Dolce and Gabbana bags

I feel like a 'newbie' on the PurseForum not because I joined recently, but because my handbag collection is 2 Coach Bags, a Love Moschino tote and a heavily discounted Marc Jacobs bag. I consider Dolce & Gabbana to be of a higher price point than those brands- so this purchase feels like 'my first major designer bag' because all the previous brand new bags I didn't pay over a certain price point.

I wanted my 'first major designer bag' to be special. There's alot of advice online about how your first handbag purchase should be a 'classic investment' (Speedy, Chanel small). But those bags don't make my heart sing.

Here is my first major designer bag

Let's discuss this bag. It's from the Fairytale collection Winter 16 / 17. I purchased it from Reebonz. Now, I love fairytales. Alot. And this bag tells a story. As someone who'd like to one day tell stories of my own (aspiring author here!) I am drawn to things that hint at something greater. I'm also getting German Christmas vibes from this bag. Last year, I went on a holiday with my sister and mother to German Christmas markets. I don't get to hang out with my sister that much, so I have really nice memories. Can't wait to wear this to events- because Dolce & Gabbana is a great compliment starting point (my ready to wear clothes always gets compliments and stares!)

I'm of the opinion that our bags should bring us joy. In a world where you have to beg for Birkins, stress over Chanel price increases- I didn't want my first 'major' designer bag to feel like I was playing some cruel game. I wanted to pick a bag that made my heart sing.

Will this bag sell horribly if I try to resell it? Yeah, probably. Is it a seasonal bag that's probably already out of trend? Who knows. But fashion and luxury, to me, are outlets to have fun, experiment, express and accept yourself. And of course my first 'major' handbag purchase will tick those boxes.

Dolce & Gabbana produce luxury that tells stories, turns heads and commands a discussion. I want to do that- with or without a handbag or anything luxurious. Yes, this bag is 'different'- perfect! I pride myself on doing things different to others.

This got long, and I hope it's fine for me to ramble on- it's just I'm not used to buying designer bags of this caliber, and I'm really excited and I wanted to share it with others.

Congratulations on your first bag. its lovely and comes with a lovely story! :) wear in good health xx

Hmm. I wonder why this brand isn't popular here - isn't it conaidered a luxury brand? Or may it be because the bags doesn't hold up well, both quality and value?

Anyway, I just purchased my first D&G and I absolutely love it! It's so structured, great quality and fits everything I wish to carry around. I have longed for this bag and finally I got it at a great price (thank you black friday)

@asnegos gorgeous bag and I hope you enjoy it! Hooray for Black Friday sales! Now I'll discuss your comments about D&G's 'popularity'.

I think that D&G doesn't have the reputation in handbags as other houses- not because they are lower quality (they're not), but because they've been in the handbag game for less time. But I also feel that D&G is way more experimental with their bags and fit a much smaller 'niche' whereas houses such as Chanel, Valentino appeal to more people.

D&G is interesting- because I own quite a few of their ready to wear pieces and shoes. People look at them, and admire and compliment them- but they make it clear that they would never wear it. It's not an insult, because you can tell it just doesn't fit in with their usual style / what they are used to purchasing.

Dolce and Gabbana do not play by the rules. They never have, and never will. You can't call them a 'classic' brand or a 'seasonal trendy brand'. They're a beast of their own. Personally- that's what attracts me to them. I like unique and original bags. As for resale value- no, it's not great. However, I've noticed that those who buy D&G bags tend to adore them and because it's a lower price point than say, Dior bags- there is a lower sense of buyers remorse. I was looking for second hand D&G bags and it was really hard because I don't think people are selling them. That leads me to think that a large majority of people who buy D&G end up loving them and not wanting to sell them. I think 'resell value' isn't the most important thing when purchasing a bag that's meant to bring you joy. But that's a discussion of its own x

Anyway, I hope in the future D&G get their own section on this site. That'll be alot of fun.

Here's a couple if pictures of my bag, I absolutely love it! Tried to show you what's fits inside (wallet, keys, a book, passport, lip gloss and mirror), as you can see it's a very roomy bag as I still have space to fill (phone and gloves or whatever). And the close up shows you the detail work

Anyone knows how sensitive this bag is when it comes to rain?

I too am surprised to learn D & G isn't listed here at the forum. I received my first D&G a week ago and am completely smitten with the whimsy and quality. Wow. Beautiful detail.

I love it, very unique! And meaningful for you it seems. I love the idea of German Christmas markets (Christkindlmarkt) and try to visit ones in the US ;-) (The state I live in has a lot of German heritage)
Good for you!

Well said! Thank you.
I actually recently asked here on tPF why there was no thread for D&G, and they basically said there wasn't much use for it.

Hello my fellow D&G friends.
I got my new Miss Sicily bag in the post today. Thank you to the 40% sales, and to my husband for saying "easy ill get it for you for Christmas!". Super lucky :)
My iPhone case broke about a week after I bought this bag (and was waiting its arrival). So I bought the matching iPhone x case and hopefully that should be here soon too. I'm so excited to take it out. Its summer in Australia right now so it would look great with some of my outfits.
Super happy and excited!
Thank you for letting me share.
