I think at that price you're getting a very nice looking Kelly
The handle looks like it has some cracks ? I did not see the white spots

Does the seller have a return policy?

Then you can see the bag in person

Maybe buy on eBay from a seller with a return policy to make sure you're going to love your bag

Just saying

I don't see anything from those photos that makes me really worried

Looks like small stuff and some light cracks are par for the course in a bag in this price range

You can go up on price you should get a bag without some cracks

If this is you price point go for it and use it

You can always sell it in the future and use the money to fund another Kelly right?

In the mean time you'll have a nice bag to use and enjoy

Seems like we can often times get so fixated on the idea of a hermes bag being our forever bag that we check them over like our new born baby counting fingers and toes so to speak

Like a boyfriend couldn't he be mr right now even if he's not mr right ? Eventually you'll find your prince

Same goes for a hermes bag
You can buy at a good price and the bag tends to hold its value pretty well so you can use it for a year or two and sell it and what ever the price difference after sale you call cost of use
Then you can get another bag with what ever you saved up over that two years plus the sale amount money of the last bag
Repeat until you finally arrive at your forever bag
Right?

Hugs doc

Doc I think you are quite right, it's such a special bag to me that I keep fretting over it and getting "the one"! It's good to know that I won't need to worry about the bag falling apart and needing repairs straightaway. I have spotted another at 6k USD that is near perfect condition so I've got to think about the cost/condition tradeoff and what the better condition is worth to me.

Oh that's lovely !what a nice bag ! I think it's veau gulliver from the photos but I'm not 100% on that
Definitely not Ardennes
That veau gulliver could be treated like a semifinished leather even though it's finished leather and you could well to stay with a light cleaner conditioner type product I would not use waxy or oily type products that could be a disaster
Google cleaner conditioner or spa kit for unfinished leather ok? Also good brands are meltonian (they're out of business though) saphir wooly Kelly and another which I'm not allowed to mention because it's my brand

All the best doc
Thank you SO MUCH for the recommendations! I look forward to trying this out! Have a wonderful day!

I think near perfect at 6k is the way to go if you really will become attached emotionally to your Kelly
6k It's still a great price and way way under retail
You're buying at a smart price
If you buy the less expensive one and fret over its condition but get attached to it like an orphan you might end up with sending out for costly repairs and not having your bag to carry during those many long months waiting for its return. Additionally , the costs of repairs may be close to the price difference between the two Kelly's

If keep those things in mind when making your decision

Ok? [emoji304][emoji256]

So

Doc, now that I have figured out photo posting... here are a few of the dirtier areas. I know not to rub hard or too much in an attempt to remove the pen mark, but do you feel that the other areas would clean up fairly well with the products that you recommended earlier today?
Grateful as always!

Hi
I recommended some brand names you'll need to check what products are available for your leather type

You are not going to clean away a pen mark, even with ink killers you're going to end up in trouble as this leather type will have absorbed the ink already

The darkened areas you think are dirt are more likely wear and resultant color loss this is t something you'll clean off

Color restoration in the right hands might help a lot

I hope this helps ?

Yes, it keeps me from getting my hopes up too high, and reinforcing my desire to send it to the Spa! :-) Do you still feel that it is most likely Veau Gulliver?

Hi Doc,
I have a croc shiny CDC that seems to have lost its shine in portions of it (I think I got water and soap on it). Any recommendation for cleaning and restoring its shine? Thanks so much!

I wouldn't get your hopes up too high about Hermes spa they'll maybe add a little color to the edges and the pen mark will remain afterwards

Good luck

Hi there
You can try a good cleaner conditioner for reptile skin and buff it out. It might not turn out like new but it should help. saphir reptan is good as are several other brands ...Google reptile skin care products
Good luck

Hi Docride! I just won a Hermès kelly 40 from a seller for a great price. It's in box leather and does have some excessive scratching. Is there anything to make the scratching less visible and "blend in"?

Thank you so much for your time. Pics attached. 20170518_205757.jpg 20170518_205951.jpg

Hi there
Lucky you ; what a treasure you've found [emoji106][emoji3]
Conditioning can help and a good neutral polish
You can send it to Hermes spa and they might add some pigment to the corners
And they'll condition it for you too
Or you can google a restoring spa kit for vintage box calf had bags
All the best doc
