Ever purged your collection in pursuit of one bag? How did it go?

I sold about 14 Coach bags (that I did love, but were barely used) on ebay and bought about 3 or 4 Christian Dior bags with the money. I only regret selling one bag and am happy with my new collection.

It feels really good to be at a place where you've thinned the out the excess. I did this a couple of times this past year and am really now at the bare minimum for me--I can't imagine selling anything else I have right now. My goal is to now make sure that I keep this space pared down and to be very careful about what I purchase. It feels so good to sell of what I wasn't using and to be able to easily see what I own now; I don't want to get myself back in that place where my mind and closet felt cluttered. I really hated that.
I am just about to start doing that. I'd rather have a few that I just LOVE instead of ones that are 'alright.' That being said I already have ideas about what I want to replace them with, so we'll see how much space I make in my closet when all is said and done.

Not for handbags, however I purged my shoe collection for my first pair of louboutins. I sold about 10-15 pairs of my Steve Madden shoes to help pay for my first pair of Louboutins. I purged my closet for my second pair. So all in all, I sold about 20 pairs of heels to HELP pay for my 5 pairs of CL's. I don't regret it one bit.
i'm doing that right now but I've decided I want to try to go to Paris this year! So I'm going to wait with the money and take it to the mothership (LV) LOL.
You might want to consider going ahead and selling off some things that you no longer carry. You'll have the money already waiting when your HG bag turns up and you won't be under pressure or feeling guilty about buying it because you've already sold some things and have the money in your account. I highly recommend this method.
Still love this thread. It reminds me I really need to do a big purge... but first, I want to carry everything I own for a week minimum to see what works for me and what bags I'm itching to switch out of by the week's end - I don't want to purge something and regret it later.
The RM might get a decent price, but i don't think kooba and LP hold their resale value. Might want to ask the sub-forums for more advice.
Well, I've had lots of extra space in my closet and have caught myself admiring a couple of gorgeous bags. Thankfully, I resisted but it's clear that my next step in keeping a small amount is to just stop looking at things for awhile and probably not checking into TPF except for certain threads.
I would ask myself, "Would you love carrying this bag more than X favorite I have now?" The answer is always no. I am down to my favorites now so I need to stop, enjoy and just shop in my closet!

hmm i do have 7 RMs....but not sure I would want to part with all of them
