Wow, that is a great result! Amazing job and she looks fantastic!

I'm so scared that I will ruin a bag if I try to rehab it, but all these threads are making me want to give it a shot.

I advise a dark-colored, unlined, glove-tanned leather bag that is in pretty decent condition as a first rehab project. Good luck.

Here's a tip: If you have an electric toothbrush, save one of your old brushheads to use for cleaning stuff like jewelry and handbag fixtures. Just remember to switch back afterwards!:p

I am also looking at this same bag to rehab but it is missing the long strap....any ideas on where to get one??
Unfortunately the straps often cost more than the bag if, like a lot of us, you pay very little to buy older scuffed bags to do rehab work on. There is an ebay seller called SilverCoach who sells replacement straps. Old used ones on ebay are often over priced as well :yucky:

Yes SilverFoach also sells replacement other parts too.

Doesn't Coach sell them anymore? I think they used to.

Someone mentioned Futz metal cleaner. I love this stuff and always have a bottle in the house. Comes in handy for lots of stuff, from cleaning kettle bottoms in the kitchen to polishing brass door knobs and handles. In addition to polishing up the hardware on old Coach bags. Indispensable.

I use the Brasso for anything brass and we have Tarnex for anything silver ot steal. All tarnish is on silver is the metal oxidizing and I think the Tarnex just removes that... Never hurts to always try a tiny and I mean tiny bit on the underside of a piece to see how it works..

I hope that helps some! Let me know please what you decide. :-)
Thanks for the info, I will try it sometime. The latch I had darkening responded well to a soft cloth, just rubbing, not gone, but way better. Your bag is looking great, enjoy! What did DH do to get the hardware shinier? just more rubbing?

I was told you can call for a replacement strap from Coach. :-)

Lmao! Sorry.. The more rubbing made me laugh with my dirty mind!
But YES! Literally more rubbing. He told me that it could get shiner and that I would not believe him and he could prove it. So of course I said sure go ahead show me!

We sat for an hour watching a show and polished and polished and at the end of the hour lO and behold it was shiner.

When he was younger he was in ROTC and they had a lot of brass to polish. Things had to shine literally. So I learned something new. Lol

Has anyone tried toothpaste? In general it makes a great jewelry polish. I've never specifically tried it on my brass coach hardware but if you're "rubbing, rubbing" with a soft cloth I bet it will help.

I like Wenol metal polish, I find it works well on any metal, not just brass. I buy it on ebay and you only use a little at a time. I've just used used my "ebay bucks" to buy a new tube.

Interestingly enough, I just wandered into the garage looking for something to clean spots on a rug and found some Brasso that I forgot I had. It could have come with my house which would make it really old, or maybe I bought it (I'm kinda old and forgetful myself) or maybe my husband bought it and I never knew we had it-thus I didn't forget! (YAY)

But I was thinking that some people who aren't professional rehabbers like you might get a wild hair and decide to shine up the brass while they watch Mad Men, could grab a soft cloth and some tooth paste and might have shiny brass before Joan sleeps with Don!

On an unrelated note, I also found some baseball glove conditioner which made me go "hmmm...".
