I also have a heads up regarding sombrero leather based on my own experience that I think might be useful in case someone is thinking about ordering a sombrero Kelly.
I took my vert bronze sombrero (aka black) K25 out for dinner with friends and after some glasses of wine I kinda forgot to take proper care of her.:whut: Next morning I’ve noticed some white scratches, nothing deep, more like some dusty scratches. So I grabbed a leather wiper and cleaned her very, very carefully.
At first I was very happy with the result. The marks and scratches were all gone and the bag looked even more beautiful. However, after a couple of days, it became stained and rough, as if I’ve had removed her finishing. :panic:
I went to the store and talked to my SA, but didn’t bring her, just showed some pics. Everyone’s opinion was that I had probably removed the finishing.
Well...put it away and left it for a couple of weeks until I felt stronger to take her to the spa. :crybaby:
Then, one day, before finally parting with her, I decided to rub it with a soft cloth that I use to polish my shoes. And I rubbed and I rubbed, and I rubbed and after a really strong rubbing session, it was all gone!
The only difference is that now she looks a little bit more vert bronze than before.

Before trying any products on Sombrero, try rubbing with your fingers first. The natural oil of your hands help buff light scratches out.

This Kelly is a beautiful color and sombrero leather. I am
Very interested to know if you have an update on her condition, care and maintenance, please.

Just picked up a Route H Sombrero. Reading this thread has me totally terrified. LOL. I am not sure I have the stomach for this leather. I sold a Box about 5y ago because within a week I started seeing scratches on it, and I am pretty darn careful with my bags.
Beautiful and classy bag. Congratulations. Sombrero will not scratch instantly, but you will certainly see superficial scratches after some time. They will blend in but it takes some patience. They cannot simply be rubbed out immediately. Just make sure that if you wear the bag close to your body, don‘t have anything like belt hardware, buttons etc stick out as it might leave marks on the leather (had this happen to a bag which I usually wear cross-body).

hope you see my post above :tup:602265FE-1A8F-411F-BB27-55D2439B0EDB.jpeg

This bag is several years old. I bought it pre-owned, and you can not really see any scratches on it, although you see a few fingerprints because I have not dusted it in awhile and I store it on an open shelf without a dust bag. Now that I think about it, I am going to dust her with a soft rag and give her the attention she needs.

Your bag is simply amazingly gorgeous! It looks brand new. Thanks for sharing re your storage method. Sombrero may be hardier than what we expect with smooth leathers.

Recently I was offered a Kelly in black Sombrero, which Hermes has named Sombrero II (aka 2). I have a Constance Cartable in Blue Obscure Sombrero, when the Cartable was first rolled out. For ease of reference, let’s call this Sombrero 1. My immediate observation of the Kelly is that Sombrero 2 has a coating on it which makes it shinier than Sombrero 1, which is comparatively more velvety. The shine is nothing like a Box patina but it is shinier or more reflective than Sombrero 1.

I love smooth leathers with Box being at the top. As with all smooth leathers, scuffs and scratches are inherent and omnipresent with usage, That said, it is almost impossible to get a brand new Box bag from my local store. And let’s not even talk about Barenia. Sombrero seems to be the next best thing. I think it is special, beautiful and elegant. More so after seeing the gorgeous Sombrero bags of fellow members here. Yes, I may have to be more careful but when a bag is that gorgeous, it is worth it.

Do you know when the "new" version of sombrero was introduced?
