I did get a bubble gum florentine wallet from TU. (sighs) TU described it as in "excellent condition" LMAO!!! It was absolutely filthy when I received it and there's some water stains on it. They offered to let me return it, but I really liked the color. Plus, I grabbed it with a bunch of credits and literally paid $7 + their shipping for it. I decided to keep it, and try to clean it up. This color is not one to easily clean, that's for sure. I got some of those leather wipes, and tried it in a small section on the inside, it came out fine. I used the rest all over the wallet, and it cleaned up, it's definitely brighter. But what you said about the leather fragility, is dead on.

It's a stunning color and I love the whip stitch detail. Glad you were able to clean
her up and make her beautiful again. I think wallets are especially vulnerable
to dirt. Not only are they handled a lot, but money is dirty and that transfers onto
the interior of the wallet and your hands. Credit/debit cards aren't as bad if you
are the only one handling them.
Years ago Dooney did a beautiful collection with untreated Vachetta trim.
The inside of the wallets was lined with this pristine, off white leather.
I never bought anything from that collection because untreated Vachetta and
I don't play well together. But whenever I looked at the wallets I wondered
who in their right mind would buy or use a wallet with a light color leather interior.
I think the same thing when I look at Florentine Ecru or bone wallets with
light interiors.
If the leather has a coating or can be easily cleaned (like pebbled leather),
then maybe I can convince myself it's worth it for the look.
But if it's a wallet you plan to use everyday, rather than switch out frequently
to match the handbag, I think we have to think thru how the leather
will handle the dirt.
On a related note, I'm not at all pleased with wallets where the interior is
mainly fabric. Even the red, which isn't a light color, is not easily cleaned.
And fabric will generally wear out more quickly than leather.
I think more thought has to be put into wallet materials/design, not just from a
style/fashion viewpoint.
