Engagement rings- Tiffany v. other?

I have a 0.6 Lucida from Tiffany's because I really had my heart set on it and I dont think its small. Sure it is compared to many of the rings we see here on the forum however where I am from most of the rings I see are not what I see in some posts. I am a size 4.5 also and I didnt want a huge ring that may interfere with everday work and play.

Before I got my Tiffany solitaire, I looked high and low. I eventually settled for Tiffany and to me, it's worth it. The after sales service is great too. I travel a lot for work and leisure so I like the fact that I can walk into any Tiffany around the world and have my rings checked and cleaned for free. I also want to add that if the stone ever become loose, Tiffany will fix it for free. I get my Tiffany platinum rings, pendants, earrings polished every few years and it's free too.

.60 is NOT SMALL. Everyone has different desires for size, specs and style and clearly you don't prefer a stone of that size. But if she wants a .60 to have the name brand, that's her prerogative. Don't diss everyone that has a smaller stone size than you personally would be comfortable with.

While I agree that a better value can be had elsewhere for the price, everyone has different needs and wants.

While I will not comment on what size is too "small" or "large", as it is a personal judgment but the fact that she is considering a larger unbranded stone suggests that she may prefer a larger stone, budget aside.

To OP - I agree with the ladies who say go with what your heart says. I personally would go with the larger unbranded stone as I'm not sure that the signature Tiffany look is as noticeable in a smaller carat weight. But I can understand if the romance and the history sings to you. If you want to get a larger size later when you both are older, I believe Tiffany allows trade-ins so maybe that is an option.

It's true- I love how a bigger diamond looks on my hands, but I know my mother believes in all Tiffany so it is a struggle ;/

While nearly every bride wants to please her mother, don't forget that YOU are the one wearing the ring. You have to look down at your hand every day and love it and feel that it represents you and your love with your husband-to-be. If you guys are paying for your engagement ring, I think you really have the last and most important say.

I'd rather have twice the diamond for the same price.
And regarding cleaning, I have a $25 sonic jewelry cleaner that does the job excellently, so to justify a Tiffany diamond just for free cleanings is ludicrous. I have a non branded diamond and get offered free cleanings from any jewelry store I go into while I look around.

this.

As much as I wanted a bigger diamond, I can't deny that one of my wishes is to have a branded engagement ring. (w/c to me is Cartier). I was given a 0.6ct diamond solitaire and it may not be as big as compared to most of the engagement rings in this forum, but it is definitely not small either.

I agree with everyone. Follow what you love, you're the one who has to wear it. If a bigger diamond speaks to you, then that's what you should get, but if you're heart is set on a Tiffany branded ring, then you should consider that.

Btw, what we did is to get a non branded diamond for an ering, then we purchased a Cartier wedding ring. Perhaps if you decided to get a bigger diamond, then you can also get a Tiffany wedding band to match.

I am another who has a real Tiffany wedding band and a Vatche U-113 setting which is a nice repro of the Tiffany knife edge setting. You can buy ideal cut diamonds for a lot less than Tiffany and get more size. I have bought diamonds from Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash, and they are top cut quality and better prices than I could find locally. Not to mention, I couldn't even find ideal cut diamonds locally!

I come from a town that doesn't have many nice jewellers and after looking at what they had to offer I ended up going with a smaller diamond from Tiffany which had all the sparkle I was looking for which I believe is down to the cut. I just wasn't seeing that in the stones I looked at locally and although they were bigger I knew I wouldn't be happy till I looked at what Tiffany had to offer and I was blown away by their sparkle, and it isn't just down to their lighting!

I agree. Tiffany just simply cut their stones to maximize the brilliance and sparks. I upgraded my E color e-ring from a local jeweler to a bigger, G colour Tiffany's, and I was blown away by the sparkles as well. They are what I don't see from the well known local jewelers in my country. On a side note, when I was upgrading my e-ring at Tiffany, the lighting was definitely not better than local jewelers'. In fact they dulled the sparkles. Only when I stepped out of the shop, then I knew from then on I will only go for Tiffany's rings :)
