Ever purged your collection in pursuit of one bag? How did it go?

I have some planning to do soon for "round 2" of another purge on account I've been eyeing another LV bag...so it's going to be quite a number of bags. I pulled some bags and have put everything back. It's harder this time to choose what goes because the bags are now designer level and I'm finding these are MUCH harder to part with, i.e. I may regret it and not be able to get them again. decisions decisions but I know what must be done!

Sounds fantastic!! Which LV are you eyeing? :graucho:

(I am eyeing one myself, but am trying to behave - though I may just throw that out the window in a week or so here).

Loquita -

First of all, don't laugh to hard that I am recommending a cool down period.

But you started this thread in order to just have bags you love - not just ones that seemed like a good idea at the time.

It is fabulous that you sold off your collection, and made the plunge to grab a few bags that are perfect for you.

Do you want to try to do it all over again, but this time with 2K bags that are just "alright"? or "good enough"

Do you want to try to sell your YSLs or Mulberrys?

okay, my weekend plan is to get my thesis draft done today and to start listing bags tomorrow, with hopefully quick sales to follow! i'm getting antsy thinking about possible replacement bags, so hopefully that'll be enough motivation! good luck babydoll chanel!

I didn't see this before, thanks! :D

I listed it and really hope to goodness it sells. It will obviously only very slightly dent the price of the Givenchy I'm eyeing, but at least it's a step!

I have never purged my collection in pursuit of ONE bag nor do I ever intend to.

Those of us who occupy this forum frequently know it's never just about ONE bag anyways, is it?

:lawl:

Actually, Contessa dearest, at the moment for me it IS about just one bag!! (And no, I am not under the influences of any illicit substance as I type this - it's just me - the same ol' Loquita).

That said, the fact that I have only one bag at the moment is just part of my grander scheme to own 3-4 bags, tops. (Bag #2 is on the way as we speak).

It is working out swimmingly so far.

(And I get dressed waaaaay faster.) :yahoo:

It used to be about as many as possible for me a couple years ago, maybe even last year. But now as I look through my handbag shelf, I see that most are just sitting there and not getting used. I do try and use as many as I can, but it's just not entirely possible for me. I began this purging process towards the end of last year, selling them to consignment stores. Now, I've begun listing on Bonanzle instead of ebay, for fees reasons. My point is, if I have it in my closet, it has to be USED. It's not a collector's showpiece, I don't want to have a bag museum. Also, if it's well used for over a year, I try to sell it and get something new. Currently I'm trying to finance a Givenchy, which is HARD since they're so expensive, lol. More so than the average LV-Chanel-etc, at least as far as I know.

Lo, how are you liking the zippy hobo?? Have you had a chance to take her out for a spin yet?

thithi, since it's my only bag, I have found myself (happily!!) obligated to take it out for many spins already!! The fantastic news is that I do truly love it...it is the ideal size and weight for me and not delicate at all. I am very impressed with YSL. :yahoo:

I suppose it simplifies things in that you'd only have to sell the ONE perfect handbag once the NEXT perfect bag comes along, yes?

Yep!! I am indeed prepared to do as such. ;)

But in all seriousness - I really don't expect any one bag to be all things. I am just looking for a few bags that are well constructed, fitting for my lifestyle, and that reflect my personal aesthetics (and a reasonable price point is a must, of course). I also expect solid CS - a lack of that is a true dealbreaker.

Right now I am really enjoying the bag I have, and given the amount of thought I put into it I anticipate enjoying the second one as well. If not, I will sell it and adjust my wishlist accordingly. It's all good!

I have silently been following this thread for a long time and I just love how it gives a new perspective on things. It's really great, thanks! I just have 7 bags myself including evening bags and a travel tote but thanks to this tread I've been thinking about how I use my bags. When I get a new everyday bag I use it all the time and the old just sits in the dust bags. I'm now thinking about listing bags not used anymore. The good thing with this is that the collection stays small and it's ok to get new bags :graucho:

Lo...I really am enjoying reading your journey here...

I have definately been looking at my OWN collection differently, and adjusting it accordingly....and have my eye on one or two pieces that I may purchase...after my ban ends in April...

I am thinking this ban is a great way to see what I use...re-fall in love with some bags that have been buried...and get rid of those that just don't do it for me any longer...
