That appears to be a radiant. And you can't go wrong with Harry Winston!!!

Depending on your budget (as in you really have a loosely defined budget), you cannot go wrong with a huge rock from one of the big jewelry designers. You're undoubtedly paying a mark up, but I'm sure your fiancée will enjoy the various perks like free cleanings and servicing from a reputable company. You can definitely get a quality stone elsewhere but if you can afford the fancy packaging too, why not?

I second this! I love brand names like Cartier and VCA. :graucho:

Back to the pear :D, I think anywhere from 2.5 - 4 is a nice range. Definitely big and attention getting without being over the top. Pears face up quite differently from one another. For example, do you prefer a fatter pear or a more elongated one? So it's kind of hard to just go by weight. With most of the fancy cuts, you really need to see them in person to get a good feel for them, how big they look, and how they sparkle and give off light. Pears have a harder time hiding their color so you will probably need to go up in color compared to a different shape.

Here's anna kournikova's. I actually like yellow diamonds with halos. With brings out the yellow color in my opinion. Hers is also a radiant cut.

^I agree. Send a private message to Hermasaholic to get some pointers on how to get the best deal for your $$$. She may give you her jeweler's info. Her diamond stone size is very similar to that emerald. ;)

What about Harry Winston micropave style? I guess u could either get a Harry Winston, or get a smilar style made (if so, you would get a lot more for your $$). Its a cushion cut with halo diamonds around it, and diamond band.

Hey,
Others have made very good suggestions. If your girlfriend is so bold and fashionable, I'm afraid it might NOT be a good idea to buy a ring without her, based only on what you think she'll like. Some people really DON'T like yellow gold e-rings, for example. Maybe she really wants white gold or platinum?

Can you ask her, or her mom or sister, what color metal she would prefer for an e-ring?

I'm going to make a confession. Most of my friends and me are "realists" and I know that it's pretty common today for a guy NOT to totally surprise his gif and buy her a ring with her input (like go to the jewelry store WITH her, buy online with her, or ask her questions to know what she wants).

Ya, it does kill a 100% complete surprise. I would advise to give her some options, verbally, before spending thousands on something she may not be crazy about. if you're willing, you can go online with her to look at rings or just to get ideas. On many online sites, you can virtually design a ring and see how it looks like in white gold, yellow good, princess cut, round cut...

good guidelines, like other people said, are .75-1.0 carat, Princess/ascher/square/emerald cut (these are all square shapes).

Good luck! Let us know how it goes. I know for myself, personally, i would rather have input in what type of jewelry i get.

If you're surprising her I would definitely get her a gold ring, because most women want all their jewellery to match in metal colour. My FH bought me a platinum ring when I wore only gold... as a result it's costing him a fortune changing my entire collection to match my e-ring! haha!

And if she doesn't like rounds, I'm thinking that square or perhaps even pear would be great. If she is a chanel no. 5 and lipstick kind of girl (!) then I would go classic - a plain band, and a solitaire.

And as others have suggested, choose white-coloured prongs, white gold or platinum. (I know for a fact that's how Tiffany's do their yellow gold e-rings).

Being fashion forward I would disagree with the notion of a coloured diamond. For starters they are usually more expensive. And secondly if she is fashion-forward, she might love a coloured stone now but how is she going to feel in 10 or 20 years when they are no longer in fashion? Is she going to change her ring then? I think it is better to get something timeless, and colourless diamonds are always timeless.

And finally, I agree with the previous comment, have a think about whether she would prefer to buy her own ring. I hate to say it, but I was totally devastated that my boyfriend spent all that money on me and I didn't get to have any part in the shopping experience!! Sometimes picking it out can be so much more romantic and exciting than being surprised! Besides, any time you tell her you want to marry her, with or without a ring, still exciting.

Hi all,

I have been shopping around lately and have decided on something like this.

http://store.jrdunn.com/images/pure-luxury/luxury-jewelry10.jpg

I am hoping to get 4-5 carats (or bigger) if I can. I decided against the pear because the majority of her jewellery is round or cushiony i guess so I figured it wouldn't fit in. Also, it is an homage to Grace Kelly, her favourite icon of all time (she has wallpapers on her computers and books all about).

The search was long and heard... in fact, this search was something that lasted long than kim kardashians marriage (I had to... i came by it tooo many times in the search) LOL

Please let me know what you think and where I would be best off finding something like this.

I think this looks fabulous--if you're sure she would not absolutely prefer a pear. I still think a full on surprise is a bad idea unless she outright told you she prefers no involvement. THis is too big of a purchase to not involve the person wearing it.

I would consider contacting Diamonds by Lauren. They do a lot with yellow diamonds and I think they do great work at a good price. Just make sure whatever you pick is returnable--and propose within the return window please!
