Does anyone else wish that fur coats would come back in style

I already feel overdressed wearing real jewelry for Costco runs, can't imagine wearing a fur jacket there.
Reminds me when I was at Chanel and contemplating buying a bag, the sales associate was slightly scandalized by my plan to put it into the cart at Costco/local grocery store but hey that's how I use my bags .

It's freezing here. Everyone's wearing cheap puffers and fake fur. Most can't tell the diff between faux and real.

Honesty, I don't care, the coats are mine and I'm going to wear them. In the supermarket, walks on the beach, over yoga clothes, I am going to keep warm and not be covered in plastic/nylon.

Yesterday, I just chuckled on my coat over a black wool polo-neck and mini with 15 y o boots with a rubber thick sole. GP in hand, my Cartier rings have only one small diamond band on one between them all. Hermes shawl under my coat (100cm) hand-knitted mittens and beaver hat.

The high-street was packed, every store, book shop included. It was like Christmas in ye ol' times. Never mind the Internet. I went to T K Maxx too to see if they had gym wear (OMG, tattiest of tat) and M&S too. No one bats an eye anywhere because they're all so fixated on Christmas shopping. Nobody cares what I'm wearing. I am more worried about having a pram or trolly pushed into my legs than I am of offending someone with my clothes choices.

Update so I bought a fur from Harrods and it was shipped so poorly. In a bashed up cardboard box , no bag or anything to protect the fur !
It's a beautiful coat but now I'm wondering- where do you wear your fur coats?
I mainly go out for errands, an occasional meal at a casual cafe .
I don't really want it to sit in my closet unworn
Congrats on new coat. Sorry about the poor shipping. I just wear fur daily with any outfit. Like you said, for errands, out to eat, theater, etc. I actually see quite a bit of real fur around (which I much prefer over plastic fake fur).

A No from me.
I see how it is considered okay, to wear preloved or inherited, and that is a concept I follow with leather goods - but people want what they see and fur is so noticeable, and I don't want buying new fur to be acceptable (again).
Everybody should look, how it is "made". I saw how animals were skinned alive
I don’t think most people notice whether someone else is wearing real or fake. I much prefer real. I’m not fond of wearing plastic but I understand others feel differently. I don’t care what anyone else chooses to wear. Many in fur industry now use a certified furmark stamp which ensures where fur is coming from and that animals are treated well which is a plus for those who want to be assured. I eat meat, wear leather (including bags) and fur has been passed down from generations so it has meaning to me. But I truly feel these are choices we each make individually.

What kind of fur did you buy? Is it a full length coat, stroller or jacket?

I wear my furs almost everywhere when the temperature drops near or below freezing. I typically wear a vintage mink if I’m running errands. I wear my other furs if going to church, winter/holiday events, on a date with my husband, etc.

It's a rabbit fur jacket. Really beautiful and very elegant but I'm returning it; it's just not my style so much. I liked it but didn't love it on me

Random contribution after seeing this thread and being inspired.
In London over the past few days, I noted at least 5 different woman, all wearing beautiful (real) furs. Did not count the faux ones. This was all over the city, not in one neighborhood, nor anywhere "fancy". Two younger women with shorter vintage jackets over jeans looked great.
Three other longer coats, also beautiful, one on the tube. So people just wear them, all over and enjoy them.
But the best? In Heathrow yesterday, I saw 3 great coats, and even better? TWO got on the same flight as me to NYC. Both ladies looked gorgeous as they boarded. And they sure will need them in NY this weekend!

Thank you for the lovely story, Shopaholicandshoelover! I worked in the Chicago Loop at the time your mom was dreaming of a fox coat. I remember riding the buses through the near-north side and near Miracle Mile and seeing all the women riding to work--to work!--wearing those amazing fox fur coats. They looked so warm and elegant. It seemed to be the style to wear one's hair pinned up in an upsweep with the fur. The marketing director at the company where I worked would stride in every morning in her heels and meticulously upswept hair and fox coat, looking so beautiful and chic. I and my fellow-pauper roommates dreamed of one day having such a coat too. Ah, those were the days!

My own mom dreamed of a mink stole, like the Kennedy ladies wore to political teas in the '60s. My dad eventually bought her one second-hand from friends who were moving to Florida. My mom had it restyled with her name embroidered into the lining, and she was so very proud of it, but I think she wore it only twice. It is now hanging in my office closet. It makes me sad when I look at it. Stoles went out of fashion so long ago. As did afternoon teas with silver services where the ladies would dress in their suits and pearls. But it reminds me of my mother and her dreams.

I'm glad your mom enjoyed so many lovely outings wearing her coat. I wish my mom had worn her fur more often.
I have a mahogany mink stole. I wore it to a gala last month. It doesn’t matter if they are in or out of fashion. They are always fabulous!

question for all you fur aficionados; a lot of the fur coats I am seeing are lined in polyester rather than silk.
Is that an issue with quality/durability? I remember my mother's old fur from the 80s was lined in silk, but maybe nowadays it's different? (these are new coats, not vintage)

I have newer coats with polyester linings, and vintage coats with silk linings. I don’t notice a difference when wearing them.

I lived in Paris for 10 years and the winters were so cold that every woman owned a fur coat-I had a J Mendel vintage long mink, and a J Mendel new gunmetal silk trench with a chinchilla collar which wasn’t as warm-nobody said anything as it was freezing and it was perfectly normal, I also had a J Mendel off white curly lamb.
Even back in the U.K. I always wear real shearling as fabric coats just don’t keep me warm…

I have a handful of fur coats, some neutral some bright, I have owned probably like 10-12 years. I have worn fur coats in California on occasion during the winter but have worn them mainly for winter vacations, ie Paris, Spain, Portugal, and Turkey with no issue, even getting compliments. My main coat during my last trip was a dark mauve fur bomber with hood, and I got a lot of compliments on how cute it was.
