Slightly different view, so I’ll add it in here. I like to travel in first when I can, but I can’t afford it with international flights (especially when my justification for the trip is that the airfare is less than what I’ll get back from VAT). My style is still the same though. I’ve had a lady offer me a seat at the gate after she gave me a once over and noticed my bag. I’m sure there’s some who judge for the worse, but they’d probably do that anyways.
The one thing that I do change is my actual carryon and only because I’ve been stuck in the rows where the overhead bins are all filled up by the time you get to your seat. If I know there’s a chance of a checked in carry on, then I’ll opt for a sturdy Rimowa instead of a luxury carryon.
