The bag was originally dark blue .
Thank you Doc.
Oh so that's good , you can use cleansers and or light conditioners for unfinished leathers
do not use heavy greasy or waxy conditioners on barenia leather.
Has this helped?

Hi there, great question. Id be happy to look at the bag for you. A key thing to keep n mind is that if some parts of a bag are badly cracked then other parts may be weakend also suffice to say sometimes its not just a case of replacing straps or a handle at all... often times the rest of the bag is too weak to support the new stitches needed for repairs.. this is the most important thing to keep in mind... will this bag be sturdy enough to be repaired?

Hi Docride![]()
I am new to Hermes forum but have been reading your restoration post and blog! Very impressive indeed
I also know that it is a dumb question, but I guess it would not hurt asking for the ease of my mind. Recently I have found reseller who sell Birkin 28 from 2006 in Bleu Jean. BUT she said it has been redye by the previous owner, which I read in tPF that Hermes does not offer such a service, and they may refuse your bag for Spa service in the future.
Would it be possible to remove the dye and do something with it? or it is just not worth all the mess at all?
I would assume that it would be hard to restore, unless I keep applying the dye when it needs to be repair. Then I should keep my eyes open for the other Birkin 28 that would come out in the market![]()
You are SO fantastic to offer to look at the bag for me, and I hope I can take you up on that offer soon, for another bag. After reading your comment I asked the seller about seams and was told they are disjointed. I walked away from the bag because what you said about the bag being sturdy enough makes a whole lot of sense. Thank you for potentially saving me a lot of $$ and heartache.
Also - I saw a photo on Instagram of a bag you engraved and your work is flawless 💕💕
Hi Docride
My Epsom leather and corners wear so bad. There are many scratches on the leather. Anyway ways to fix it? View attachment 3355891View attachment 3355890
Hi there,
So yes a dyed bag is usually not accepted by Hermes for servicing. As to removing the dye.. . is it a spray on or acrylic type finish or if its an actual alcohol or oil based dye which sinks into the leather ? Is the leather smooth and with small pores? Or is it a textured leather?
A smooth finished leather with small pores like box calf with an acrylic costing on it can sometimes be removed... however one wonders what lies below that someone wished covered over in the first place? These sorts of projects are risky and not often successful, I have tackled a few.... if its IMO you are best off waiting for a bag that's not painted unless the bag is so attractively priced that you are hesitant to not leave it.
If the bag is textured(togo fjord, ardennes etc) and or the bag has large pores and or the leather is unfinished (barenia, vache natural) or its a lighter color below and a darker color has been placed over it then my advice is not to attempt to remove the paint ... also if its been oil dyed it wont come off in anycase... so run away and don't muck with it....
Also a 28 cm Birkin? Actually perhaps it is a 28cm HAC which is similar to a Birkin but it has shorter handles and the bag is a bit taller .
Gosh I hope ive answered your questions?

Hi Doc.
I have a less than a week old Hermes Evelyne III PM in casaque red and taurillon clemence leather. Just this afternoon, I noticed a black color transfer on its edges and some on its body where the bag touched possibly my black cardigan. How do I remove this? 😐 Thanks!
I would ask that if you have an Hermes leather or restoration question your would post it here
Thank you.

Thank you doc! That was a very comprehensive answer!
My bad, the bag is birgin 25, not 28. And it's in Epsom leather. I really don't know what kind of dye they use, but I could see the paint cracking... So I will stay away from it and look keep my eyes even wider!
Hi docride! You've done some amazing work! I was wondering if you could take a look at a HAC 50 of mine and see if it could be recolored. It's vache natural but had a patina. I'm looking to go much darker like a dark chocolate brown.
Hi there,
Vache Naturalle usually takes up dye nicely.... Are you posting a photo?
