I had 2 white edge Florentine handbags years ago, when they first released the style.
They are stunning.....BUT be careful. On mine, the white edge picked up color transfer.
But worse, when the white was pressed against the rest of the handbag, it damaged the
leather of the handbag.... it pulled off the color and top layer of the leather.

It was partly my fault, since the handles rested against the front and back of the bag.
But I've never had this happen before and it happened on 2 Flo bags with white trim.
Dooney might have improved the white edge coating. I don't know.
Just be careful how you store the bags, especially the handles/straps. I would be sure to
wrap the handles/straps in tissue paper before storage. You can always wash the
tissue paper residue off if it sticks to the white edging. But at least the rest of your
bag will be protected.

And yes, I'm tempted to buy another one. They are so sharp looking.
But I don't need any more handbags. So when I buy more, which I probably
will, it probably won't be another white edge style.

Thank you! Noted and will store the new one properly

Ever heard of leather "bloom"? I hadn't! But when I pulled my lovely small Florentine Satchel (circa 2012) out of storage (where it had been for a couple of years through moves/remodeling), I found this strange white powdery film in spots on the bag, I was worried. Seems this is normal with high quality leather that hasn't been used in a long time or has endured lots of climate change (mine did in storage). Anyhow, a bit of refresh with Apple Leather Conditioner and a soft brush and she's good as new!

Yes! My black Florentine always gets that way. Have seen it on slate too which i returned because i was annoyed they shipped it like that. Will try conditioning. Was recommended to use a blow dryer on low which I hate to do

Yes, my older Florentine black satchel has the same white powdery spots. I bought it off Ebay in good condition but i did notice some spots were like a hazy black. I now know it as Spew. Defined as "Spew or fatty bloom is the result from fats and oils on the surface of the leather that solidify when exposed to air."

I have only conditioned it. Seems to help when it happens. I should try the blow dryer. Let you know if I do!

Friday, Dec 13... check out the MERRY sale on ILD.
Some of the Florentine handbags, in some colors, are
at really good prices. I saw the regular size satchel,
in IVY only at $137. The mini satchel looked like it was a
little more, but also very well priced.

Not all colors are the same price, but it's worth the effort
to check thru all of them to see if you can find a hidden
treasure. You will need to put a bag in your cart and add the
code to see the sale price. Then if you order, be careful that your
cart only has the item you want and the quantity is only 1.
It's easy to get so excited that we overlook some of the details
or the web site idiosyncrasies.

Before you condition, try rubbing down your Florentine bags if the surface has that
cloudy look. If it's bloom or something in the nature of the leather, giving the bag
a message with a soft clean white cloth may help remove it and return the leather
to it's beautiful look. It makes sense to see if you can correct the situation, before
adding more chemicals and oils to the bag.... especially if the problem was caused
by fats in the leather with have risen to the surface.

Yes, I saw the Ivy Florentine satchel and purchased this morning. I have an Alto olive and thought a different green would be great to add to my collection. It was just under 75% off. I didn't want to pass it up.

The other colors end up being around $220.00 with the MERRY promo code. That's still a really good deal on a bag that runs almost $540.00.

Also, about 8 different cosmetic cases around $29. Sadly, I passed since I bought so much this sale.

The deals have seemed good this year.

G: check out the Alto bags. There's a small satchel that's well priced.
Too small for me. But the Oyster color is pretty. I also considered the
tote in the Oyster. I already have it in black. But the price on the tote
wasn't good enough to make me buy another bag I don't need, but just
want. That small satchel is tempting, but I know it just won't work for me.
