry! I drooled over your pictures and descriptions, checked out frrry's site and social media, emailed Ferry, and got the Wednesday and the Berry.

Ah. May. Zing. leather and design!! I just want to continuously look at and pet my new bag and pouches.. they are so soft and smell so great and feel so substantial.

Love frrry's thoughtful designs and wonderful details. I'm definitely a fan of his work and considering the Book Bag in Soil next!

Thanks again everyone :)

Thank you all for this thread! I saw @Pollie-Jean ’s post today in “What Handbag/Purse are You Carrying Today,” and I had to start searching. Arrgg, a new leather obsession. I’m thinking of either Moon or Owl in Rock, Owl looks smooshier to me, but I like the zipper closure on Moon.

I know right? I was blown away and impressed with how speedy the whole thing was. While he made the bag in basically a day, there was no compromise with the finish and craftwork. I didn’t really expext it would make it in time for my vacation and thought I’d have my Frrry just waiting for me when I get back but I’m actually carrying it today, a day before my overseas trip.

Here’s a pic of me with my Cube. I’m a shortie and put the strap at its longest so I can carry it crossbody too. I just wanted a fun small bag to carry daily essentials/for running around. I will get a medium size bag next for work like fettfleck as my next Frrry.

Almost a year later and I find myself slowly getting interested in the Cube. It’s so quirky and cute, you just know you won’t find this style anywhere else. The only thing is that I don’t know how it looks when worn crossbody. The style seems a bit rigid and doesn’t soften as much. Do you think it sticks out from your body a lot due to its more-structured shape? And does the folding leave a crease?

I’m currently thinking of the crayon version

Also, if you don’t mind sharing, is there anything that you don’t like about the bag?

TIA :flowers:

I haven't bought the Cube from Frrry but, I've made this bag a couple of times and tested them before I gave them away, so I can give you some idea until you get your actual answer.

If the measurements are standard, that bag will be around 5 inches wide, so worn crossbody, it sticks out from the body a fair bit. I usually like slimmer profile bags (2 inches wide is my preference), so this was weird for me. It sits straighter when carried on the shoulder and I expect that's the more comfortable way to carry it for most people.

As for rigidity and creasing, it depends on the leather he's using. Almost all of them will have a crease line where it collapses but, it's not noticeable as the leather softens with use. One of mine was made of suede, and while the bag didn't crease when flattened because suede is smooshy anyway, it did totally slouch at the bottom when it was filled. It looked a bit like the bottom of a Pandora (you know how it's box-like when it's unused and then slouches when it's actually broken in?- like that). Looked just as interesting and cool as ever, though, so it wasn't a negative for me. I imagine this sort of slouching is less obvious with veg tan leathers or a bit of reinforcement that he will be using.

Hope this is a little helpful but, of course, the actual answer from someone who owns this specific model will be the proper insight you need. :flowers:

I adore his bags and must thank you for introducing me to the brand. I'm on a strict no-buy for a while but, when I do add one it will have to be one of his.

This is so helpful, thank you dear @jblended ! Nothing beats having someone who has actually made these bags to offer feedback!! And I must say, the recipients of your bags are incredibly lucky :flowers:

I’m not too overly concerned with 5 inch width, since my few frrry bags are all 4.5-5 inches wide so I’ve got experience with this width of crossbodies. That being said, all my frrry bags are also more slouchy compared to this “crayon” leather, which seems a bit rigid as far as this one photo shows (he only has one photo of this bag in his “crayon” leather up on this website). A 5 inch wide slouchy crossbody looks quite different from a 5 inch wide structured crossbody, if you know what I mean. I’m not overly concerned with the crease from the collapse, but it’s a nice-to-know. And I’m glad you mentioned the bottom, I haven’t thought of the fact that the bottom might slouch due to the entire structure, good thing you brought it up. If I do end up ordering this bag, I’ll ask frrry to enforce the bottom a bit.

Your suede version of the Cube bag sounds AMAZING I’m getting heart eyes

I’ve been on a no-buy period for a good 9-10 months now but have a Europe trip coming up, and suddenly thought of this wonderful indie designer from Netherlands as I decide what bags to bring  I wanted to bring a more unique bag not found in department stores since it’s not everyday I get to go to Europe!

I'm excited for your upcoming trip! Totally agree that a Frrry bag would be the icing on the cake for the visit!:giggle:
I love this design, tbh. It holds a lot for its size, in my experience. A lot like a mini Pandora or Puzzle bag in terms of functionality. Mine didn't have the top handles, but those certainly make it even more functional.

I wonder if you would be able to contact him directly about the crayon leather? He's handling it so would be able to tell you if it's as rigid as you imagine from the picture. He may have more pics available as well, which he hasn't posted.

And thank you for your kind words, dear @afroken! Hope you will post about your trip upon your return!

So sorry I couldn’t reply until now. Work has taken over my life and haven’t had much time for tPF until tonight.

My Cube has softened a bit, as predicted by Ferry when he made it for me. I know his preference for this style is his usual pebbled leather but he indulged me because he was curious himself how it would turn out. There is mild creasing but not enough to say that it looks bad. I don’t even really notice it. I’m really happy with it and glad it’s part of my fun bags. When carried crossbody, it sticks out so I carry mine more as a handheld bag and only use the strap (as a shoulder bag) strictly when I need to be hands-free.

I hope you do consider the Cube in crayon. I think the fun colours suit this little bag. Not sure if the Crayon is similar to his natural vegetable tanned leather but he will tell/advise you if it is. Still soft but just more structured.

I am still very interested in getting a Collapse Eve and hopefully, I can make it happen maybe by mid-year. Just gotta stop looking at vintage Bals so I don’t get distracted. Haha

@Norm.Core and @jblended , thank you so much for your insight! Ferry should pay you to advertise for him

@jblended I don’t know why I kept sitting on my hands before contacting Ferry! Because like you said, the designer really is the most knowledgeable about his products. I think it must have been because I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to buy the bag and therefore didn’t want to make things awkward for him in case I don’t buy. In the end I thought he would understand and probably would want all his buyers to be 100% satisfied with his products! I’ve sent him an email with my questions, will post back when he responds!

You’ve been so helpful @Norm.Core ! Thank you for all the details and valuable review of your Cube. You’ve increased my interest in this style. I’ve finally emailed Ferry and will report back so that anyone else who may be interested in the Crayon leather can learn more about it. I’m so glad your veg tanned Cube is serving you well. I bet no one else in your area have seen anything even remotely as fun as this bag

I look forward to seeing your Collapse Eve here soon! Totally understand the Bal obsession. Bal and The Row will always be my first love in bags :giggle:

I have purchased the crayon Cube and this is what Ferry told me about this leather before I made my purchase:

For the Crayon leather: the leather itself isn’t super rigid. It’s really quite nice to the touch. Only the sides of the bag, where all the layers are stitched together is quite rigid. But that helps to make the folding happen neatly. The rest of the bag is soft enough to wear it comfortably.
I have ordered this type of leather only once, so I haven't seen any pieces that have been used very long. But my experience with this tannery is very good and whenever buying printed leather, I scratch it a lot to see how well it’s done. Sometimes it’s laminated, and those prints come off too easily. I couldn’t get any off in this type of leather.
The print itself is already quite a bit irregular, to get a real crayon effect.

At some point I plan on buying the Mini Moon but I’m still undecided about the colour, not to mention zero purse funds. I look forward to see @Norm.Core ‘s Collapse Eve when you’re ready to make the purchase!

Found this company through this forum and went to the website. Oh no. I love EVERYTHING.
I meant to just order the Berry wallet and leather samples. Really I tried to behave. Wait until I get the samples and THEN make a decision. That's the smartest plan.

Sigh.

I ordered the Berry and the samples (good... according to plan), and the A4 paper white wallet (no, no, that wasn't part of the plan), and the Owl in soft gold (ACK! what am I doing? I said I was going to wait!).

But it isn't my fault! The Owl is too pretty and I NEED a soft gold purse because my last one (that I wore forEVER and loved so much) started peeling because it wasn't real leather (and my handbag wardrobe - like my heart - has had a soft-gold hole in it ever since). This company's products ARE real leather so the color shouldn't peel. And I anticipate that the Owl's shapes and folds will beautifully showcase the soft gold leather color and material. I mean, when you think about it, it was SMART of me, really, right? Right?

So thanks (I think) to you good folks who shared this artist. I'll post a picture of my goodies once they come in. I'm really looking forward to receiving them. And I think I can resist anything else until I get the color samples. I think. Probably. Almost definitely. Oh boy. Fingers crossed. :P
