Wowie!!! Thanks for the pictures Swanky!

So not that I have a ring, but in my dream world, I am torn too! I love to see the rock, but I am not wanting it set really high. Then again I don't want it set really low, so that you just see the surface area. What is the happy median? Is it easy to change?

very easy to change in a basic tiffany setting:yes: my jeweler said if I dropped it off in the a.m. it'd be done before dinner :D
See how the prongs on this Leon Mege kind of "sweep up". . . very gracefully:tender:
I may just wait and not bother until I find the exact setting I really want anyhow. . . enjoy the view for now!

Sorry we've hi-jacked this thread!:shame:

I went from a 4 prong to a 6 prong. I think it makes the diamond look rounder and larger. You can't see as much of the stone from the side, but I do prefer the overall look. Now having a custom Leon is another story completely!

Mine is set with 4 prongs. The stone is about 1.7 carats, and my jeweler almost freaked when I said 4 instead of 6, but I insisted. The 6 is more secure, but does make the stone look more "round" (and I have side stones set 4-prong, which was a factor). If I did a 6 it would have to be the Tiffany setting. Not the one they call the Tiffany, but an actual Tiffany which is not the same. The actual Tiffany forms a "W" between the prongs when viewed from the side and is absolutely stunning.

Swanky, your ring is gorgeous! And that Leon Mege setting is stunning. But if you cover the culet it will interfere with light dispersion in the stone, so you have to consider that. Mine is set down as far as possible so the culet is just out enough to catch the light but so I don't whack it on everything (which I do anyway). And looking at it is making me realize how dirty it is...I need to go clean it!

^hmmm, jewelers swear that light reflects from the top of a round brilliant, covering the bottom in a bezel or something else isn't supposed to affect that.
Anyone know anything about this?

My sister and I both have ~1.4 carat stones. Mine has four prongs and my ring looks smaller from afar than hers. I think it's because her 6-prong setting is very thick and shiny. Also, her stone sits high in the setting, making it look larger.

I agree. My mom's round diamond is only about 1ct, but the six prongs in white gold make it look bigger from a distance, IMO. White metal kind of blends in with the white diamond. And as another poster said, six prongs will also increase the "roundness" of your stone.

Swanky, I am learning, but umm :blushing: how much are the Leon Mege settings? Like the one above?? Soo stunning!!!

Megs, I don't know!
I'd guess his basic setting like that is about $1k-$1200{?}
It's only about $600 ish other places but he's ultra custom. . . it could be more:shrugs: maybe someone here knows?

IMO it's only true on a stone where the proportion of metal showing {prongs} outweighs the weight of the stone.
On a stone weight of 1.5 or larger this wouldn't be an issue IMO.
Here's mine w/ 6 prongs. . . I love it and was convinced beforehand I only wanted 4 to be honest. 4 prongs also tends to 'square off' a diamond, 6 will enhance the roundness of it if that makes sense.

Oh, the new ring! I hadn't seen it, you went with the round solitare, very pretty!! Are planning to keep a simple band or still searching for your dream setting?

thank you Lola! I thought this would be temporary, but I'm starting to really dig it.
I may try and find a different solitaire setting I like a little more and DH will start me a little eternity band collection to stack w/ it. I'd like an all dimaond one, a sapphire/diamond one. . . would be fun to mix and match and have something to wear while trveling w/o the solitaire.

That sounds AWESOME, I love that idea with the different eternity bands! Your diamond ring looks beautiful on you as a solitaire!
