That little edge? sure in the correct hands it can be made to look great again. like new? probably not .... I try never to say that about any restoration.
Good luck,doc

Thank you but I would just like to confirm that you are referring to the deep edge that's missing the glaze? Sorry.

you really don't want to use colored polish on a bag as it can rub off on to hands and clothing... if you must then choose to mix it your self or buy sapphire in rouge hermes
or oxblood in Lincoln polish
good luck,doc
Thanks, docride, bunnycat, and plastic fish. I guess I'm confused, doc. I thought you recommend color polish when there are some deep gouges in the leather. :confused1:

Hi Doc,

I'm sorry to bother you but I have a recurring problem with my H bags. I live in a humid, tropical country and as you can imagine the use of air-conditioning is absolutely essential. I tend to keep my H bags in their dustbags and boxes. The boxes are positioned adjacent to the airflow from my air-conditioning. I have noticed that after a while i.e. once the bags are out of the boxes, white marks develop on all of them. Following the advise on this blog I either use my hair dryer on the spots on in bag cases send them off to the spa. Last year I sent my black birkin to the spa. It came back with all the marks gone. I then left it in front of the air-conditioning unit for a few days and then discovered huge swathes of white marks on the bag. Panic set in and i used wipes (which i now know is a terrible idea). My question is that the white marks keep re-occurring and i keep using the hair dryer. I am a little concerned that continual usage will damage the bags in the long run. I have space issues so I cannot relocate the bags to an air-con-free zone. What do you advise? Many, many thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Doc,
I'm new to this thread but have been so impressed with the vast knowledge you provide for us.
My question is this:
Is there anyway to wash or clean the stitching on a Hermes bag? I'm looking at a bag with white stitching but the stitching has turned cream or brown in color from wear.
Thank you in advance.

Dear Doc

I am considering buying this Piano. I am ok with the condition of the exterior but the interior has a case of mildew. I am not afraid of a project. I know you sell mildew killer. My question is what effect will the mildew killer have on the texture of the interior leather which I believe to be lamb. Will it make the leather stiff? Will it cause the leather to stretch and become lumpy?

Many years ago I had an unfortunate accident with a lambskin coat. I ruined the coat trying to get the dried spill off with a damp cloth. That experience makes me apprehensive about the impact of a mildew killer on the leather lining. The velvety soft interior is the reason I love vintage bags. I don't want to buy a bag thinking I can rehab it only to discover that I destroy the thing I love the most about the bag in the process.

(Dear TPFers, when you see these pics you will wonder how could anyone love that? The answer is it is not the beauty, it is the feel.)

Hi Doc! I am very new to purseforum and have been reading here on various posts by you on how to care for H bags. I have always been a fan of birkins but after having a baby i have fallen for the kelly! I got my first kelly which is a k28 vache natural. Unfortunately when i was out a couple of days ago i got rained on and my bag is spotted and im so gutted. I tried using apple leather conditioner, baby wipes and tried wetting the other parts to even it out but the marks are still there. Im so sad that now i cant look at it cuz my heart breaks! I know u are a vache natural lover can u please please tell me what i can do and what products i can use? Thank you so so much for giving advice to ladies here in the forum with your wealth of knowledge. I hope u can help me too. Thanks so so much.
P/s: the spots are at the bottom (3 spots and above the turnlock closure)

I sorry Im not sure what your white spots are... if the are mold then put moisture absorbing packs in with your bags and see if that helps? Also there are mold killer wipes you can use if this doesn't work...
All the best doc
Let me know your thoughts.. OK?

Hi there, Treating this bag before it gets exposed to water is the thing to do... putting conditioners over water marks kind of sealed the deal .. same as baby wipes..
Im sorry but you may just have to live with them... Im sorry.. if a damp wash cloth on the bag before using products doesn't help you are kinda stuck
I wish you came here first. ... Still if its unfinished leather you could try using some lexol PH wipes and see if you can fade them or blend them back some...don't scrub on them and make sure to treat the whole bag not just the spots..
Good luck ,doc

Hi there you are correct to be apprehensive about the delicate lambskin lining and yes it can and dose do weird and creepy things when its wetted... Im am more concerned with wetness in this case rather than the product hurting the skin... lambskin shrinks and then pulls away from the exterior of the bag and makes a mess..... so great caution needs to be taken... Mold and mildew on lambskin is a though project ...
the discoloration you already have those dotty spots may remain even after cleaning..
I don't think you are going to have a problem with the hand feel particularly unless it gets very, very wet and loses oils and dries to stiffness...

Gosh im not sure I was much help... Im sorry...

You can do it in the gouge but I don't reccomened it all over your bag ...you are still better off with a color restorer IMO
All the best,doc

Yes you were helpful. :flowers: The highlighted comments are new information for me and were things I need to consider. As much as I want a Rouge H Piano, I should probably pass on this one. That doesn't mean I will pass. If I go all stupid and still buy it, I will be back for guidance. Thank you for sharing your wonderful knowledge.

Dear Doc, Thanks so so much for your reply! I really should should should have came here before purchasing a vache natural. All my other bags are Clemence or Togo which are generally easier to maintain so when i got vache i didnt know why i didnt take any precautions :( i live in asia and i checked that lexol is not so widely available, i found a local store that sells the lexol ph in bottle form and not wipes. Does the bottle form work too? Also... I know i gotta live with the stains :( , but when the patina darkens will that make it less obvious? What can i use to waterproof my bag from further watermarks? Can i send it to the leather store for waterproofing? Thanks so so much for taking time off to reply, really appreciate it :)
