Does the vernis turn yellow?

Oh no now I'm scared LOL. I did read that the sun will yellow the vernis if it's left out in it very long or I'll put it in the dustbag if I have. I'm going to be super careful with it! Is the leather already treated to some extent, you don't do anything to it right? Will rain ruin it too, like if you get caught in a shower?

I think that will ruin the handles more than anything else.

To Christina, I take really good care of my bags, so I guess no amount of care will prevent the light colored vernis to turn yellow. I took some photos of my silver vernis, and the photos do not accurately show how bad my bag looks. To accurately describe it, the color has a yellowish hue rather than it turning yellow.

Such an interesting thread - and a thread that has convinced me that I made a good decision to sell my marshmallow reade just yesterday. I was so, so, sad to let it go, but one thing I noticed was the the light marshmallow was changing to a peachy tone. The person I sold it to also checked for "yellowing" which I wasn't aware of. I just didn't like it anymore because the color tone didn't match my marshmallow ludlow and that bothered me so much. It was 2 years old and I figured it wouldn't last the length I hope to keep the rest of my bags.
By the way, I hardly used it and it was stored in it sleeper all the time. Framboise, here I come!! Do you think this darker pink will hold up better?

Hey guys... I found one of my mom's old Perle Vernis bags in the closet (I've used it a few times in the past years as well) & remembered that ONE complete side of the bag is "yellowed". It looks so unfortunate & makes me really sad. Is this completely irreversible...? I love it so much, but I hate seeing one yellowed side.

I really hope you're right crazy bag! Coz I'm planning to get a vernis wallet very soon but in pomme just to be sure :) I bought a perle summit drive before but brought it back to the store and exchanged it to a palermo gm and dentelle speedy hehehe! I got so scared seeing how delicate looking it was! But i really like this line so i'm gonna get myself one...but in pomme!

Hi girls,

I started buying the LV vernis items when they first came out - I bought the baby blue color and the pink. Within two years my brilliant baby blue had turned a hideous discolored blue. I talked with my SA, and they sent the bag to be examined. They said, "Too bad, soooo sad." I was steammmmmmmeeeeeeeddddd! After about another year, my pink also started to turn color. I put the baby blue bag on Ebay, and did a rant on LV about it - I described it as the worst bag in the world, etc., etc. I believe I put a photo of the interior color blue - e.g., the underside of the zipper vernis leather - some place where the leather was not on the outside, and compared the vibrant baby blue color to the dull slatey color it had turned. I rec'd so many messages from other Vernis owners who had had the same problems. The Ebay listing just served as my rant on Louis Vuitton. I told my SA to check out the listing. She was appalled. :roflmfao: That made me happy. Someone ended up buying it for $200 or something like that. Probably someone from LV. I would NEVER buy a light colored vernis.

Yay! I love marshmallow  Did you get the one on eBay? I was eyeing that one, but it was out of the price range (I think the starting bid was $489?). It looked to be in good condition!

i hv a marshmellow tamour lovely watch and the band has discolored a bit..only had it for a yr 1/2...i will need to replace the band before the price goes up. my dilemma is wat color...:confused1:

The yellowing of the light colored vernis bags such as pearl is a natural process. It is a calfskin leather coated by a VARNISH. With sun, age, etc. the leather will age and color much like rust or a patina. The sales associate should have warned you about this. Also very prone to color transfer..this will bleed through the varnish into the leather..good luck. I stick with pomdamour

It mainly depends on what color vernis you have. Normal carrying will cause the light colored vernis to fade eventually. I have a beautiful blue Houston (in my avatar pic) but with time, it started looking more of a greenish-blue. I guess the yellow started kicking in and since it was blue to begin with, it began to have a greenish tint to it. Its still a beautiful bag, but in different lighting you can see the greenish color more so than other lighting.

As for your concerns with rain, I carry my vernis in the rain all the time. You don't have to worry about water hurting the vernis, but you want to watch the vachetta.
