Does the vernis turn yellow?

This whole thread of do these light vernis bags turn yellow seems odd to me - any light color pocketbook (ESPECIALLY WHITE, PEARL, PINK, SILVER) is going to show more dirt and obviously needs TLC.

I'm sure everyone on this particular thread already knows that.
The issue I believe they were concerned about is if the light vernis colours experience inevitable colour fading/transformation over time despite keeping it clean/keeping it away from dirt and taking care of the bag very well. It is an understandable concern because if you're considering investing up to $1300 for one bag, understandably one would want to know the strengths as well as potential weaknesses (if any) of the material in question.

Thats reasonable, but if it happened after 5 months I would feel very ripped off and angry - five years might be another story. Since I just bought a new 'pearle' (though I referenced it as white in my post - appears white to me) in the sad event I see any accelerated discoloring yellowing that I don't believe was exsparated by moi, I will be sure to post and let you all know! Since I tend to ill treat my bags anyway I will have to make more of an effort to take care of this one. Time will tell. If anyone has a good picture of a bag that discolored ( you'd really need a before and after to nail this) please post. Maybe I should take a good pic of mine now (brand new) just to capture that - now that we're discussing...

The lighter colored vernis are the one that turn yellow. Worse, glue stains started coming out of the seams of my silver vernis. I took it to LV to ask if they can repair it, but they do not have a solution for this.

Sorry twinklette, but it is inherent in the vernis leather to discolor. If you really want one, I suggest you get the darker colors like blue, bronze or red. BTW, I tried uploading the photos of my silver vernis so you can see the ugly glue stains, but my photos are 1.7mb and they can only upload photos that are 214kb. To those who want to see how the glue stains look like, I can email the photos to you.

Hi there,

When LV told you they didn't have a solution to the glue staining, did they also offer you a refund?

I'm just wondering, because I can apprecaite if there is a problem with a bag, but to just say "we have no solution", without at least offering a refund???

Although, if it was a bag I loved, and no chance of getting a replacement (is the silver vernis still available?) I'd be in a quandry as to what to do.

K

The issue I had with discolouration is with my white suhali bag -- it started to turn yellow near one of the studs. I hadn't even used it:sad2: After MUCH discussion with my SA they replaced it:oh:

I just bought a silver Vernis Reade, or rather my boyfriend bought it for me for my birthday. Is this bound to happen, regardless of how well you take care of it? I didn't see anything like that in the photos of the eBay auction. Argh. I'll just have to be extra careful with it.

I think it still happens and as long as it's a lighter color, you'd notice it more. But with proper care, you won't see it for years I would say. Maybe 5 years or so.

However, there were vernis owners who mentioned on the other threads that the colour would fade/yellow despite proper care, and sometimes in less than 5 years...

You also have to be careful with the handles/straps b/c the leather will transfer over to the vernis leather. This happened with my mom's houston biege bag. LV sent it off for repair and they said there was nothing they could do about it because that is just a risk you take with purchasing a delicate leather.

Yay Christina! so glad you got one. I just bought a Vernis Reade PM in marshmallow. I am so excited to get it  I pray this color transfer/glue issue doesn't happen with mine :weird:

Yay! I love marshmallow  Did you get the one on eBay? I was eyeing that one, but it was out of the price range (I think the starting bid was $489?). It looked to be in good condition!

This is why I'm going for the darker colors. I love the silver though. I might end up with a framboise later on.

I admit the vernis collection is beautiful and great colours for summer, I am very tempted everytime I look at them. But it's not a long lasting material. Colours and dirt seem to transfer on to it easily. NOTE: DO NOT put your vernis down on NEWSPAPER, magazine, the newspaper will transfer/ be printed onto your vernis if there is any moisture. And DO NOT leave it out under the sun for too long. I know I am just talking, I wish I had pictures to show you all too...unfortunately I don't and sorry. An LV SA recommended me not to get it either and told me that the sun turns it yellow.
