Hello there
I agree I believe it looks like veau Gulliver which I believe to be a wonderful leather.
Yes it will get scratches and if scratches bother you they can sometimes be made to look slightly less noticeable with light conditioning.. I would not ever use colored polish or neutral polish on this leather, when you say meltonian which product do you mean ? Meltoian is a brand and does not denote specific product unless you add it in (smiles)
If te scratches bother you perhaps try a leather with some texture which may be less pro

ne to showing scratches?
You want Barenia leather why?
All the best,doc

Docride I'v perused the Plume thread and the bags that made my heart sing were the Barenia ones, also I do have the Stitch Toile and Canvas GP and love the smoothness and glow of Barenia.
I've now had the Gulliver Plume for 2 days and have grown to love the look of it , so I'm going to keep it .Barenia for a future bag!
You know , if Gulliver is in your eyes a wonderful leather ,that's good enough for me !

I've combed through your thread and have concluded the following about Gulliver :
It survives if caught in a rain shower , wipe down after with a soft cloth.
Scratches may blend in when treated with conditioner and buffed well.[Avoid colour touch up creams.]
Conditioner could be either :Meltonian Leather conditioner in black bottle, Blackrock used v sparingly , Luxury Again Kit B …..all to be buffed a lot .
Would Lexol wipes be appropriate too?

Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of these points , and a big thank you for this fantastic thread and advice.

Dear Docride,
I recently bought a resell Kelly togo leather about 10 years old (good price), the overall condition was good except the handle little bit crack lines (pic 2) and the right side of the opening right (pic 1) a pc of the leather has peel off. Need your advice should I return it or keep it or get it repair by Hermes or sent to other reputable bag spa services or leave it and use it first? My concerned is not only the handle also the open side the leather peel off will it affect and pull against other parts of the leather when if is used it daily?
Thank you in advance and have a good day ahead!
Cheers!
Forgot to mention is a Kelly sellier.

You got it agree with all you gleaned. One key point to clarify, I do not think you should ever se waxy polish or colored polish on this leather and I would caution against blackrock use.

It doesn't look like these things would be all that worrisome. If you got a good price I'd just use the bag and enjoy it as is...

Dear Docride
I'm in a quandary about a newly arrived bag which I purchased from a consignment company who described it a' dark brown Barenia with orange stitching'
Oh my! Ebene Barenia? I thought my Plume boat had eventually come in!
My desire for a Plume in Barenia is based on love for the character of it and also the need for a bag that I can use without having to keep an eye on the weather forecast , at the moment I'm unable to use my BBK or Toile GP for fear of showers. Secondly I want a Plume that will age well and with character . I take care of my bags but babying them is out of the question and so I don't mind character or a bit of wear on corners/handles .
But a shabby scratched shapeless bag after a couple of years use is not for me.[ have my Amazonia GP for that!]
Now the bag is here, it's gorgeous , but I doubt it's Barenia …. sadly. I enclose photo of the Hermès stamp which is gilded.
But I don't know which leather it is ,so am unable to know if it will suit my purpose.
I would love to know exactly what you think it is and any tips on looking after it please.
As you can see it has come with faint scratches .I'm OK with that , but need advice as to treating more substantial ones if they arise which I'm guessing they will as I'm on and off buses and tube trains living in London.
The leather is thick , luscious and lustrous ,with a fine round grain except on the base which has a larger grain.
It's very supple and was made in 1999 .
The leather lining appears to be the same leather as the outer.
Photo of zip shows most clearly the rounded small grained texture , I also enclose one of the base where the grain larger
I don't recognise it as Box, Barenia or Epsom [ based on bags I already have ] Swift I've seen seems in store seemed super smooth and rather matte ,not as shiny and luminous as this.
But based on all my research here and online I'm thinking that I've got a Gulliver bag , colour I'm not sure …either Havanne or Ebene.
I saw on a post here from way back that you consider Swift/Gulliver should not be treated prior to use. Does that mean it's ok in a shower if dried off quickly afterwards ?
Also if scratching becomes worse and bothers me can I disguise the scratches with Meltonian or can Hermès do anything to them?
.
Thank you once again for your fantastic thread , you are th best!

Hello Docride,
I find the leather on my vintage contance too dry with 'wrinkles'. I need to save it and I hope it to not too late! Please advise what should I do.
In addition, which product can I use to make the H clasp shine? It is looking slightly tarnish.
Kindly refer to my photos. Thank you in advance. Appreciate it :D

Dear Docride!
There is this bag that I would like to get. Bababedi already authenticated it and it is made of smooth Crinoline and Courchevel. Could you please tell me if I would be able to clean the Crinoline which is at one patch darker than the rest? It is darker there because it is the part which has been more touched than the rest of the bag... - The Courchevel is also darker where it has been mostly touched. Would there be a leather care to treat the parts which are lighter to get again more or less a monochrome overall impression? - I really do not want to have a NEW bag - it is just that I would like to help this bag to look again a little bit nicer than it is now... Hoping so much for good news from you... Thank you so very much in advance!!! :flowers:

^ Dear Docride, although I am still very interested to learn and receive your reply on the above - I did, unfortunately, not win the bidding... So, there is no immediate need anymore... :oh:

Hi there looks like the finish has wrinkles and cracks however that might not be the case with the leather below ... condition it well ... those wrinkles and cracks on the finish are going to remain regardless of conditioning though...
Lots of great conditioners out there, try not to use any straight oil type conditioner though...
Good luck,doc

Hi there, In my experience you wont be able to lighten the crinolene which has been discolored. And as for lightening up a darker spot on leather , a photo would help .... But generally those darker areas are in fact wear and the surface color is worn away so cleaning isn't going to fix it.. perhaps some professional color touch up would help, however keep in mind to mix a color to try and correct an area of missing color when in the middle of a panel is usually not spot corrected it is usually complete panel corrected , so that there is better end result....
Did you already buy the bag? All the best doc

Dear docride! Thank you so much for your valuable advise! I did not win the bidding for the bag and was very sad at that time... However, when reading your post now, it might all have been for the best.. Thank you again for taking the time to answer!! :hbeat:
