I think the simplicity of the GP make it a very elegant bag. I love to see them in the wild: they always look very chic. To me, the OTG is not chic, it’s a “fun” bag.Generally, yes- Hermes is a refined and elegant brand but the GP is a very casual unstructured bag- one of their more accessible bags. "Sophisticated casual" strikes me as an oxymoron.
I have chimed in before on my feelings on impulse buys which rarely work out for me. The On The Go could not be more different than the Garden Party. I have the On The Go in the reverse print and also a Garden Party. I used the OTG for a trip that I went on and the longer straps did make it nice and convenient. I use the Garden Party more. It is more "sophisticated" if you can call a tote sophisticated. If I were in your shoes, I would return the OTG and think more about the ways you would use each bag and then make a more logical decision for you!
I have both the onthego empreinte and garden party, and I love them both!! I also realized that the garden party 36 organizer fits perfectly in the onthego, so it was a win-win for meHi, everyone. I made an impulse buy and purchased the new OnTheGo in noir. It's a beautiful bag but I'm comparing it to the Hermes Garden Party and am not sure which I prefer. The OTG is much more structured and formal looking than the GP. I worry about the sharp edges on the OTG. Any thoughts?View attachment 4646341 View attachment 4646340
I think you should return it, you clearly like Garden Party more. Or maybe you could sell one of the GP?
I have a feeling this is how it will work out for me too! I don’t think they are that similar and am feeling that I will own both (need to try the leather OTG in person first before final decision). My GP36 is a great workhorse bag which I’ve used for work (added bonus - a lot more discreet and harder to recognize unless someone is into handbags / Hermes). I can actually carry GP36 on my shoulder but it gets tiring long term and the rolled handles IMO makes it harder to keep on my shoulder (they slip off). I think it will be easier with the OTG straps in this regard. If I love what the OTG look on me when I go try it in store I will take a black one. I do foresee it getting heavy if I load it though especially given that I want the leather version which should be heavier than canvas.
Back to OP: it sounds to me that you clearly aren’t in love with the bag. If you need to convince yourself or try to justify it, you don’t like it enoughthe one exception is maybe go take it out and give it the real world use test as actually using it sometimes can pleasantly surprise you, but generally speaking if I’m feeling this way towards a bag I’d return it.

Just the opposite for me. The GP is not what I call elegant- it is a fun everyday tote. I have an etoupe and an orange- the orange is soooo Hermes and brings a smile. Elegant is Kelly and Constance, maybe Birkin but even Birkin is a tote.I think the simplicity of the GP make it a very elegant bag. I love to see them in the wild: they always look very chic. Yes, this.I owned the GP and sold it. I have the OTG and like the shoulder straps. To each their own!
It’s okay to disagree! We clearly have difference taste!Just the opposite for me. The GP is not what I call elegant- it is a fun everyday tote. I have an etoupe and an orange- the orange is soooo Hermes and brings a smile. Elegant is Kelly and Constance, maybe Birkin but even Birkin is a tote.
Unless you are selling a Kelly or Birkin, their resale values suck in comparison to LV or Chanel. Talk about a one (or two) trick pony. Overrated brand overall with a select few great pieces.I also sold my GP. I missed not having shoulder straps. And the resale value is terrible, compared to LV. I had 3 brand new Hermes bags and lost my tail when I sold them.
