Let me start by saying I am super excited, giddy in fact about this rehab.
I scored this baby this year on eBay and never used her yet. She would make a great cross body / hand held bag. She is a great size, perfect in fact.
I just got into designer bags last year.

I have been following a thread on TPF about rehabbing vintage bags. (when I get into my Mac I will reference the thread)

After much reading I decided I wanted to learn how to do this myself. I love leather and this would be a great project.

She Coach Station bag was purchased in the early 90's. This lady was clearing out her stash of a ton of bags. I scored this one for 40 bucks.

I do have photos of the full front of the bag on my computer and I will add those later.

To start here are some before pics and I will keep adding so you can see the after shots..

I just started today.

So.. Pics of the area inside and outside of the bag. All leather no lining.

In the above photos you can see the brass has turned green and inside of the leather too where the brass touched.

There was some residue inside the bag. Not a ton but enough that I decided to give her a bath.

So a tub with warm to slightly hot water with 2-3 pumps of dish soap.

I let it soak for an hour.

And hour later and with a scrubbing brush look what happened!!!

Whoa!!! Talk about a much needed scrubbing behind the ears!!! And if you look into the water you will see all the Nasty McNastiness green goo floating about homeless...

So.. I emptied out all the soapy water and she is doing a soak rinse!!

More to come!!

Thank you. I am really excited to get on with the nest stage, but I have to wait several hours...
what are you doing next, I assume, after it dries?? or what. Also, last month I purchased on ebay a vintage black coach willis, to wear crossbody and am loving it tons. So much, I may get the new version of it when I find the red at a good price. Love those old vintage leather coach and dooneys

I would love an older City Willis. I love that long shape. I found one, but the seller did not want to post more pics to authenticate.

Next I have some cloth and some Brasso to polish the brass to a nice shine, and then leather conditioner to make it nice and soft again!

If I do not get to it tonight, then most likely tomorrow.

Now she is drying and I am sure that will take a few hours...

Here was the link I referenced to help me with this!

Thank you! ^^^

Try a paste of white vinegar and baking soda (ketchup consistency) to remove the green off the metal if some didn't come off in the bath. I used qtips (or a wooden cuticle/orange stick used for manicures twirled in a cotton ball which makes a nice tiny qtip to work with and is re-usable with a fresh piece of cotton each time.) Luckily your bag is dark so the verdigris stain against leather won't show I don't think). Brasso works fine for just the tarnish alone. I use Wrights brass polish also.

Thanks for the tip...

I just gave a bath to a vintage cross body hobo bag. After reading about it here and the bag was in such bad shape, I figured I had nothing to lose. After she dried and I conditioned, the leather is incredible! I'm totally hooked on vintage Coach now! Can't wait to see your progress!

How do you clean up the brass that is spotty? My station bag has the same yellow-y crusty looking patchy spots but I don't have any of the green. I just want to clean up the brass without having to spend money on brasso or any other product that I won't have any need for after this bag.

I'm going to try this I think...It sounds better than all the other alternatives out there...like actual ketchup (barf no thanks)
