just beware it's not a workhorse type of leather........could get very scratchy

yes, i have been told this will scratch like crazy... not sure if the scratches are like on boxcalf where it can be rubbed off and develop patina though...

i suppose on SLG it should be okay.. but on larger items...

Hi ladies! Can someone tell me the difference between cigar and barenia? I have read that cigar is slightly lighter and has a similar powdery finish and was recently released in 2012(?).

Does anyone have experience that they can share regarding how it ages/durability compared to barenia? Does it get darker or develop patina? What about rain and watermarks or blisters? Is it more or less scratch resistant than barenia? And can scratches be buffed out or are they more permanent? I am trying to decide between cigar sombrero which is a lovely color and holding out for barenia. Thanks!

Loving the look of the sombrero and will venture a guess that it feels velvety.
Perfume girl: me thinks we may shop at the same h and I have been nagging, pleading for a bit now for a barenia Kelly or 30 b. Not happening even via SO, bummer news.

While I love the smooth, matte finish of veau sombrero, in my experience it scratches much more easily than box. I haven't had the sombrero long enough to see a patina start to develop, but considering how delicate this leather is, I hope it does.

I have a Ulysse in Sombrero and it's gorgeous but it's delicate. I would say that, like Barenia, you have to be very ok with scratches and spots, but it doesn't really have that "I'm a saddle" look that makes the spots ok. I doubt I would take a bag in it either.

Hi Jmen - I am in DC area so shop somewhat infrequently at Tyson's, which I find quite limited when it comes to the items that are in high demand, which never seem to get to me. So, I have other SAs that I work with for in Seattle and Hawaii, but it is hard to coordinate leather purchases because of my infrequent travels there. Where are you located?

Thanks for your input Aficianada, Lulilu, and QuelleFromage. I think I am going to pass on the sombrero and wait for the barenia. or, maybe I will go for a gold swift bag and a smaller cdc in the barenia to match the look. I think I would be ok with minor scratches and ones that fade over time, but I was suspicious of how the sombrero would wear in the long run.

Good luck! I know that I am being told no orders in Barenia this year, and even in Paris they were complaining about low availability. I think Barenia is best found in the reseller world right now. I'm passing my BBK on to a new home and that may transmute itself into a Barenia bag :D

I moved out of the DC area awhile back and am north of the region by 1.5 hrs. I do shop at H when I come to the land of chaos. I used to do phone orders via Seattle but since the do not ship leather goods, it is either Tysons or Cuffs in the Cleveland area. There is a thread about Cuffs; it is not a franchise so they can do what they want as far as shipping. You know the H in Tysons will be moving to DC sometime next year, which may be a good thing for you -- easier to pop in.

Thank you for the tip re Cleveland. If you are in DC, let me know and I would be happy to help you shop (I mean for you of course :graucho:) at the H boutique.

I did visit the CDC thread the other day, but today, both CDCs that I wanted popped up on H.com! So, Christmas present for the sister in law and one for myself in the mail.

Thanks QuelleFromage. I am ok hunting passively until I find the one I absolutely want, since I am trying to lay low with orange boxes.

My Constance Cartable is veau sombrero (color: Bleu Obscur. This picture is not a good representation of the color.). I really like this leather and haven't had any trouble with it.

That is a gorgeous Constance. I would love to have one some day in a natural colored leather. My SA says that sombrero is not that high maintenance except when wet (but that part is true of many other leathers). Do you wear yours often?

Hi and thanks, Perfumegirl01. I've worn mine about 5 times (i got it very recently). I'm always careful to keep it away from water, and if i do get a drop of water on it, I blot it with a napkin right away.
