I am posting a question here for all the Florentine D&B lovers. I have countess
Coach bags and was considering adding a D&B Florentine satchel in natural to my collection. I have never seen one in person and was wondering what your thoughts are on how it stacks up against Coach both in quality and beauty. I thought who better to ask than this group. Their customer service tells me they charge a service fee to return if undamaged so just trying to do my homework before spending the money. 😊
I own countless D&B Florentine handbags (and other leathers also) and a few Coach handbags. I'll give you my thoughts on the leather, the craftsmanship, and the styling.
I'm sure others will add their views also.
Dooney Florentine leather is one of the best Dooney leathers. It is produced (tanned)
in Italy using high end techniques... vegetable tanned, etc. (The handbag itself is likely
manufactured elsewhere in the world). The leather surface may be
smooth or naturally pebbled, or a combination. It is natural, not embossed. The color natural in Florentine leather has no dyes. It starts out a soft camel color and darkens over time with exposure to air and use. Water spots should dry, but the leather can stain and
will absorb oils, dirt, and excess dye from clothing. Florentine leather will also show
scratches, but they can often be buffed out with a soft cloth.
Florentine leather is generally thick but pliable. Larger handbags can be heavy.
As for craftsmanship, in general, Dooney has excellent craftmanship and I find t
superior to most of the Coach handbags I have. Dooney craftsmanship is
as good as or better than Coach Rogue or Dreamer craftsmanship in my opinion.
As for styling, that is personal. Some Dooney satchel have a lot of belting and trim
detail and others are more streamlined. Which bag are you looking at?
I would suggest you review things like strap drop and width and handle drop
to be sure the handbag will work for your needs. Everyone has their own criteria
based on whether they wear a bag hand held, on the shoulder, or cross body.
Many Dooney handbags have 3 part detachable shoulder/cross body straps,
These are great options.
The metal used in the Florentine line is a soft brushed gold color, quite lovely.
It's also gold plated.
Please feel free to ask any other specific questions you might have.
I wish you could visit a store that sells the bag so you could see it for yourself.
It's hard to buy a handbag in a new brand having never touched or seen it.
Are you near any Dooney outlets?
