Does anyone find it hard to use a non-designer bag after having designer bags...?

I do find it hard to buy non-designer bags! Design wise the non-designer bags are cute and is available in a wide variety but after owning these bags for years, I've grown sick and tired of their quality: the synthetic leather peeling, the stitches coming apart. I just save up to get a designer bag for I know I can use it for years to come without the constant worry that it will come apart.

For unfavorable weather conditions, I switch to my trusty Longchamp Le Pliage or my Prada Nyon bags. :) It's good to hear about people feeling the same exact thing! I though I was the only one.

Interesting thread. To answer the OP, no, not at all although I must say that I haven't bought a "no name" bag since acquiring my LV's and BV's. I have a $78 shoulder bag I use often when I'm just running around doing errands. I've had it for 2 yrs and it's still in excellent condition. I like using this bag especially when it's raining since the material is made of a sturdy polyester and I don't have to worry about it getting destroyed.

Interestingly enough, it is the "no name" bag that I get a lot of compliments on. I get asked what brand it is and where I got it because it's different. Also living here (in Hawaii) almost everyone is carrying premier designer bags so when I carry my designer bags, nobody blinks an eye.

Of course I love the way my designer bags make me feel when I'm carrying them but I carry them on occasions when I don't have to worry about them. The way I see it, I'll carry what I want when I feel like it. I don't worry about whether someone will judge me for them or not.

Nope, not at all. I've been through a phase where I purchased what I liked regardless of the designer and the phase where all I would purchase was high end bags. I haven't purchased a high end bag in a few years and sold off some of my collection but still have a few Gucci's, an LV and a Fendi left along with a lower end Marc by Marc Jacobs bag. However I tend to wear my Zara and Target bags especially my 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target bags way more than the high end bags. People are always complimenting my cheapie bags and asking where they are from. Its all about how you rock it.

Not at all, my 2 recent bag purchases have been a Chanel tote - a tick the box kind of purchase - and a bag from an obscure New Zealand made brand with the most awesome thick deeply-coloured cobalt deer leather. Leather like the old-school Pradas used to have.

I've been buying Balenciagas for the colours, but this anonymous bag beats them all.

Would you mind sharing what this awesome New Zealand brand is? I love NZ, so am curious. Thanks in advance!:smile1:

I haven't bought a non-designer bag since I started buying high end bags.
But I am a very very bad bag-mummy. I tend to throw bags down where ever I am. So my everyday work bag is actually a Mimco bag (before Mimco because ridiculously expensive for a mid level brand!). It was orignally $380 but I bought it on sale for $88. It's about 6 years old so also when Mimco was very good quality. I completely thrash it out but it doesn't bother me because it was a cheapie haha

I've been buying premier designer in the last 4 years. I must admit, I like the feeling of carrying them, and of course, the quality is usually superior. Of late, I have been feeling that in the year that I've had my red chanel flap, it is not being used much, especially for its price. I looked and looked for a cheaper replacement. Finally, I decided I needed two red bags, one for daily use that can also be dressed up and a clutch for special occasions. It was still a struggle trying to find the daily bag, but today I stumbled upon the Coach small Madison Sadie. Of course the price was great, so I ordered it. Apart from the removable hangtag, it does not have any logos. I am hopeful that I will like it! Still searching for the perfect clutch, but I have an older LV Vernis cosmetic case that will do the job, in a pinch. Same time last year I woukd not have considered Coach, eventhough my very first designer bag was from them. I am glad for the change of attitude in me, ESP. because we might be quitting our jobs soon and retiring early (in our mid 40s). I think as I get older, I am starting to realize my identity is not tied to any status symbols. As long as I like the product, it's good quality and it fits the intended purpose, I should not look down on it because it is not a premium brand. It has been a real journey though. The real test if you tell me to give up my entire premium collection and only go contemporary...that might still be a challenge :)

I still buy and use Coach and MK bags even after I started my love affair with LV. I also have a leather bag I bought from asos that I love. I usually buy a bag because I want a certain style or function so it's not a big deal as long as the quality is decent. I think some of the mid-level designers have a lot of cute accessories. :)
