Does anyone find it hard to use a non-designer bag after having designer bags...?

I've been buying mostly Marc Jacobs and Tods bags the past few years. I like the quality but there has not been a bag that I've loved so much I couldn't part with it. That feeling of being tempted to sell all my bags after a while is making me kind of gun-shy about spending a lot on a bag. Lately I've been interested in a couple of non-designer bags that I would have rejected before - Brahmin and Kenneth Cole NY. I'm not hard on my bags and the quality on these appears to be fine. If I buy one and decide I don't love it as much because it cost less, then maybe I'll regret it. But lately I just haven't seen a designer bag I want to buy. I'm sure as soon as I go buy one of the less expensive bags, I'll find a designer bag again.

I want this backpack to use because I just started walking back and forth to work, but it's a Vera Bradlley. Am I crazy? The style is like LV's Bosphore backpack only more feminine. Right now I own a couple LV's and a Marc by Marc Jacobs. I use to have quite the LV collection once upon a time..

:urock: i actually have a few designer bags but i also proudly carry my mango quilted crossbody which a friend gave me for my birthday and my ninewest bags anyday:D
No. I've been having designer bags since a teen. Like this is nothing new to me so I can carry my simple bag from Target the same as I carry my Chanel or my Louis or my Gucci. My bags/shoes/clothes don't wear me..I wear it and I do it WELL. :)

Once people give compliments on your designer handbags, it gives you a great feeling - that you have such a great taste, that your choice is superb.
When you have a great outfit to match your designer handbag, you exude a different kind of aura. Then you attract positivism all over.
With this thought on the side, I think it's the inner feeling of satisfaction that makes me hooked with my beloved designer handbags.

Funny thread- I am going back and forth between the TB 797 bag and the YSL Chyc Cabas and I read this thread- why am I such a snob, as the TB bag is beautiful!!! I am trying to no only have designer...

Typically for me my most recent bag is designer again. But this time I feel quite smug. I got a great Burberry messenger bag in olive green for £132. The Thomas Burberry diffusion line has been discontinued so I got a great deal. OK, so not quite as great a deal as the faux leather 'Rocco' I picked up in France a few months ago. But this is Burberry, a label I love.

I used to buy only premium designers. Now I buy mainly well known contemporary brands, and I have become much more selective about the premium designer bags I will buy. I have just had too many mediocre to bad experiences with quality on bags that cost over $1K, and I agree with the earlier post about bags of that price level needing to be flawless. I will selectively buy premium designers when I see something that really speaks to me.

I totally agree--- personally, I've been finding lately that lesser known brands can have on-par or even above-par quality compared to premium designers. If you pay $500 for a premium designer bag, most of that is going into the name, whereas if you pay the same amount for a lesser known brand, you know that it's QUALITY that you're paying for and not the name.

I recently purchased a first season Marc Jacobs bag, and everyone who's owned one/had come into contact with one was raving about the leather saying how thick it was, etc. but for a bag that supposedly retailed for ~$800, the leather quality is pretty much the same as my $300 Roots bag (which is pretty dang good, but for something that retailed for $500 more, I was hoping for a $500-level increase in the leather quality, which wasn't the case).

Once I bought my second premier designer bag, I couldn't bring myself to buy even a regular designer bag. Still can't, and that's been about 3 yrs ago. I just can't do it. Don't know why. I just can't. It is the feeling of owning them and carrying them.

i have to agree...i have some premier and also regular designer. the premier just seem so much better to me...trying to use my designers but now they are my "kick around" bags

its true once you are exposed to designer handbags you ll find it hard to go back to those non-branded bags. But i only work part-time so i can't really afford a variety of nice handbags. Plus i too, don't want my collegues know how much i am willing to spend on my bags.
my non-branded handbags are awesome in horrible weather conditions or family outings where i know my precious bag will be damaged easily.

After 10 yrs of my personal experience after my first premium designer bag. I can count how many times I used non-designer bags, which is like 6-7 times when I going for pool party or Songkan Day which is water festival in Thailand (where I lived). I don't like the materials, the style that they came with. So after a few years, I stop buying any non-designer bags because I know I never going to use them.

I've actually gone back to my pumpkin Treesje Asher. For a while I fell out of love and thought it was too big and heavy. Now I love it again because its blingy details and great leather makes it feel very luxe. I also love my faux Rocco. Everything doesn't have to be premier to be great!

I don't have any problem whith carrying a non-designer bag. As long as it's all-leather (I hate synthetic leather, it looks like plastic and gets easily teared) and I like it, I'm OK!!!
