Post a photo please
All the best doc

Hi, it was the link to album of photos I loaded so far but anyway, yes it is Hermes (I know the non-Hermes is not allowed here) and let me try putting one pic below:

Hi Doc, I recently purchased an Etoupe B35 in Veau Tadelakt. How concerned should I be with stains/scratches/patina/slouch? What is the best way to care for my bag? I am generally not rough on my handbags, however I do realize that care for this leather will be different than my Clemence. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated. I don't particularly love the look of the Twillies on the handles, but would this help tremendously?

Also, I have an insert for my Clemence B. Should I expect slouch with this leather?

Hi Doc, could you take a look at this vintage box C? Another poor bag with a corner rip, but not as bad as that Drag I posted earlier this month.

What are your thoughts on this rip as it doesn't look like a stitching blow-out? It appears that someone tried to anchor the rip with some stitching. Is that good or bad? Is the rip due to dryness? Also, the strap has some additional stitching in the middle of it. Is that normal for a C strap of this age? I really like the bag since it is from my birth year but not if it is unrecoverable train wreck. TIA!

Great questions
Nice price yup you have a bit of year out in stitching not a big deal at this price point
As fir the stitching on middle of strap not to worry it is supposed to be there this is where the two ends are sewn together that way so that's just fine
Pretty classic bag !
A little vintage feel is ok right?
Price is good
Presents well?
Have at it sister I say [emoji6]
See it In Person
Let me know how it goes![emoji256]

Hey there!
What a cool combination and welcome to the wonderful world of smooth classic leathers !
This bag probably won't slouch much it will gain some patina think of it as rather in between box calf and swift.
If you don't like the twillies on the handles deal then don't do it
Keep your hands free from excess lotions
If and when you get some wear on the handles get them touched up by a pro or have them replaced by Hermes
See if you love this leather
Personally I think it will be better with age and care [emoji1][emoji106]
A totally different vibe than clemence there should be room for both leathers in your closet right?

As for stains I think you can do a weather and or stain protection cream every 3 months and be off to the races so to speak with out worries

I hope this helps?
All the best ,doc

Hi Doc, I got the bag!!!!! My first C and second box leather bag. Thank you for your invaluable feedback.....:hugs:

I will see how the bag looks when I get it and decide if it needs a B&O treatment. Anything special to look out for with a vintage bag? I have a raisin box bag, but it is from 2001.

Congratulations !
I hope it's as lovely as you hope [emoji178]
I do not recommend b or o treatments
Much better products and more forgiving ones out there
Keep in touch [emoji3]

Dear Doc, I recently purchased a B30 in the new Barenia Faubourg but I haven't been able to find much info on how to care for it at all. Do you have any tips for me please? According to my SA water/rain will ruin the bag but I don't have to worry because it's quite resistant to scratches. I would also like to know if it will darken with time or develop a patina. Thank you!

image.jpeg image.jpeg Hi Doc, I have a Barenia question too please? I have recently purchased an approximately 20 year old Kelly which I adore, but have no way of knowing if she has been conditioned at all previously. In comparison to the leather under the flap several areas of the bag feel and look to me quite dry. I have tried with no luck getting the saddle balm from Hermes, there is none in the uk and I even rang Paris FSH who don't have any.
I know I could send her to spa but I would much prefer to do it myself if possible. The Hermes saddle oil is readily available and I am wondering if it would be safe to try a tiny bit of that (I realise it will darken and soften the leather, but I wonder after 20 years whether oiling may be now necessary) or is there something else available in the uk I could use?
I'm fine with darkening and gaining even more patina by the way, I'd love her to look used, old, but conditioned!
Thank you :)

Hi there
I would not use Hermes saddle oil "a little bit" (that product you can use for discrete area conditioning it's an all or nothing type endeavor )
That would lead to uneven darkening
I would use a product made for oil tanned leather or natural vegetable tanned leather
Or unfinished leather. The U.K. Has some great leather care brands with good products available
Brands like Woly, Kelly and saphir should be available make sure to check they are suitable for your leather type and always test a hidden small area before doing large areas
Try not to use oils or greasy or waxy type products
A might conditioning lotion type product will be more what you are after
Google leather care for unfinished leather and see what pops up ?
All right then?
Beautiful Kelly!
Old Barenia is the best Barenia I think [emoji6]
All the best , doc

Dear Doc, could you please let me know if cracks in the leather will be ok with good conditioner and Saphir Hermes Red or will it worsen over time and not even be reparable at the spa? http://jpegbay.com/gallery/006235155-8.html#8
It looks okay to me but I didn't want to assume anything since I'm an H newbie. TIA!

Hi there
Some conditioner should help
It looks like it will look much better afterward
I doubt you'll need to do any color work
A cleaning off of old polish , deep conditioning and finishing with a protective lotion or a nice neutral polish and buffing out should be sufficient for a vintage Kelly

I'm not sure I know what that is
Is it Barenia ?
I'll see what I can find out and get back to you
Sounds odd about water being an issue for Barenia ?

Thanks Doc, by a little bit, I meant sparingly as opposed to in one area rather than another. I'll keep hunting though.
I absolutely love this leather! I got caught in the rain the other day and all rain drops apart from one disappeared without trace. The remaining one I dampened with a wet paper towel and that then disappeared too. I've had a nose mark too (sorry, couldn't resist sniffing it!) that was gone in an hour and a small mark from olive oil that also just disappeared. I guess that's why I asked about the saddle oil. Where the olive oil was can't be seen but felt lovely and soft and smooth, so I figured oil might be what I needed... Just sparingly!
