Thanks LO! :hugs: One of my bigs problems was stated so well by Janinevs "my lifestyle and aesthetic don't always match up" I love the look of a cute little satchel on the crook of the arm, but this doesn't fit my lifetstyle right now chasing a toddler. All of the advice above is great. I feel like I'm well on my way to accomplishing the first 2, the 3rd is the one I have to constantly keep myself in check over! ;)

You're welcome!! And I totally hear you - I WANT to be the satchel person, too, but I just can't. Love the look but can't stand the reality of them given that I am constantly carrying around a pile of books, papers, and a laptop at work!!! :p

Boy are yall making me feel bad!
I have just sold six bags to get one I want ... I am sitting here with the business card and my debit card by the phone to order it and feeling STUPID at the thought!

Please don't feel bad - that's not the intention of this thread at all!! :D

I would never want this to turn into a discussion in which we say no to ALL bag-buying - rather, it's about encouraging people to be realistic and thoughtful about their collection and buying habits. No more, no less. ;)

Doreen, you need to find the right crossbody for you. I'm, to put it nicely, curvaceous, with big boobs and I always thought crossbodies don't work for me. A friend gave me a crossbody bag from The Sak for Xmas and I think it looks great. It's a large E/W and I put it on the longest setting and wear it towards the back, I feel very hip in that bag. :D

Agreed! And The Sak crossbodies ARE great!! I really ike the Silverlake collection - I swear, some of those bags can give the mid-level designers on tPF a definite run for their money. :smile1:

And Janine dear, I will spill my guts: I bought a Chloe Betty (medium black). They are no longer made, and black ones in like-new condition like the one I found are very hard to find. It's a satchel shape (which I love), but with a shoulder strap that actually fits over the shoulder - which lets me have my cake and eat it too, heh heh. :graucho:

What's not to love? :yahoo:

The plan was always to have two black bags in different shapes, so mission accomplished. The black Mulberry Alexa is off the list - and I am perfectly okay with that!

Definitely not!

I'm in the process of redefining my bag collection as well. Got rid of several that were mainly impulse buying or was just too restrictive in it's function.

Someone mentioned earlier that having around 5-8 bags is the optimal number. I think that this would work for me as well.

- tote
- black satchel
- shoulder bag
- 2 crossbodies (1 nylon, 1 leather)
- 1 elegant evening handbag

Right now, I figured that when I get the Chanel flap, then it could satisfy the elegant evening bag & the shoulder bag. Here's hoping that I stay focused this time. One added incentive is the fact that dh is very supportive of plan. Promised me a complete renovated kitchen of my dreams if I stay the course.

BTW I used to have 4 diaper bags to match with what I'm wearing. How weird is that?

Wow, I love your game plan!!! And it's always fantastic to have support for what you are trying to achieve.

Hi Indy! Fancy seeing you here. ;) I have this same exact issue. I have what you might call a "problem" when it comes to Nikkis and Matinees. It just doesn't seem like I can get enough of them. Realistically, I'm going to try to get myself down to 4 of each of those. Someday, I'd like to get down to 1-2 of each.

Maybe you could try for 4 of each like you say, and then see how it goes? At that point you might well find out that you can do less (or not - and if the answer is "not," then that's okay, too). I think anything that means not going back to where you are right now (unhappy with your collection and your habits) is a move in the right direction! :smile1:

I love that this thread is growing and so many of us are thinking our collections out a bit more...to me this thread does not mean I am not going to purchase...but just that I am going to get rid of what does not work, and think through what DOES work...

Lo...cannot wait to see bag #2 when it arrives!!!

ITA, and let's agree that this thread is not for everyone on tPF. I have many friends who love acquiring bags and they don't mind having dozens or even hundreds of different bags.

Like I said a few pages ago, how we think about our bags is defined by our lifestyle, personality, and the objectives we have for our collection. For some people, less is more. This is the thread for them. :flowers:

Lo, I hope you love the Chloe Betty. I'm not familiar with that style so I hope you post lots of pics.

And kudos for staying with your list of what's going to work for you!

I'm still hunting for a medium sized shouder bag with a pop of color. I loved this Ferragamo, but the metallic didn't work for me. I'm hoping it comes in a nice color for me next season.

Hi there, Odeb!!! :hugs:

And I  that Ferragamo, doreen - the size and proportions are perfect!!! What's that exact style called? I really do like it...hmmm....and metallics are tricky, especially if you want something that lasts. Truth be told, the only durable metallic that I have ever owned and one of the cheapest!) was a Hayden-Harnett Havana Hobo in Anthracite. I wore it to death for months on end (only sold it out of sheer boredom, I had worn it so much) and when I sold it it the metallic leather looked as new as the day I bought it.

I also agree with your statement about this thread not being for everyone, doreen. I personally have an absolute blast going through some of the amazing collection threads around here, as so many of the women and men who share their collections have fantastic taste and are very nice people that are well aware of how fortunate they are. I do not care to pass judgment on anyone else for what they own - or don't own, for that matter. Live and let live!

One thing that I have to say that I really adore about the general handbag forum, though - it encourages me to not get caught up in any one brand. A little bit of handbag whoredom is good for the soul IMO. :p

^^ very pretty. It's like a bigger version of your clutch (which is super gorgeous)!

I would worry that the rolled handle would be uncomfortable, though - I find they dig into my shoulder.

I know, it's like the grown-up sister of my clutch.

I don't think the rolled handle will be a big problem, since it's a smallish bag I can't carry much in it. My Le Pliages have rolled handles and goodness knows I haul a lot in those totes.

And I  that Ferragamo, doreen - the size and proportions are perfect!!! What's that exact style called?

I don't think there's a name for the style yet. There have been a few variations on the "triple charm" bag, as I call it, but it's only a couple of seasons old.

The metallic gave me pause, and I just wasn't wild about the silver. The other 2 colors aren't turning me on (black, and camel) so I'll wait for a better one. Not gonna settle!
