When my bag obsession started over 3 years ago, I would walk into a Tj Maxx or Marshalls or, even this little high end consignment shop and I would buy anything that I found that was a great price and I ended up with a lot of stuff that sat on my shelf for over a year with tags still hanging from them. Even when my collection was at it's highest point, It was still pretty small compared to most on here but, it was bigger than your average persons. I had around 10 or 11 bags and A LOT of accessories and most of them, I didn't use At all.
I ended up selling off everything I didn't use. I am now down to 3 bags and just a couple accessories that I use on a daily basis ( wallet, wristlet, a few fobs ).
I think in the next few months, I will most likely buy a black bag because I don't have any black bags but, after that, I will be happy with my collection.

Also, unlike a lot of people on here, I am perfectly happy carrying the same bag for a few months at a time so, 4 bags should be perfect for me, yearly. Then, if I ever get tired of a bag, I will sell one before I buy another one.

One last thing..
I honestly think this is some form of addiction and it's VERY hard not to want more but, one thing that has helped me a TON and is the main reason I was able to sell the stuff I didn't use was to explore other areas of Tpf.
When you log on here everyday and see nothing but, reveals and all these gorgeous new bags everyone is buying it makes you Want everything you see and it's REALLY hard to resist, as you all know.
So, by exploring other areas of Tpf, you are still able to log on here but, your attention on here won't be directed only on bags. There are a lot of interesting threads and subforums on Tpf.

Very smart - I have started hanging out in other sfs as well and it not only allows you to communicate with all sorts of new and wonderful people, it also keeps you away from some of the tempting reveals. It's a win-win - great advice! :smile1:

Wow! You sound like me! I had quite a number of bags...sold a lot, got down to 6 and posted a "this is it" kinda comment on a thread last year only to purge and switch again. I am now down to 3 as well...one thing is different this time though. I feel satisfied with my 3. I am happy $$ from selling is back in the bank and I truly made useful, comfortable choices.

In addition, I will have to agree again and say that I have also been exploring other places on tpf. I like the health topics (trying to lose some weight) and like the money tips, etc.

WOW! I went through this whole thread yesterday and it really got me thinking...

I made a list of all my bags and immediately recognized the ones that I used and the ones that I didn't. Then I asked myself, "could I sell the ones I didn't use?" My answer was, absolutely not! This one was a gift, this one is OOAK, this one I found for a STEAL at Saks, etc.

Then I made a list of everything that I found important in a handbag. And lo and behold, I'm seeing that the ones I don't use all have something in common. They're hobos, with little organization and not great closures on the top.

I think I may put them on Bonanzle and just *see* what happens. If they go, great, (after all, "it's better to have loved and lost...." ) but if they don't, I will keep them and start thinking harder about my choices from here on.

Thanks for the great discussion!

One thing that helps me make the decision to let go it reminding myself, "it's a handbag. if I'm not using it as a handbag, it has to go." Doesn't matter if it was a gift, hard to find, all the rage, a great deal, the perfect color, etc. etc. etc. If I'm not using a purse as a purse, it has to go.

slsk - You are on to something there...I am finding that the older I get, the more I know myself (and this includes my handbag habits, lol) and that that knowledge is invaluable. Good luck on the Bonz!!! :smile1:

doreen: I could not agree more. You are a wonderful source of wisdom!

it only takes one small step to start the ball rolling... definitely post on bonanzle and see how it goes... i'm glad you were able to figure out what style wasn't working for you!

Hi there. have just done exactly the same things as you. Sold my LV Azur speedy, Manhattan, Deauville and Olav in the pursuit of either the LV Surya or a Chanel bag. Only trouble now is I cant for the life of me decide which one I want, but i do agree with you I found that I had about 4 LV bags that just didnt see the light of day and I am def of the camp that the bags should be used and loved. re slsk comments I def agree on making alist of what you want and what suits your lifestyle. I had an epiphany the other day when I was asking do I really need another black patent bag when i already have the YSL Downtown Patent( I love) or should I go for a more structured LV style and I happened on a picture of a lovely EPI leather structured bag next to a Surya and I automatically swooned over the Surya... so there you have it - debate is still out though on whether to get a patent Chanel

i've done it, don't regret it, and love what I currently have left...the slimmed down collection are all mainly special and classic pieces now that I treasure though i could still probably stand to trim more from the collection it is hard to part with any of the bags that I have left and they'd be hard to replace if I did

Good for you, BlkLadyLaw! You inspire me to continue - I still am in the middle of selling 2 more bags, plus have one on the way that I pre-ordered ages ago and that i will sell as soon as it arrives. (I will never do a pre-order that you can't cancel again!!!) Bad, bad idea.

I notice lately that I am still in a major "research" with for my new collection, I have only been able to actually settle on ONE bag so far & buy it - and while I love it, I think it's time to get another one, once I decide what I really want. I know that it will most likely be a red bag, but I am in between a few designers and styles. :push:

Plus it seems that many of the bags that I want are a bit harder to come by, so I will have to keep an eye on ick-bay and Bonanzle until I find what I want, which make take a good while. The fact that I am taking so long to decide on anything now is further proof of just how poorly I was thinking out my bag-buying choices before. Now I have gone in the extreme opposite direction...

I sold 2 YSL's "downtown" bags, 1 Prada clutch, 1 Jimmy Choo "Ramona" bag, 1 LV planner and 2 pairs of Gucci shoes.....after getting my first Chanel bag, everything else seemed to be just clutter in my closet....I am thinking of getting my second Chanel soon....
