The center stone is gorgeous! Agree on the halo setting though it would look better flush against the stone and no gap. I'm not sure how the resolve the dark spot in the center as it only appears in certain lighting

Thanks for posting and for your thoughts on the halo. I would definitely prefer the halo flush. Maybe I'm expecting too much that the diamond will look perfect in every lighting condition!

Love your central stone and I had my round brillant set almost flush just under the girdle and so it looks flush with a rounded squarish halo, maybe you let it change to lower the stone a bit and have the halo set quite close. This looks nice from the side.
To see if the cut is excellent sellers might use ASET or idealoscope pics and they use reference measurements, if you still have dark reflections you can have it checked for cut quality.
Asher will always reflect less perfectly than round brillant, that's in the nature of reflection optics. You also lose some apparent carat because of the rectangular shape.
If you buy solely on colour and inclusion it's risky, my first brillant had good characteristics but always looked dull, it must have been bad cut and I tried to make it better in a rose gold halo setting but I ended up upgrading with an excellent cut but a lesser color to be very happy! ( bought online!)

Good luck!

Actually I love your stone and I like the setting. But I think I understand. Certain cuts always look a bit different and I think that's why round brilliant is the most popular - it's the easier cut to look good, with princess, emerald cut there are certain angles the diamond looks a bit different.

Just a thought. I wouldn't change the engagement ring. I think it has sentimental value. What I would do is to save for a next ring instead and there you can get what you want! :)

Not sure I'm helping though...

The stone is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! Yay! for such a great stone. I see your concerns and second them with the setting. I think you are being reasonable on wanting to have a setting that you will love for years to come. If it bothers you now, it won't get any better. Definitely look into a reset, from your pictures it definitely looks like diamond is not the issue.

Thanks for you message. I think you are correct I'm expecting it to behave like a round brilliant. The jeweller chose the stone - I should have asked for ASET etc and pictures of the stone in various light conditions. Stupidly I didn't.

Thanks for taking the time to post. The diamond was pretty expensive so I would need to sell to get an upgrade. I'm not really that sentimental!

Thanks Nikki. I think I should definitely look into a re-set. Maybe I would feel different if the halo was flush and I loved the setting.

On the other hand even in an excellent stone setting the halo small stones are often more sparkly than the center so it's a nice big ring because the small stones have more facets so it might be wise to change the setting to your wishes. I imagine you will have quite a loss on reselling your stone and I really love the rectangular shape you have!
