aw thanks aldies I know it's silly to be upset over bags but wahhhh i stare at all these RM nikkis every night and want to cry. Dumb. Rebuilding my balenciaga and chloes though that's good and trying to stay off the IT bag bandwagon.

I did a huge purge 4 years ago of all my beloved bags. Marc Jacobs, balenciaga, bally, fendi, and chloe because I was thrilled by selling about 8 bags I could buy 30 mid range designer bags but I am heart sick now I had a beautiful collection before said mid range designer and now I have 10 of the same bags that I really don't like anymore.

I would love my original saddle bag back, my chloe paddington, my bally, my balenciaga first, twiggy and hobos, cities aw I am seriously tearing up writing this. I had a such a a great collection of various designers that I sold all off for RM. DUMB

What you are doing is smart get 5 great high end designers you know you will love and will stand the test of time!

Oh man, that's depressing.. why don't you sell the RM's and start over with new high-end bags? :) That sounds like it would make everything right..

MSG, I am so sorry....I know just how you feel, trust me. :hugs:

The RM craze was hard to resist, and I got sucked in, too (twice!!!) - big time. I think that the best thing that you can do for yourself now is to not to beat yourself up anymore, take a deep breath, and take careful stock of your collection and where you would like it to be someday.

I actually took out a piece of paper and listed everything that I wanted to sell on the first round, and I found that as time went on the urge to get rid of ALL of my mid-range items grew quickly and it became very easy to just list it all - but then again, I didn't have some of the rare bags that you do this time around.

You have some gorgeous, very coveted RMs, so I would take some time to think about which ones you could part with more easily and take it from there - baby steps are key, and this thread is all about helping each other make it through the pruning process in a way that's as painless as possible and fitting with everyone's individual needs and pace. So come and hang out!!!

I think that different stages of our life call for different accessories, and a different range of accessories. The number of handbags you believe you "need" is usually a relationship to what stage you are in life:

When you first start buying your own clothing and accessories (HS through your 20s), you want items that will make you stand out and blend in. More casual than professional

Then, when you are established/establishing yourself in a career, you start having a duality in your wardrobe - half is for the workplace to look competent and intelligent. The other half of your wardrobe is designed to attract the sex you are interested in - and make your competitors jealous. You are everyone to everything.

When you feel secure on that front (and establishing security seems to go all over the map from the mid-30s to the mid 50s to never) you start dressing to feel and look attractive. You dress for yourself, and emphasize your own style.

Then, after retirement or a retrenchment in life, you realize that looking pretty is a boatload of work, you're tired, and you just want to have fun. You realize that the only person who really cares is you - so you dress in clothing that is comfortable, and seems to be fun.

This is so true for me right now.

congrats! I sent off one bag and one leather pouch and it felt great! Are you happy with what you have now or will you keep going?

I'm getting much happier. Another bag may go on Wednesday, one I'm setting aside for a lovely tPFer, and a few more got listed. I found another one that I haven't worn for a while, but that one sits flat when open, which is very useful for me at work since I tend to grab one of my multiple cell phones out of it.

But still I have more than I can use comfortably in a week. I will keep debating and thinking. But yes, the load is much lighter now!

I am finding I appreciate my bags far more when there are less of them!

MrsShoeGal, perhaps you can start selling off some Nikkis and keep one or two. At first I was sooooo wanting to get rid of all of it, but as the load gets lighter I start to appreciate some of the boarders! I've seen some of your RMs and WOW you've got some nice ones!

This makes me so happy to hear!!! :yahoo:

Sounds like you are doing wonderfully!!!

Yea! I feel the same way about this. I enjoy what I have more when there isn't so much of it. :smile1:

Mrs.ShoeGal--I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. I agree with Lo. Try looking at which RMs you'd like to sell. There's still a very good market--you might take a bit of a hit but all that money could go back to rebuilding the bags you really love. Good luck!

I feel the same way. Congrats on going through the process.

I am the worst ever for dithering about bags - what i must have this month is sold the next unless i really love it! in the past all my Pradas and Fendis and Chloes have gone to ebay but i have largely traded up for Hermes or a daily use brand like BE where they are no-logo bags but great quality. i still really regret selling my vintage 1960s kelly but as i'm now a stay at home mum i couldn't really justify having it unused.. maybe one day i'll replace...

I seem to be on an endless binge and purge cycle when it comes to bags. Always discovering new "needs" I hadn't previously identified as gaps in my collection.

Something handy I did just a few months ago was create a spreadsheet for my bags and their uses. Across the top are the different uses I have for my bags (travel, evening, weekend, work, knock-around, etc.). Down the left side, I list all of the bags I own (typically around 10 or so). Then I put a "1" in each category the bag works for, and tally them at the right. It's a really quick way to see where your true workhorses are, and which bags aren't "earning their keep," so to speak.

Kind of geeky, but it works for me, particularly when I want a new bag and need to bump one out (or have a talk with myself and determine that I really don't need it).

When my bag obsession started over 3 years ago, I would walk into a Tj Maxx or Marshalls or, even this little high end consignment shop and I would buy anything that I found that was a great price and I ended up with a lot of stuff that sat on my shelf for over a year with tags still hanging from them. Even when my collection was at it's highest point, It was still pretty small compared to most on here but, it was bigger than your average persons. I had around 10 or 11 bags and A LOT of accessories and most of them, I didn't use At all.
I ended up selling off everything I didn't use. I am now down to 3 bags and just a couple accessories that I use on a daily basis ( wallet, wristlet, a few fobs ).
I think in the next few months, I will most likely buy a black bag because I don't have any black bags but, after that, I will be happy with my collection.

Also, unlike a lot of people on here, I am perfectly happy carrying the same bag for a few months at a time so, 4 bags should be perfect for me, yearly. Then, if I ever get tired of a bag, I will sell one before I buy another one.

One last thing..
I honestly think this is some form of addiction and it's VERY hard not to want more but, one thing that has helped me a TON and is the main reason I was able to sell the stuff I didn't use was to explore other areas of Tpf.
When you log on here everyday and see nothing but, reveals and all these gorgeous new bags everyone is buying it makes you Want everything you see and it's REALLY hard to resist, as you all know.
So, by exploring other areas of Tpf, you are still able to log on here but, your attention on here won't be directed only on bags. There are a lot of interesting threads and subforums on Tpf.

This is not "geeky" at all...I would call it SMART!!!! I love this idea - some of the best advice I have heard around here. It literally forces you to confront your closet/collection and be realistic about what you truly use and love.
