Oh, I see...so, is it legal in the US to copy protected French designs?
yes, as long as you don't try to pass them off as that particular brand. If you call it Louise Buitton, it would be legal.

Fake: No

Inspired: ...Maybe. It depends on how inspired the bag really is. But the thing that really gets me about the whole 'inspired' thing - is that lots of designers kind of copy designs off of eachother. I personally don't like Dooney & Bourke, but their whole collection with the multiple colored DBs was a total "inspiration" from Louis Vuitton's MC Line. Same thing with DB's Denim Line.

I guess it's all how you really look at it - who had the design first?

As long as it doesn't look EXACTLY like another bag, it's cool for me. Take for example the Christian Dior saddle bags. I like the fact that the strap has CD in metal (I believe) on it. If another company were to make a bag in a different shape - but with their initials in metal on the strap...Would that be considered inspired? Who knows...

I bought a Sachi bag because I really liked the shape and leather and a couple of months later the Chloe Paddington became HUGE and everyone carried one and I realised that my Sachi bag was *inspired* by the Paddington.

As soon as I realised that I sold it on eBay.

Fake or inspired bags are NOT for me.

fake-no. just because personally i would feel funny like i'm trying to be cool or something. i'd rather buy a no-name than buy a fake.

inspired-depends. there are many bags that are 'inspired' from different brands. even big premier designer bags are sometimes inspired from other premier designers. i guess it depends on quality, and the look.

No for fake. Carrying a fake makes you look like you just want to be like everyone else and you have no knowledge. Before I knew anything about fashion/bags(like 10 years old), I bought a fake Coach. I didn't even know what Coach was back then. Then when I got into fashion, I realized I had a fake. I gave it away. For an inspired bag, I don't know. For example, Liz Claiborne makes a bag that looks like Bottega Veneta, so I guess that's inspired and that's okay to me. But a bag that has the same colors as a LV monogram bag, but it doesn't have the LV's on it, I would say no, because it just looks silly to me.

No fakes here! Personally, if I can't have a real one because it is too expensive I would rather not have one at all. I don't understand why people would want fakes, it takes all the thrill and greatness out of owning a real one, makes them much less special. Do people really need designer bags that badly that they would be willing to purchase a fake? My motto is just save up!

I have bags which I believe might be designer inspired but have no idea who inspired them. If I figured out who the mastermind was then I would buy their version. Not everyone is as knowledgeable in the fashion world.

Good point! I have a big leather bag by Liz Claibornes that I bought because it was sturdy enough to carry a huge laptop and the right color to wear with brown shoes.

Recently I saw the Hogan bag that it is "inspired" by, and yes the Hogan is much nicer, but I would not spend $825 on a bag to carry on the metro, or through airports and that I know will spend a lot of time sitting on the floor.

I say it's every woman for herself, easier said than done, I had an opportunity to buy a fake hermes birkin for $500, and did, I already have a real one, I was kind of pissed off at how good the fake one looked compared to my authentic one. Now I can take my fake hermes to the beach, I would never do that with my real one. So I think that while we're waiting to receive the real deal, why not buy a good fake in the meantime. Please don't attack me for saying this.

I have a few fake bags from before I was really into designer bags, but I can't even wear them because I feel bad about it now, and I don't want to buy them anymore. Basically, they would only ever see the light of day if I'm going to the movie theater or somewhere dirty that I don't want to take my real bags.

I think it's fine to buy inspired bags though. Sometimes you like the style of a purse, but it's not absolutely perfect for you to the point that you could spend $1000 on it (especially if you're not rich). I mean, I was looking at an "inspired" Marc Jacobs bowler on lushfashions.com, and I didn't see anything wrong with it because it's not like it tried to be the actual designer.

Just my two cents. :smile1:

No fakes - No inspired.

What other people do with their money is their business. But I didnt spend $$$ on my bags not to USE them. If I am going to the beach/baseball game/amusement park/skiing or any other place where I would worry about excessive damage then I bring one of my tried and true Coach bags.

and thats my .02 on it....:flowers:

I would say i definitely would not wear a fake bag because for those that buy the real thing it look extremely tacky to see a replica when you know what the real thing looks and feels like. They just don't compare.
