First Rehab Ever- Vintage Coach Station Bag

Be careful and don't let it dry in an odd shape ... let it dry in the shape it's supposed to be - because once it dries (and too, don't stretch the leather) it will BE in that shape ...

This is SO GORGEOUS! For all my leather knowledge and crafting I never knew you could give a bag a bath!!!

Me neither? I re-read the post a few times to see if I read correctly!

You can't give a bath to every leather bag, I recently picked up a natural leather Kooba hobo at the thrift store as a rehab project, but I can't get it wet because that will ruin the leather. So do some research before you dunk your bag.

But many of the the vintage, unlined, glove-tanned Coach bags just come back to life with a bath and a little TLC. Check out some of the posts at the link below:

Warning! Rehabbing is a lot of fun but it's addictive!

Ok.. Updates!!

Anyone ready?

Here are the pics from my cell phone and I'll explain in a few.

But she is all done!!!

Ready? I am excited. Tons of pics.

Ok.. so .. as I used the brass first once it was properly dry. As IndiaInk suggested I did lay my bag down flat and reshaped it so it would not dry funny.

I tried to show some of the new shiny pics with the brasso, I even did the little ball and chain.

So you can see the comparison pics, the hook to the left has NO brasso and the one on the right has been brasso cleaned... YAY!

Then on the photo right beneath it, both hooks have been cleaned and shiny. Can you spot the difference?

I also vacuumed out the inside to make sure it was free of any lingering dust bunnies.

I used a Q-Tip to get in between the top handle and got the rest of the nasty green gunk out of there. Buh bye...

Then I did the leather conditioner which was fun. You can see the life and color literally return.

I tried to take a few pics outside in the real sunlight as you can see.

Then in the bathroom in all her full tallness... then I added a nice shiny new hand tag which I got from Coach a lone while ago. So she has both tags on. I also clipped away any stray hairs and threads that I saw.

I also took a photo of a brand new ball and chain along with the cleaned one.
The new one is on top.

So, now I have her filled with a few simple things to go shoe shopping later.
Wallet, keys, small wallet and coin purse, plus my phone.

She is all ready.

I decided to remove the scarf, she is so pretty all on her own.

I am very happy for my 1st one.

I shall wear her proudly today!

Thanks for watching!

Excellent job!! Your Station bag is classicly lovely and I am sure will give you many more years of service. Enjoy her

Thank you!

I showed my DH and he thought I did a great job. Then he told me I could even get the brass shiner. I said - no freakin way.. He say - waaaay...

So he proved it and see for yourself.

The first one is the before photo and the last are the after...

Here is the kicker - he says it can get even shiner and brighter and smoother than this! Whoa!

Beautiful job! I have tried to decorate my vintage bags but I usually end up leaving them plain, they just better IMO!

It seems like you can never get the brass as shiny as you'd like. I recently got a dremel hand power tool and it does a great job polishing metal!

Wow, that is a great result! Amazing job and she looks fantastic!

I'm so scared that I will ruin a bag if I try to rehab it, but all these threads are making me want to give it a shot.
