I think this looks fabulous--if you're sure she would not absolutely prefer a pear. I still think a full on surprise is a bad idea unless she outright told you she prefers no involvement. THis is too big of a purchase to not involve the person wearing it.

I would consider contacting Diamonds by Lauren. They do a lot with yellow diamonds and I think they do great work at a good price. Just make sure whatever you pick is returnable--and propose within the return window please!

I can't help but giggle at that - even if the reality is harsh.

What woman would not love that? I know she is expecting it (it has been 6 years) and I will ask her mother - I am sure she know what she likes. I KNOW for a fact she likes yellow diamonds and Princess Grace so I am 99.9% sure this combo will be a winner.

it just makes your heart skip a beat.

^trust me honey. If you don't let her pick it, you might hear the dreaded word guys hate to hear after a couple of years of marriage: UPGRADE!

As I mentioned earlier, my DH got me a huge beautiful ring. But I wasn't in love with it. (He is though.) He finally got me an upgrade we were both happy with after several years of blissful marriage.

Save yourself the upgrade..unless you can afford it of course. I do have both rings and have no intention of selling the original ring he proposed with.

Are you certain her mom would know what she whats? My mom doesn't have a clue as to what I want. Nor does my best friend. If anything, her best friend may have a better inkling as to what she wants ...but she might tell her. They are best friends.

Hi all,

I have been shopping around lately and have decided on something like this.

http://store.jrdunn.com/images/pure-luxury/luxury-jewelry10.jpg

I am hoping to get 4-5 carats (or bigger) if I can. I decided against the pear because the majority of her jewellery is round or cushiony i guess so I figured it wouldn't fit in. Also, it is an homage to Grace Kelly, her favourite icon of all time (she has wallpapers on her computers and books all about).

The search was long and heard... in fact, this search was something that lasted long than kim kardashians marriage (I had to... i came by it tooo many times in the search) LOL

Please let me know what you think and where I would be best off finding something like this.

That is gorgeous! For a non-brand name, Diamond by Lauren is a good place to start with as ame mentioned. For a brand name, Tiffany's can customize one for you.

Just make sure the diamond you purchase is chemical-free. I heard that some of the yellow diamonds have been color-treated. You want to be sure that the color is naturally yellow.

if I may, could it be possible that this gentleman who has been dating his lovely girlfriend for 6 years may know whether she would like to be surprised or not? Even though I am sure she is a very fashion conscious and stylish woman, we have no idea what her preferences are so it may very well be that getting surprised would be exactly what she wanted and she will love the ring that he chooses for her. I think sometimes we forget that the ladies who frequent these boards are passionate about jewelry so that is why many people are NOT suggesting that he not involve her in the choosing of the ring. Just my two cents.

Bart- the ring you posted is amazing! 4-5 carats of yellow diamond deliciousness
 any girl would love to have this as an engagement ring!

I would think so too. But there are others that posted and said they detest yellow diamonds. Ekk!! Once I've seen a yellow diamond, all the white diamonds look like glass. Oh well.

I think Bart needs to visit Tiffany's to make sure a yellow diamond is the ONE. It looks very different in person compared to pictures.

I agree, I love the colour change in different lighting and the way they sparkle:smile1: don't get me wrong I like white diamonds too but coloured diamonds are amazing! there's also a huge difference in colour between a treated coloured diamond and a natural diamond. treated diamonds are too dark and fake looking, not my cup of tea;)

Have a very old picture of my pear shaped e-ring.

you know wht dude, your girl is gonna love anything you choose she's one lucky girl.

The style that is really in right now is the antique style. I having a lot of customer ask about them. But really the choice is up to her, ask some hidden sneaky questions to figure out what she wants!

Bart, I love the ring you picked out in the last photo. It's stunning-- and as an added bonus, the shape of the stone is the same shape as the top on a Chanel 5 perfume bottle.

It's a total win. She'll LOVE It.

yellow diamonds are beautiful but the color doesnt work for everyone. i appreciate them but wouldnt wear one. the color doesnt suit me. further yellow diamonds are almost always set in yellow gold, in part or in total, to enhance the color of the stone. again i dont like yellow gold so that wouldnt work for me either. i only mention this because there are many factors involved--the more "unique" something is, the more it is very specific to someone's taste

Christine LOVES yellow diamonds. She was watching gossip girl (I know, a grown woman) and was FAWNING over the brown haired girls ring from that prince guy.

I was snooping (forgive me) in her drawer to see if I could pull out any more personality pieces to share with you guys and I find a Cartier catalogue that I didn't know she had. I looked at a bookmarked page and lo-and-behold, this is what I found.

Next to the picture it said "with a yellow diamond." I think she was hoping I would find this LOL.

If that's what she's hinted, that's probably what she's looking forward to receiving ;)

Also, you mentioned that she's a Chanel type of girl and the ring catalog was Cartier, do you think, just a thought, maybe you should go down the branded road? To some people it's important be it whatever reason, sucked into marketing, watching too much of breakfast at Tiffanys (oh! that's just me :giggles:) or loving the design/ craftsmanship.

A little teaser, there's a similar yellow diamond design at Tiffany's and the carat range you were after :graucho:
