Exotic skins?

Hi TPF!! So I was searching farfetch.com and found my most UHG!!! But the sad part is that i live in the states and since this bag is an exotic skin, it can't be shipped over here (it's in Italy). I tried searching google to see why exotics can't be shipped overseas and it was no help at all and I have never ordered anything that was overseas so I'm not sure how it would work ): would any of you tpfers happen to know why exotics can't be shipped overseas?

Its an International agreement to help protect endangered species, you can import, travel with or move exotics from one territory to another even if they are legitimate unless they have a CITES certificate and these can be provided by the store/boutique (but I am guessing not python to California).

People think that it doesn't apply to pre-agreement vintage bags too but it does, even if they are being carried.

Actually it's not the overseas part, it's California state law that prohibits the importation of exotic skins, including within the US from another state to CA.

ah okay i understand now! thanks ladies! i'm a little sad now to hear that i must pass up this beautiful, beautiful, beautiful balenciaga 'violet croc' work bag but it's ok! i'm sure i'll find another UHG......hopefully

1.Perhaps you could ask for a CITES (contacting the boutique directly rather than go through Far-fetch) and get it sent to a different state and then collect .

or

2. Buy the bag from the boutique directly (asking for a CITES Cert) and then go for a 'holiday' in the boutique's city and then bring it home.

or

3. Ring round all the US Bal stores and find the same bag in the US, pay for it and then pick it up or maybe Bal could send it to San Fran (afteral you not buying it there)

These are only suggestions, I think you should familiarise yourself with Cali law just in case. It cant be illegal to carry exotics because so many celebs are pictured carrying them around in LA, but I'd check with that too.

My guess is the law may be interpreted a little broadly when it comes to alligator and croc varieties that are not endangered. Out of curiosity I looked for the legal statement, and it definitely applies to python, and it specifies that all alligator and croc will become illegal in 2015, but maybe the farmed varieties at this time are permitted? I am not a specialist and there may be other CA laws that apply.

Travel anywhere within Europe and you are fine BUT going to Asia, USA/Canada or Australia/NZ etc and then returning you may get your bag confiscated without the appropriate CITES

You need to obtain and travel with a CITES (usually given at point of sale in premium brand stores)

Oh crap. Sometimes I just hate living in the land of fruits and nuts where the lawmakers all come from the nut section. I had plans to buy a vintage croc Kelly and then sell it when I retired. I guess I can use an out of state retailer. They never make anything easy here. And you wonder why businesses are leaving the state.

Oh the other hand, maybe there will be some great deals on croc items in the last month before the law goes into effect. Guess I should add "shop for croc" to my calendar for December 2014. ha ha
